The location of the soul withi the body is by many in the mind but I think of the one commandment to love the Lord with all you heart all you mind body and soul and it got me thinking if it seperates the mind and soul in the commandment surely it must mean that they are separate in us. But does scripture say where it is located or does anyone have an idea where it could be?

I think the mind is part of the soul. Sometimes the Bible seems to use the word soul for the whole person or creature. Sometimes the word soul is used to refer to just the spirit (the nonphysical part).

Deuteronomy 6:5 (NKJV) says to love the LORD with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. Other verses in the New Testament are quoting this, and may add the word "mind". I think it means love God with your heart (hidden thoughts), your soul (whole person), and your might (wealth and instruments you control).

As for the physical location of the mind, maybe somewhere inside the body, probably the head?

I believe the soul is part of our immortal being that survives death and depending on our belief, faith goes back to Heaven to live for eternity with God. Or, for those people who deny Jesus and sin without repenting can be banished to Hell for eternity with Satan..

The mind is in the head yes but when we look at the commandment it clearly has it separate from the heart which in my opinion is also where the soul resides the heart is the inner most being of a person their true selves. I have been to the spiritual realm a few times and I noticed something quite iinteresting about that place. see when we are here we tend to think with our minds you can even if you pay attention feel your minds clockwork as you are trying to logically think or figure something out even before you speak your words you are wanting to say are in your mind first.

This is not the case in the spiritual realm whatever is in your heart is what you say and do as if by instinct no thinking like here because our mind is basically out of the picture. So assuming it is not merely my own experience if the soul resides in the mind like some believe then why does it act what is in the heart when we are out of this flesh?

And you know there is a phrase spoken of where one says a person thinks with their heart not their mind if there is any truth to that phrase it means one thinks with their emotions not logically this is interesting to me because emotions are also said to be in the mnd

The hebrew word for soul is nephesh, frrom naphash, he breathed. The Greek word for soul is psuchE, from psuchO, I breathe.

So, the location of the soul could be regarded as the lungs. But all our cells also breathe, taking in oxygen by a process called cellular respiration. So, the entire cellular organism of the physical body could be considered the location of the soul. The soul could be invisible life force coordinating and enlivening the bodies cells, or it could be the physical cellular organism. After all, when God breathed life into the newly formed body of Adam, he became a living soul. This could mean a living body, or a living force residing in and enlivening the otherwise dead body.

I lean toward the soul being the life that is enlivening the body and is immanent within the whole body. It may extend beyond the body's skin to include the body's aura, I guess.

Hmm, I'm inclined to hold it within the Christian's temper AND joy. Always right alongside our ready potential to suffer need. Not the need of flesh like "I Hunger" or, "I thirst", but in that place of peace, which if possible to attain the "whole world" Jesus said, one could lose their soul.

People are soul, flesh, and spirit.

Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Luk 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

The spirit goes back to God who gave it regardless of how the person behaved on earth.

Nobody retains their spirit after they die physically.

Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

When a person dies their flesh goes back to dust.

So they do not retain their flesh in the afterlife.

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Job 33:28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

Psa 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Mat 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.

The only thing a person will retain when they die physically is the soul which is eternal.

The saints will be a soul with a glorified body.

1Co 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
1Co 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

At the 5th trumpet there are souls under the altar waiting for the saints on earth to join them which then Jesus will avenge them.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

So when a saint dies physically they are with the Lord.

1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

1Co 15:35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
1Co 15:36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
1Co 15:37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
1Co 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Like grain that sprouts the body will sprout to be a spiritual body.

The dead rise first but it cannot mean their soul for they are already with Jesus.

But it means they will get their glorified body first.

And those alive will be resurrected and receive their glorified.

All the saints whether alive or dead will receive their glorified body on the same day or event but the dead will get their glorified body first.

The souls under the altar have not received their glorified body yet for they are waiting for the other saints to join them.

These souls are only a soul, no flesh, no spirit, no glorified body.

But they talk with Jesus and can think.

So the soul includes the mind.

The spirit is our connection to God for He will not have a relationship with the flesh.

Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.

Rom 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers.

Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

The spirit is our connection to God.

