An highly inaccurate post.

William Miller was the prophet that stated Jesus would return in October 1844.

William Miller was not actually giving a prophecy but only his analysis of Daniel and the 2,300 days.

Ellen White believed that the analysis of the 2,300 day analysis in Daniel was correct.

Ellen White was evicted from the Methodist church for being a Millerite in 1843.

That was not Ellen's prophecy but a different analysis of the text in Daniel that William Miller gave.

William Miller admitted he was wrong and was never seen again.

All Ellen White did was modify that analysis of the prophecy in Daniel, that William Miller got wrong.

As for the ten commandments they were already insitu in the Reformation, then in the Methodist church.

Ellen White was raised as a child under the law.

So it's not a big step to go from under the law to a literal reading of the fourth commandment.

Why is Ellen White called a prophet?
Ellen G White claimed that in a vision, she saw that, and I quote, "I saw that the holy Sabbath is, and will be, the separating wall between the true Israel of God and unbelievers; and that the Sabbath is the great question to unite the hearts of God's dear, waiting saints." (Ellen G. White, Early Writings, p. 33).

"The pope has changed the day of rest from the seventh to the first day. (Not true, by the way). He has thought to change the very commandment that was given to cause man to remember his Creator. He has thought to change the greatest commandment in the Decalogue and thus make himself equal with God, or even exalt himself above God (Ellen G. White, Early Writings, p. 65).

Jesus begs to differ. He said that the greatest commandment is the first, not the fourth, and the second commandment is like the first. He also said that all the Law and prophets hang on the first and second commandment. Lord Jesus said nothing about the sabbath.

Ellen G White and her followers dismiss vast numbers of Christian who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the gospel. She derides mighty men of God as sabbath breakers.

I could go one, but to be honest, I find EG White's writings to be detestable and insulting to believers. She and her cult introduce nothing of value to the church. They sow division and confusion. Reject them.

Perhaps you can tell me in the Bible where Satan is made the scapegoat for the sins of mankind.

And how about this from the Great Controversy

"By His death He began that work which after His resurrection He ascended to complete in heaven (Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 489). (Italics mine)

"Therefore the announcement that the temple of God was opened in heaven and the ark of His testament was seen points to the opening of the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844 as Christ entered there to perform the closing work of the atonement (Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 433).

The book of Hebrews contradicts Ellen G White.

Hebrews 10:11-14
"Day after day every priest stands to minister and to offer again and again the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time, He waits for His enemies to be made a footstool for His feet, because by a single offering He has made perfect for all time those who are being sanctified. (Italics mine)

Hebrews 10:19-22 "Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Placed by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way opened for us through the curtain of His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and our bodies washed with pure water."

Do you believe the Bible or EG White?
in Leviticus 16 distinguishes between the two goats in the Day of Atonement service.

The first goat, “for the LORD,” represents Christ and His sacrificial death for sin:
Leviticus 16:9 – “the goat on which the lot fell for the LORD shall be offered as a sin offering.”

The second goat, “for Azazel” (the scapegoat), is not offered as a sacrifice but is sent away alive:
Leviticus 16:10 – “the goat… for Azazel shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make atonement upon it, and to let it go as the scapegoat into the wilderness.”

After the atonement is completed with the first goat, the sins of the people are placed on the scapegoat:
Leviticus 16:20–21 – “When he has made an end of atoning… Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities… putting them upon the head of the goat.”

The goat then bears those sins away into an uninhabited land:
Leviticus 16:22 – “the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited.”

The scapegoat is not part of the sacrificial atonement, but instead represents the final removal of sin and responsibility after atonement is finished. They connect this with the fate of Satan, who is ultimately held accountable and removed:

Revelation 20:1–3 – “And he laid hold on the dragon… which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him… and cast him into the bottomless pit.”

In this framework, Christ provides the atonement for sin, while Satan, as the originator of sin, bears final responsibility and is removed, paralleling the scapegoat sent into the wilderness.

Someone changed the holy day of the LORD, the Sabbath Isa58:13 to the first day and it wasn't God.

