When I pray for those I disagree with or those that don't see like me is mostly when I feel anothers politics is totally different then mine. I pray for those that may think different usually if they are close to me like co workers. But I don't only pray I try to find common ground ANd I attempt to cultivate understanding.

Lately I have been doing a lot of silent prayers. Just sitting in silence for about fifteen minutes. I feel my being and feel gods being. I stew in gods vastness and depth because I don't know what to pray. God knows better what to pray always so why try to pray(?) I feel mostly.
(cool thread)

I was looking for threads on Britney Spears, because I'd recently read her memoir.
She's been through a lot.
And while I hadn't been led to pray for her personally (recently) I do believe God is working in her life. I recall when she went through a bad time, and the churches were like 'she's a Christian girl, let's pray for her' rather than condemn her for acting out, rebelling or corrupting America's youth or whatever was the charge against her.

When I read about famous people, in their memoirs or autobios or biographies, I often read to see what their spiritual life is like. How do they cope with the fame, or the notoriety? Did they chase it or was it thrust upon them? Did they have a choice?

Britney was placed under a conservatorship for 13 years. In that time she continued working, but she was not free. She could not make her own choices, she was under tight control by her father. I can't imagine how that must have been, she was physically kept alive, but she had lost the light in her eyes. I understand she could be bad, and self destructive, and maybe under the influence and easily taken advantage, but a lot of life is learning to adult. She had the life of a child star. It's completely upside down.

She could entertain others in Las Vegas (sin city) but she wasn't 'allowed' to 'sin' herself. When she decided she had enough and would stop working (and everyone else earning HER money) she just walked off the job and didn't say a thing. She was locked up in a mental hospital the next day.

I'm not saying I don't like Britney or disagreed with her - we've never met! I am not her biggest fan. It's just we are near the same age (maybe a year difference) we are both female, we both have family issues and so I feel I have some things in common with her, even though she's a superstar and I'm not. When she cried on the tv while being questioned or rather interrogated over her relationships and behaviour I was horrified that people would be so nasty to her and not leave her alone, they were always ragging on her. She's human!

She's a praying woman anyway so what got her through was her faith, if not the faith of her fandom, that looked after her, hoped for her and wanted the best for her.

I suppose I ought to pray for all those on my ignore list, though some have been banned. I will go through it now.

Huh, I have way too many on my ignore list, and some of them I don't really dislike, but they made it clear they disliked me. But then I probably have disagreed with them at some point, and they didn't like that. Its very hard to be around someone you disagree with all the time, and there are plenty of other people who I do agree with, so I can't please everyone, and they can't always please me either.

So maybe it's a good thing? What should I pray, for me to agree with everyone, even those who dislike me. Not really sure as most of them I can't remember why and if I went back and unignored them, I can never be sure if I would keep offending them or if they think I am offensive.

I always give people the benefit of the doubt though, especially if they are new, and maybe just finding their feet, but I don't know any way which I can be less offensive without being a total doormat. And what can God do about it anyway? It's not that they would care if I ignored them because I never really tell them if they are being ignored. I'd only do that if someone was really ticking me off.

Hi Everyone!

When was the last time you prayed for someone you don't like, don't agree with, or don't even know?

After spending some time reading the threads here, I was thinking about the fact that one of our biggest challenges as Christians is to pray for others even when we have negative feelings about the person or situation involved. This is one of my toughest personal faults--I often just get mad and forget to try to empathize with someone I disagree with and pray for them.

My biggest influence in this area, however, was a beautiful mentor I had several years ago who was like a mom, aunt, and big sister rolled into one. I was having dinner at her house one night and for some reason, we started talking about current pop stars. To my surprise, my mentor said, very passionately, "Oh, I know Britney Spears is in the news all the time right now for all the wrong reasons, but my heart just cries out for her and when I see her or hear her name, I pray for her..."

This was a major catalyst that really changed the game for me, and now I too pray for celebrities and famous people regularly, especially those who have lost a parent (such as Madonna, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and Paris Jackson.) In a very tiny way, I can relate just a little bit to what famous people might feel.

I grew up in a relatively small area in which a certain close relative of mine was well-known (for positive reasons, thankfully) and I was ALWAYS associated with that person. At church groups, people didn't acknowledge me, but rather, my association with this person. They'd ask a question about "me", and then say, "Oh, I know about you, you're related to so-and-so..." In fact, I was once shopping at a flea market IN ANOTHER STATE and someone came up to me and said, "Aren't you so-and-so's (relative)?" ARGH!!!! I HATED it and to this day, I always choose to go to a different church that is not associated with any of my family members in anyway. Why? Because I want my OWN identity, and I want people to get to know ME for who I am, not who they put me together with or for what they assume without knowing a thing about the situation. I am NOTHING like the person I am always associated with (which might be for the worse, because this person, as I said, is known for very positive things!) But that's ok. What's important is that I can only be me, and not someone else.