The flesh is our way.

And the soul makes the decision between the two.

Soul, flesh, and spirit, are 3 different components and do not overlap.

By the spirit God will have a relationship with the soul.

By the flesh He will not have a relationship with the soul.

Jesus said the saints do not marry in heaven but will be like the angels in heaven which they do not have a gender.

The only thing that separates a man and a woman is the flesh.

The soul and spirit are the same.

So when they put off the flesh and have a glorified body there is no gender.

The flesh goes back to dust.

The spirit goes back to God.

The soul is the only thing that a saint will possess of the 3.

If a saint is a soul in heaven then the soul thinks.

They will have a glorified body with the attributes of the Spirit, peace, love, and joy.

If they are not with God the emotions, heart, comes from the flesh.

If they are with God the spirit is affected and displayed by the flesh.

The flesh affects the decisions of the soul.

The Spirit by the spirit affects the decisions of the soul.

I've always believed what the Bible states..

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Dust of the ground, physical flesh,
Plus
The breath of life, life from God.
= a living soul.

Remove either of these parts and you become a dead soul.

Rev 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

Souls do die.

Psa 56:13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death:....

Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. ....

When the life of God leaves we become dead souls..

In Scripture, the “soul” isn’t a detachable part of a human being, like a component alongside mind and body. Instead, the word often refers to the whole person—their life, identity, and even the work or activity by which they live. “Soul” in the biblical sense is a way of speaking about the human being as a living, acting creature before God.

There will likely be at least as many answers as to where the soul is as there are people answering. The first task in order to answer the question would be, just what is the "soul", followed by, what is the "spirit" and biblically, what is the "mind". But since in both Greek and Hebrew, the term for "spirit" is also associated with breath and wind, that at least gives us some idea about "spirit". And likewise, the notion that the life is in the blood (see Leviticus 17:11), may or may not help.

In many ancient cultures, the head was not where the "mind" resided, emotions were believed to be from the gut, and the mind was often associated with the heart. Just what the brain did was largely unknown

Discerning the Spirit ==Soul and body -----great video ---worth the watch ----
the teaching Spirit, Soul, and Body, which is a foundational truth that is essential for understanding how much God loves you and believing what He says about you in His Word. Each person is made up of three different parts: spirit, soul, and body. Learn how these three parts relate to God and to each other. At salvation, your spirit is totally changed, but your soul and body are not yet redeemed.

I think your on the right track Blain. The Greek defines the heart as "the seat of moral and spiritual life ."

Moral as in what we practice resides there. And spiritual, the invisible part of us that we practice resides there.

The mind, I see as a kind of circuit breaker. If anyone has experienced a level of pain where you pass out, that's the circuit breaker flipping off.

The mind can not be controlled by us, but controlled either by the world , flesh, and the devil, or with the mind of Christ , being controlled by Him. And without the mind of Christ, he can't dwell in our hearts by Faith.

I think the mind is where the war for our souls is happening between God and Satan. By the daily surrendering of our life and will to Him, and living a life inspired by such surrender, we choose to give God control of our mind, protecting our hearts where our soul resides in spirit.

I see the 'soul' as the memores, knowledge, dreams, and ego of a person; and the 'sprit' is the will/intention/faith/purpose of someone.
The spirit makes the soul, and the soul persuades the spirit.

Someone who's had an evil soul, repents by becoming a good spirit.

An evil spirit voids their soul, because they fill it with corruption and vanity.

And where is the person's temper and joy located?
Curious, you view Jesus' use of soul in Mark 8:36 as strictly in the physical realm?

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

I would have a tough time with that.

IMO, when Paul spoke of man as "body, mind and soul," he was revealing how man was created in Gods image. He being a Triune God, thus man being a triune being.

As for where the soul resides, IMO it is in the heart, for that is where I believe the indwelling presence of the Holy Ghost resides.

Again, my opinion only

Unfortunately, many of us struggle with the naturalist philosophy handed down to us.

The question asked was, "Where is the soul located?" The question was not "What is the soul?" I do not think the soul is physical. But it is located in the physical body. Is your soul in your body? Or is it hovering somewhere outside your body?