The Roman Catholic church takes credit for it from their own words- they said this change from Sabbath to Sunday is a mark of their authority over God's -just as it was predicted in Scripture. Dan7:25
It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.
—Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.
Question: Which is the Sabbath day?
Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.
—Rev. Peter Geiermann C.SS.R., The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50
Deny the authority of the Church and you have no adequate or reasonable explanation or justification for the substitution of Sunday for Saturday in the Third - Protestant Fourth - Commandment of God... The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.'
—Catholic Record, September 1, 1923.
Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act. And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters.
—C. F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons, in answer to a letter regarding the change of the Sabbath, November 11, 1895.

Jesus begs to differ. He said that the greatest commandment is the first, not the fourth, and the second commandment is like the first. He also said that all the Law and prophets hang on the first and second commandment. Lord Jesus said nothing about the sabbath.

Not true all 4 of the commandments are included in the greatest commandments on how to love and and worship God, written by God Himself Exo31:18 the 4th commandment is the one commandment which tells us which God we are to apply the first three commandments to, the God of Creation Exo20:11 the only God we are told to worship Rev14:7. Garbage. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The sacrifice of Jesus by His shed blood and death on the cross is enough.

"......and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross." Colossians 1:20

Tell me one place in the NT where a goat is mentioned as carrying the sin of mankind. Satan has been punished for his own sin, not for the sin of mankind. He will end up in the lake of fire eventually. But not as a scapegoat.

You do not seem to be reading what was stated. No one said Jesus is not the Lamb who takes away sin why He represents the goat who gave its life and not the one who escaped without the shedding of blood, because without blood there is no remissions for sin. Heb9:22 why Christ cannot represent the scape goat because He gave up His life for the sins of the world. If He could have just removed the law that shows us our sins He would have done that, but the law of God cannot fail and it won't, it stands forever because it is perfect written by our perfect Savior Psa19:7 Exo31:18 its the other spirit who keeps teaching the world we can disobey God and live, sadly its the same deception that worked with our first parents where that path is not the one that leads back to Christ Heb10:26-30 but being faithful to Him does Rev14:12 Rev22:14KJV even through the world is against it Rev12:17

You contradict what Jesus said about the greatest commandment. Either He was speaking as God, in which case you are casting doubt on the Word of God, or you are saying that He was a man giving his own interpretation.

You contradict what Jesus said about the greatest commandment. Either He was speaking as God, in which case you are casting doubt on the Word of God, or you are saying that He was a man giving his own interpretation.
Jesus never quoted only 1 commandment as the greatest commandments.

Love never went undefined by God, its not a feeling, its a commitment to God.

Exo 20:6 “but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments” — Exodus 20:6 (NKJV)
“Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” — Revelation 14:12 (NKJV)

God directly tells us how to love Him- He personally wrote it out for us. The big question is shall we believe Him at His word?

Mat 22:27 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Which Jesus was quoting OT Deut6:5 Lev 19:18

So they are grounded in OT principles, not new ones.

When it comes to loving someone, is it based on what we feel on how we are to love someone or should it be based on what that person tells us how to love them. In the case of God, He only taught loving Him with the accordance of keeping His commandments. So how can we love God with all our heart, soul and mind but not keep His commandments. The answer is plainly you can't. To separate the greatest commandments to love God with our all, from the commandments where God tells us how to love Him, is sadly a very deceitful doctrine.

The first time God introduces this principle of how we are to love Him is right in the Testimony of God - written by God, spoken by God. God literally tells us how to love Him so its impossible to separate the greatest commandments from the commandments on how God tells us to love Him.

Exo 20:6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

If we look at the first time loving God with all our heart, mind and soul was stated, what was happening when this was stated.

The Ten Commandments right where love to God was written down by God Himself was repeated- 40 years after God have them His commandments both spoken by God and written by God.

After they were repeated this was stated...