At the same time, I sometimes feel as if my family is the only shelter I have from all the stupidity, so I can't imagine what it must be like for people to lose their foundations so early in life, and it cuts me to the heart--not just for celebrities, of course, but for anyone who has lost someone close, because money, even if they have it, CANNNOT replace people. I don't know of anyone in this world who wouldn't give all they have to have a beloved person they have lost back with them, even for just one day.

I don't do so well in other situations, however. The person who vehemently disagrees with something I'm passionate about? ("Adoption? Why would anyone do that if they can have kids? I could never love a child who wasn't 'my own.'") The drunk driver who just swerved across traffic and endangered all the rest of us on the road? The person at church who just judged my faith and said I was less of a Christian, or not even really saved? Or the person who made a racial slur against me, my friends, or my friend's kids who are mixed? (This is one of my biggest pet peeves, EVER. DO NOT make a racial slur at someone, most especially a child, in front of me or ask them, "What are you?", because I've had plenty of people ask me that in my lifetime. It truly brings out the worst in me.)

Yup, I have MUCH harder time when it gets personal.

I am also guilty of having my "prayers" come out as backhanded curses "in disguise" (as if I could fool God, right?) My most frequent example in this category are people who in my area who have no problems passing multiple vehicles in a row, even with oncoming traffic. My "prayers" for them always come out as something like, "Lord, please bless that person with better time management skills so they don't have to rush and endanger the lives of everyone else!"

But I've been asking God for help and trying...

And so the last time I prayed for someone I didn't like was this morning. I hope God will continue to give me to grace to keep doing so on a regular basis.

What about the rest of you?
at least once a week i pray for someone i don't like. it's a challenge sometimes. quite often i pray for people i don't know. i'll pick a local area & pray for all the unsaved folks. every time a hear a siren i pray for whosoever in trouble. i'll pray for people i hear on the news or see on tv who need help. 3 days ago, i was talking to a friend about so many people from the 70's to 90's in this area that were major partiers. they all have cancer, heart trouble, some other health issue or some are dead.

hmm I have to ask people 'are you mad at me?' if they stop contacting me or deliberately ignoring me, cos it might not be they are just busy and don't care. Or something.

Usually my prayers are more like..help me drive safely so don't crash into anyone and get to my destination. I am not a rage-filled driver though and it takes a lot to make me mad or honk my horn.

I don't think I pray for people who haven't asked for my prayers. It's not being mean, it's just I don't really have time to dwell on things like that. That would make me all negative. I figure God knows and He's on to it. My prayers are not louder than anyone else's.

I would just try and talk to them to find out what their problem is I am not understanding, or wish them well if they not willing to talk about it. I'd just ask God to bless them or something like that if I don't really know them, or maybe pay extra attention to them cos they need help I cannot give.

So glad that phase of my life is long over Sister, i sometimes found it hard to quell mean thoughts when someone was particularly obnoxious, malicious etc. Realising loadsa stuff just ain't worth wasting time and energy on, is one of the gifts old age brings us. I'm much more likely to pity and pray for someone who tries to upset me now, because they don't know the LORD and clearly could do with his help.

Wondering if there will be a forum meetup tomorrow, i'll check in tomorrow to see if you've replied to this, or posted a thread about it. Having a late bath, it's not far off Dreamer and my snuggle and huggle time so i won't wallow for too long. God's blessings and hugs for now 🤗

Forgiveness!
Pray you can forgive someone. Not for the other to change, but your heart to be changed so they can be forgiven, if not by you, then by God. I mean if someone has offended you, or hurt you maybe not intentionally, maybe they didn't really know what they had done wrong.

Yes , that's the only reason I ' ignore ' someone , not because I dislike or disagree with them , I ignore them because I get the impression that they don't like me .

I have plenty of people who dislike me on this forum and they aren't afraid of telling everyone so. Apparently according to them I know nothing of what I write about, or read the Bible or whatever.

I could retaliate back, but whenever I do that, God is like 'turn the other cheek' so I just get slapped in the face, and it hurts. So it's really self preservation.

But I have to learn to forgive them, cos If they think I am ignorant (of course, nobody knows EVERYTHING) then they are too, and they probably have no idea what they are talking about, and are just answering with stuff off the top of their head.

blah blah blah blah blah...oh Lanolin, they say, doesn't learn anything. Well I went to school on Wednesday, and learned about doubting Thomas, who was actually pretty smart because he asked for evidence of what others were saying about Jesus from the man Himself.

Apparently, if people ask ME about Jesus, I will make something up. ???

