NOTE: this post is about the ten commandments and Not about the rest of the law of Moses. Also God himself defined the covenant as the ten commandments, I have posted some of the verses about this fact see the O.P.

Many today question whether the Ten Commandments still apply under the new covenant. Some believe they were temporary, pointing to writings that describe the law as a ministry that brought death and condemnation. But when we look deeper into the words of Jesus and the prophets, we find a different truth—one filled with life, purpose, and enduring glory.

The prophet Jeremiah gave a clear promise from God:
“I will make a new covenant… I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (Jeremiah 31:31–33)

This promise was not about removing the law but placing it where it was always meant to be—inside the heart. The commandments, once written on stone, would now be written in living hearts through the Spirit of God. But like any true covenant, it only works when both sides agree. God remains faithful, but His people must accept it, cherish it, and allow His Spirit to plant it deep within them.

Jesus never set the commandments aside. He honored the law and taught its fullness. When He healed on the Sabbath or defended His disciples for picking grain, He wasn’t breaking the law—He was showing its true purpose. He said, “It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” (Matthew 12:12) The Sabbath was made for man—not man for the Sabbath. Jesus reminded the people that the heart of the law is love, mercy, and goodness, not cold rituals.

He also taught that not even the smallest part of the law would pass away until all is fulfilled:
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill… till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law.” (Matthew 5:17–18) Jesus taught from the law and lived by it. He deepened its meaning. He showed that anger leads to murder, and lust is already adultery in the heart. His teachings didn’t cancel the law—they raised it to its true spiritual level.

So why does it seem today that God's law is not written in the hearts of many? The answer lies in the covenant relationship. If one party refuses the covenant, it cannot be fulfilled. The Spirit cannot write in a heart that is closed. Many call Jesus Lord but do not walk in His ways. As He said, “Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46)

The commandments remain—not as a list of rules, but as a path to life. The law of God is perfect, converting the soul. The problem was never with the law, but with the hearts of people. The old covenant failed because the people broke it, not because the law was faulty.

The new covenant is not the removal of God’s law but its renewal—inside us. The Spirit does not lead us away from the commandments but gives us the power to live them. Jesus said the Spirit will guide us into all truth. The law and the Spirit are not enemies—they work together when the heart is willing. In the end, the new covenant fulfills the old by making it alive. The law that once condemned now becomes a light. But for this to happen, the covenant must be embraced, and the heart must be softened. God's law in the heart is a sign of His people. It is how we love Him and love our neighbor.

The commandments are not heavy when written in love. They are eternal because they reflect the character of God Himself. They are still standing, still Holy, and still waiting for hearts that will receive them—not in stone, but in spirit and truth.

Many are not in a covenant with God and don't even realize it because they refuse to subject themselves to the law of God Rom8:7-8. God placed His laws in the heart and mind of the New Covenant believers, He won't force them though, we have to allow God to be our Master and serve Him Rom6:16KJV Isa56:6. We enter this covenant by faith Heb4:2 faith establishes the law not voids it Rom3:31 why Jesus said even our worship to Him is in vain when we lay aside the commandment of God quoting directly from the Ten that our heart is far from Him, because we rejected His law in our hearts Mat15:3-14 Mark7:7-13. We need to start listening to Jesus who taught not to break or teach others to break the least of these commandments quoting directly from the Ten Commandments Mat5:19-30 the law He came to magnify in our hearts Isa42:21 right where sin begins, relating lust with the commandment to not commit adultery, anger with the commandment to not commit murder and in breaking the least of these commandments we will be subject to sin and judgement- wrong path! We need to enter God's covenant of faith, have our Fathers laws written in our hearts and minds and be His servant Isa56:6 Rev7:3 because this is the covenant where He remembers are sins no more. Heb8:10-12

All this Attacking of SDAs and E White.?

Is that because you don't want to discuss the bible ?
This is meant to be a Bible discussion.

Let's discuss the 10 commandments and the reasons we should or shouldn't obey them today.

The Bible does present the Ten Commandments as the covenant itself. In Exodus 34:28, it is written:

"So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments."