Deut 6:1 “Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and [a]be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

4 “Hear, O Israel: [b]The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Keep God's commands in your heart
Teach them to your children
Talk about them daily
Let His Word guide your life constantly

And it includes the 4th commandment, because the greatest commandments to love God with all their heart, mind and soul was the condition of the Israelites receiving their inheritance:

Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and [a]be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

But what happened, did they love God with all their heart, mind and soul and received their inheritance?

Sadly many did not because....

Eze 20:15 So I also raised My hand in an oath to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, ‘flowing with milk and honey,’ the glory of all lands, 16 because they despised My judgments and did not walk in My statutes, but profaned My Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.

The Sabbath is part of the greatest commandments to love God with all our heart, mind and soul. Profaning the Sabbath God relates to breaking another commandment- idol worship because we are replacing the words of God with another voice.

The devil is trying to take away our inheritance as well that we have not yet entered Rev22:14KJV don't be cheated by traditions of man and principles of the world over words that proceed from the mouth of God both spoken and written Jesus said to live by Mat4:4

You dodged the issue. Ellen G White claimed that the Sabbath was the greatest commandment. Lord Jesus said that the first commandment was the greatest and the second like it. Either Lord Jesus or Ellen G White were correct. They cannot both be right.

It's very simple. Either EGW was deceived or Lord Jesus was making a false statement. According to EGW, this is the most important issue there is. You can't just say let God sort it out. Well, you can, but that's running away from the issue.

The record of false 'prophecies' from EG White is both extensive and alarming, considering the adherents who still follow her, while ignoring the record of error and insisting that she was both accurate and a true 'prophet'.

Adventists, having experienced the false prophecy of William Miller who stated Jesus would return Oct. 22, 1844, (aka The Great Disappointment) retroactively corrected the error of Miller by stating that Miller was over eager in his words and what actually took
place 10/22/1844, was the 'start' of Jesus final 'work', meaning the cleansing in the heavenly sanctuary which would actually lead up to
the 2nd coming.

The backlash after the failed expectations of so many, resulted in angry critcism and even, in some cases, violence from the public. It seems
that many followers had given up their possessions in consideration of the prophecied date of Jesus return and now they were left empty handed both spiritually and physically.

The Millerites had to deal with their own shattered expectations, as well as considerable criticism and even violence from the public. Many followers had given up their possessions in expectation of Christ's return. A Millerite church was burned in NY and 2 others were vandalized
while a mob in Illinois attacked the Millerite congregation with clubs and knive while yet another group, in Toronto, Canada, was tarred and feathered. In some other cases in Canada, Millerites were shot at.

Many Milleries gave up their beliefs but, during this time, as stated above, excues were made, corrections given and several new sects sprang up, apparently unwilling to admit error or the possibility they had been falling both a false teacher and a false prophet in the person of William Miller.

Due to the active and insistent amount of posts made in another thread here regarding the ongoing claims of White's adherents or SDA participants, along with the denials of scripture that indicate error or the skipping over of questions and so on by the same adherents, it seems it would be more helpful to discuss the problems of White's teachings in a different atmosphere where proof of the false prophecies and what scripture actually states, could be discussed. No prejudice intended, but open discussion is needed which cannot be had if certain people take scripture out of context to change the meaning or, just ignore scripture altogether.

Here is one false prophecy of White:

White contends the Sabbath is still in effect and Sunday is not honored by God as day to honor Him

What scripture actually says:

The New Testament clearly shows Christians worshiping together on Sunday, not Saturday and Romans 14 teaches that the individual must be convinced in their own mind of the day they choose to observe.
It's a cult, perversion of sound Christian doctrine. The verse "lack of knowledge destroys my people" comes to my mind when I see how people can follow that branch of Christian 'teachings'.

Absolutely and one of the 4 major cults. I like your handle 'BetterCallPsalms'. Gave me a chuckle. :)

"We believe the revelation and inspiration of both the Bible and Ellen White's writings to be of equal quality. The superintendence of the Holy Spirit was just as careful and thorough in one case as in the other." - MINISTRY, the international journal of the Seventh-day Adventist Ministerial Association ©1981, page 8.

Caveat emptor.