This is a really good thread on I'm glad that someone brought this up! Just a little while ago today I was praying about people I don't know! Some people I know about and some people I just have a vague idea of them! I was praying for our president who I do not agree with at all except for the things he said about becoming a Christian and him having people pray after a speech at least I saw him do that once! And he shared part of a letter that explained how to become a Christian and that blew me away! I still don't agree with a lot of his decisions but I was praying that God would help him make the decisions that God wanted him to make for our country for Iran and anyone else in our world that he talks to! I also prayed for all the Christians in Iran that's God would help send them anything they needed like food and water and help like doctors and things like that! I prayed for their leaders the regime that somehow they could become Christians that either their regime is changed to good people or they are changed themselves by becoming Christians! I also prayed about the Christians who are being tortured and killed and imprisoned that they would stay strong that God will be with them during all of those tribulations that they are going through! I prayed for the Christians in Nigeria that are being wiped out like whole Villages are being killed off that are Christians! Some of them especially women have been kidnapped by the terrorists and kept for years raped and had children with them and finally some were able to get free! Some of them have totally lost their minds because of all they've gone through! They have lost mothers sons daughters husbands parents and anyone that they know has has been killed or tortured or just gone through horrific things there! So please pray for these people these are the people that it talks about in the Bible that Christians will be persecuted for me! Me being Jesus and God! I love all these people because they are Christians and they are human beings that need help! I even prayed for God to give them visions and dreams those terrorists so that they will know God and Jesus somehow! I prayed for the people that have been having dreams and visions and whoever hasn't been able to find Christians to explain it that God would send them Christians to explain what is going on! I know that it is happening all around the world but mostly in Iran that they're having dreams and visions of Jesus and lots of them are the same! Not all of them but there's a good amount that have the same dreams or visions! And it's being documented all over the world as well! Those are mainly the people that I prayed for today that's I don't know or just have a vague knowledge of! I don't know president Trump but I know of him and I know enough about you for him not to be somebody I don't know completely! So I hope that others will also pray for people we don't know that need God's help! Thank you for bringing up this thread it is very beneficial! To God be the glory forever and ever!

I never can get the thoughts out of my head and say them the way I want them to come out. I'm terrible at praying, so I don't usually pray out loud. This may sound like a stupid post and might come across the wrong way, but since God always knows our thoughts I always felt that Him knowing what I thought was always enough. Because I don't know how to bring my problems to Him out loud.

Ceph,
I totally understand, I used to feel that way too until I read more of the Bible and how Jesus prayed! He prayed to God like he was just talking to him not when he was praying during or after a sermon but when he was alone with God! That is what I do I just talk to God, it is out loud but if you don't feel comfortable talking out loud you can pray in your head! I used to do that also before I became comfortable with praying out loud when I'm by myself! If it helps you could write down things that you would like to pray about that you're concerned about people you want to pray about, then you have some framework to go by to be able to pray for those specific things! I hope this helps! May God have the glory!

Remember UCA4J who kept saying "ching chong" and various other racist remarks at you a few years ago ? .

Many people chased him around trying to correct him but i didn't, i figured something would eventually happen to him since he was so intent on victory twerking around like it wouldn't but it did.

Some people are put here to lose so i just watch already knowing. As for prayer i don't pray, actually i quit years ago because i found it to be pointless. I would rather walk after something i believe in rather than play back and forth games with hope while wishing for changes.

Ah yes, I actually thought of that not too long ago. We've had some interesting ones here over the years, that's for sure.

If I remember right, he was an Aussie trying to meet some French girl he'd totally fallen for on another forum and was hoping he'd find her here. She apparently didn't leave him any contact info, but he was convinced he would eventually run into her again and that she liked him back.

As for the "Ching Chong" remarks... At that time there was another CC member who was a regular and also Asian, and we were making jokes that "Ching Chong" is usually seen as the "proper" racist remark against the Chinese... and I am not Chinese. I mean, if someone's going to be racist, they could at least take the time to do so properly.

And I'm certainly not saying anyone should ever say this to anyone Chinese; I'm just saying, I might take racist comments more seriously if the person could demonstrate that they are at least an educated racist.

It made me feel like I was back in Lutheran grade school again (for everyone who believes Christian schools will shield your kids from everything, no, they won't.)

As I've gotten older, I take things like that a lot less personally than I used to. Sometimes it's fascinating to wonder how they got to be that way -- maybe someone Asian hurt him or someone he loved -- I don't know. It's all in God's hands, and I know He'll sort it out, though it certainly doesn't feel very good being on the receiving end at the time.

But maybe God has blessed the ol' chap and he's found his French girl and is living happily ever after. 🙏🏼

I can sympathize with your discouragement regarding prayer.

Over the past few years, I've seen countless prayers answered in the least desirable ways concerning cancer.

Answers such as "No, you're not going to get that miraculous healing, even though 10 people at church have all told you about the miraculous healings THEY had where even the doctors were stumped."

"No, this person isn't going to be healed in this lifetime, but is coming home to me, even though they're leaving behind a full family of children, and a business their spouse will now have to learn to run alone."

"No, this person's tumor isn't going to miraculously disappear, and is going to have to have that body part removed..."

Believe me, I understand the... gamut of emotions I best not go into here.

But I keep praying anyway...

Because in the end, it's all I know to do.

May God bless you @G00WZ -- it's always good to see you.

God is not a genie, I don't think praying works that way. If you pray hard enough it will happen.

Praying is more like...spending time with God. Chatting with him and acknowledging Him, rather than constant re-petitions (although the widow kept knocking on the door)
It's not about twisting someone else's arm, to make them change. Or telling God , I don't like this person! But I am gonna be good and ask you to bless him/her even when I don't like him/her and he's/She's making me cry!

Anyway...my prayer life is not meant for everyone else to see and hear anyway.