"So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone
(Deuteronomy 4:13, NKJV)

This clearly states that the Ten Commandments are the covenant. When we look at Jeremiah 31:31-33, we see God speaking of a new covenant, but notice what He says:

"Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

This passage does not say the law itself would change. Instead, it tells us that the ten commandments that are the covenant instead of being written on stone tablets, would be written in our hearts and minds. That means the law remains the same, but its place changes, from external tablets to internal conviction. This is why we see in the Gospels of John, Matthew, Luke and Mark, Jesus teaching the commandments and magnifying them.

Now, let's connect this with the Ark of the Covenant. In Deuteronomy 10:1-5, God commanded Moses to place the two tablets of the Ten Commandments inside the Ark:

"At that time the Lord said to me, ‘Hew for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me on the mountain, and make yourself an ark of wood... Then I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are, just as the Lord commanded me.’"

This shows the special place of the Ten Commandments, inside the Ark, symbolizing their central role in the covenant. But what about the rest of the law? In Deuteronomy 31:24-26, Moses wrote the book of the law and placed it beside the Ark:

"So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished, that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying: ‘Take this Book of the Law, and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there as a witness against you.’”

This distinction is important. The Ten Commandments being described clearly as the Covenant were placed inside the Ark of the Covenant, showing their eternal, unchanging nature as the foundation of the covenant. The rest of the law was placed beside the Ark, acting as a witness.

Now, when Jeremiah speaks of the law being written in our hearts, he is speaking of the same law, the Ten Commandments. The "new" part of the covenant is not that the law changes but that God Himself ensures it is within us, guiding us from within rather than being an external set of rules. This aligns perfectly with how Jesus upheld and fulfilled the law, always pointing back to love for God and neighbor as the foundation of obedience (Matthew 22:36-40).

So, the New Covenant is not about replacing the Ten Commandments but about making them part of who we are.

Blessings
I agree with everything you said except for your conclusion. Jeremiah is not talking about us, he is talking about the houses of Judah and Israel.

What is the new covenant?
it is still the the ten commandments that Jesus asked us to keep
Jesus never asked the Gentile believers to keep the Ten Commandments. When Jesus commands us to keep HIS commandments, he isn't talking about the Ten Commandments; he is talking about his teaching.

Fake news. It is because we harken to Jesus through the word and the Holy Spirit that we know SDA is a false representation of the gospel.

In fact, it is not gospel at all. According to scripture, God does not favor one day over another to worship Him nor does He consider keeping Jewish rituals and feasts to be in keeping with the salvation He offers through Christ. The Laws of Moses, including the Sabbath, were never commanded to anyone except the Jewish nation of Israel. Exodus 16:23-30; Exodus 20:2-11; Deuteronomy 5:1-21; Exodus 31:12-17; Leviticus 19:1, 30 and so on.

Colossians 2:16 — “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.”

Nearly all scholars agree that Paul here refers to yearly feasts, monthly rituals and weekly Sabbath worship. SDA has incorporated Saturday worship. They believe that Sunday worship is the mark of the beast. That, is a distinction made popular by Ellen White, the founder and expert in all things not in agreement with the actual Bible.

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. Rom. 5:9

We are justified by the blood of Jesus when we trust in Him and believe in His death and resurrection on our behalf.

This thread is full of the error of commandment obedience for salvation which is not in the New Testament. Rather than the revelation Jesus disciples had concerning salvation, the death and resurrection, the shed blood, the final sacrifice, Jesus is the final High Priest, we are introduced to non biblical concepts that are actually not new and are considered heretical teaching.

No one can accept Jesus on our behalf. We each must come to Him, ask forgiveness for our sins and believe that He is indeed the risen Son of God and the Savior God intends for us to accept.

Scripture has been consistently denied and misused in this thread to try and convince people that the commandments are the covenant and any manner of twisting, taking verses out of context and constant use of the Old Testament rather than the Good News of the New Testament, has been employed in the pursuit of that unbiblical doctrine.

Jesus never asked the Gentile believers to keep the Ten Commandments. When Jesus commands us to keep HIS commandments, he isn't talking about the Ten Commandments; he is talking about his teaching.
Jesus taught on the Ten Commandments Mat15:3-14 Mark7:7-13 Mat5:17-30 Mat19:17-19 that is His teachings.