And they will deny it just the same. SB, is the specialist on that type of thing. Have you come across the fact that die hard adventists believe those who worship on Sunday (go to church cause every day is worship day) are exhibiting the mark of the beast?

And you were believing you loved God and His Son and were worshiping in a sanctuary but nope. You are the mark of the beast in the flesh.

I was gob smacked the first time I came across that. This cult is satanic.

Revelation 22:18
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Let me explain how Adventist pioneer writers understood Revelation 22:18 in relation to continuing prophetic gifts and the end-time Elijah prophetic message, of Malachi 4: 5-6

The Core Theological Distinction

Adventist pioneers made a crucial distinction between:
  1. Adding to the canonical Scripture (forbidden by Revelation 22:18-19)
  2. Continuing prophetic gifts that illuminate existing Scripture (permitted by Joel 2:28-29)
Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV):
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
Malachi 4:5-6 (KJV):
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."
Joel 2:28-29 (KJV):
"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit."

How Adventist Pioneers Interpreted This

Ellen White, whom Adventist pioneers recognized as having the "spirit of prophecy," consistently taught that her writings were not to be added to the biblical canon:
"The Bible is the rule of faith and practice... My writings are not to take the place of the Bible." (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 661)
She explained Revelation 22:18-19 this way:
"The warning against adding to or taking from the word of God applies to those who would seek to alter the sacred canon of Scripture... The Spirit of Prophecy is given to lead souls to the Bible, not to supersede it." (The Great Controversy, p. 595)

James White's Teaching

James White, Ellen White's husband and co-founder of the SDA Church, wrote:
"We do not claim that Mrs. White's writings are equal to the Bible... They are a lesser light to lead men to the greater light." (Review and Herald, 1865)
He emphasized that Revelation 22:18 specifically addresses

  • Those who would alter biblical doctrine

  • Those who would claim equal authority with Scripture

  • Those who would add new books to the canon

The "Third Elijah" Understanding

Adventist pioneers understood the Elijah prophecy as having multiple fulfillments

  1. First Fulfillment: John the Baptist (Luke 1:17, KJV)
"And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
  2. Second/End-Time Fulfillment: The remnant church with the prophetic gift (Revelation 12:17, KJV)
"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
  3. "Third Elijah" Concept: Some Adventist writers described an additional end-time work that would:

    • Restore unity among believers

    • Prepare the church for Christ's return

    • Apply biblical truth to final crisis conditions

J.N. Andrews on Prophetic Continuity

J.N. Andrews, one of the most influential Adventist theologians, wrote:
"The gift of prophecy is not confined to the apostolic age... The Bible itself predicts that in the last days God would pour out His Spirit and His servants would prophesy." (Present Truth, 1850)
He clarified that such prophecy

  • Must align with existing Scripture

  • Cannot establish new doctrine

  • Points believers back to the Bible

The Key Distinction: Application vs. Addition

Adventist pioneers taught that end-time prophets do not "add to" Scripture in the sense forbidden by Revelation 22:18 because

  1. They don't create new canonical books
  2. They don't establish new doctrines independent of Scripture
  3. They apply existing biblical truth to new circumstances
  4. They point to Christ and His Word, not themselves
  5. As Ellen White wrote:
"The testimony of the Spirit of Prophecy is not to be placed on a level with the word of God... It is designed to bring the mind back to the Scriptures." (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 41)

Conclusion

According to Adventist pioneer writers, Revelation 22:18 does not prohibit end-time prophetic ministry because:
  1. Malachi 4:5-6 promises an Elijah-like messenger before Christ's return
  2. Joel 2:28-29 predicts continued prophetic gifts in the last days
  3. Revelation 12:17 describes a remnant with "the testimony of Jesus" (defined as "the spirit of prophecy" in Revelation 19:10, KJV)
  4. Prophetic gifts that point to Scripture without adding to it do not violate Revelation 22:18
The key is that such prophets illuminate rather than supersede the Bible, serving as a "lesser light" leading to the "greater light" of Scripture, always subject to biblical testing and never claiming equal authority with the canonical Word of God.