Jesus taught on the Ten Commandments Mat15:3-14 Mark7:7-13 Mat5:17-30 Mat19:17-19 that is His teachings.

Everyone should be familiar with the Old Testament. I know I am. However I am equally at home in the New Testament.

Pay attention. Jesus never told anyone to follow Old Testament law.

If Sunday is the mark of the beast then do you believe it is important to tell people. ??

LOL! Apparently it is very important to the SDA folk but it is not true. So I don't go around with that 'good news'. I cannot help what people believe. The Bible is the word of God and Jesus is the word incarnate.

I have not found SDA doctrine in the Bible.

So believe you and not Jesus our LORD and Savior, thank you but no thanks.

Jesus taught this quoting OLD TESTAMENT

Mat 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

Which includes these Words directly spoken by God. Don't let anyone cheat us by teachings of man and not of Christ Col2:8

Mark 2:27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

Original Word: ἄνθρωπος
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: anthrópos
Pronunciation: AN-thro-pos
Phonetic Spelling: (anth'-ro-pos)
KJV: certain, man
NASB: man, men, people, man's, human, mankind
Word Origin: [from G435 (ἀνήρ - man) and ops "the countenance" (from G3700 (ὀπτάνομαι - appearing))

So unless one is not human according to Jesus who is God, the Sabbath was made for us.

No wonder why Jesus invited everyone to serve the LORD and join ourselves to Him

Isa 56:1 Thus saith the LORD
Isa 56:6 “Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant—

He won't force us though, but I wouldn't want to miss out.

Isa66:23 And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

What is sin?
If transgression of the law is sin, (which I believe). Then the loving thing to do for your neighbour is to tell them.

You can tell people they are saved in sin and ignore the sins that you see people doing. Or you can lovingly tell them to repent for the hour of His judgment is near.

I would much prefer my neighbour to tell the truth. Rather then tell me I'm saved in sin and don't need to repent..

Believing your saved does not necessarily mean you are.

Right. Well, you are almost on to the truth here. The truth is we cannot keep the law in the perfection demanded by God.

So then, is the covenant some kind of hit and miss proposition? That would make God as wishy washy as the rest of us.

What does 'believing you are saved does not necessairly mean you are', even mean? Do you not realize that applies as easily to you and everyone else who believes?

Have you missed the teaching in scripture that identifies the absolute knowledge that we have in Christ to know and understand that we ARE saved? I don't think the great cloud of witnesses we read about in scripture are hanging on every word of Ellen White so you may not know about that.

I don't think you understand how ridiculous it is to say something about saying it does not mean you are saved even if you say you are.

THE VERY SAME THING APPLIES TO YOU AND EVERYONE IF THAT IS YOUR TAKE ON IT. It certainly is not my understanding, but then again I don't follow Ellen White.

So believe you and not Jesus our LORD and Savior, thank you but no thanks.

Where did I say believe me? I say and will always say, believe scripture and what we are taught by it.

Anyone can see why we should not trust in what you write since even now you twist my words. Ellen White is not my judge. I am sorry she appears to be yours.

Try responding to the scriptures that clearly outline Christ as our Savior and God's plan for salvation.

Anything else, is not the gospel.

So what Jesus taught is not the gospel? The quotes were not EGW, were not me, but of God Himself and who Jesus told us the Words we are to live by. The issue is not that God was not clear, the issue is the same issue as before Heb4:2,6,11 Heb3:7-19

Jesus taught on the Ten Commandments Mat15:3-14 Mark7:7-13 Mat5:17-30 Mat19:17-19 that is His teachings.
We understand Jesus' teaching in light of the Jewish context in which he spoke. He is a Jewish man speaking to a Jewish audience. about his role in God's plan for salvation.

Paul introduced the Gentiles to grace and Salvation in Jesus Christ and in his arguments, he argued that Gentiles did not need to keep Moses, which includes the Ten Commandments. We are justified by grace through faith apart from the law.

no, show me, too many messages. About the sabbath, Remember exodus 16:2829! I ask the same question how long before you do God's will?
No, own up to your congregational practices with your sabbath. Else hypocrites sabbath-breakers have no say about any sabbath, other than preaching a false one.
