Why can’t churches turn down the music

that reminds me of this: i attended a church in albany n.y. once & the pastor was speaking, the band was playing & lot's of people were flailing, praising & mumbling concomitantly! 1st Corinthians 14:40 teaches, "let ALL things be done decently & IN ORDER"!!!!

Maybe try the Quakers, they have no music at all and sit in silence, listening to God, who often doesn't say anything, or at least not to everyone.

If the sound is too loud in some churches why not just sit outside, you can still hear it, and enjoy the sun. Or you could record it or bluetooth it to a speaker where you can control the sound. Idk just trying to think of some solutions.

Esp when you've already asked if they can turn it down a little. I know a lot of people that have hearing aids (elderly) and often ask for the sound to be turned UP.

I'm the sound man at my church, and the pastor's wife is always complaining about I need to turn it up, turn it up, turn it up. She sits in the single worst seat in the entire building for sound, way out of the speaker direct line. Also the place where she sits gets a little mud in the sound because the stage monitors are blasting so loud... Because some of the singers and the piano player are half-deaf... Gee, I wonder how that happened...

It's not the kids who are driving the volume though, at least not here. It's the older people who grew up blasting music, so now they can't hear it very well at all. The '70s and '80s have a lot to answer for. If they would get hearing aids we could all turn it down and have a better service.

I think modern church buildings have terrible acoustics.

Back in the day nobody really needed mics. I think they had organs too, and they couldn't control the sound on those. And church bells. What happened to all the church bells??

The call to worship (and tell the time of day) was thanks to those bells. They were also meant to ring on wedding days and ..Christmas.

Some schools still have bells. One school I was in, did not have any bells, and I was like..how do the students know when it's time to finish? How can they be saved by the bell...when there isn't one?? What do they do when there's a fire??

I want to say, "just because YOU are half-deaf doesn't mean I should make everybody else half-deaf to compensate." What's a polite way to say that?

Suggest they invest in a hearing aid and give them the number of an audiologist.
 
I think they may do free trials, not sure.

I have had a hearing test (used to have them a lot as a child) .
I had one because work required it when I was mowing lawns, to make sure I hadn't gone deaf . We wore earplugs or ear defenders, as they called headphones/ear muffs.

I mean they now make quieter lawn mowers, that are battery powered, or you can just use a flymo....or do what they did in Russia, cut it with a scythe. Like the Grim Reaper.

All the sound is coming out the back, and pre-recorded so it possibly has backing vocals and the performers don't need your help.
I've seen some churches that have a perspex shield around the drumkit. No lie.

I mean honestly the little drummer boy is no longer little.

Our church as a plexiglass booth for the drummer, it helps a lot!!

Our pastor who is over the music ministry is also head of a local college music program, so he knows a lot about this stuff.

I do not go to church to be entertained... I don't go just because "they have a good band".... if I want that, there are plenty of concerts to attend...

When the church "worship leaders" are more concerned with entertaining than true praise/worship accompaniment, we have lost the war.

I love singing, praising and worshipping God.... but what many churches have DEvolved to is detrimental to that.... and is wrong, IMO.
 
It's very sad, cos I was hoping for harps or something.
You know, like the kind David played for his psalms, and soothed Saul when he was troubled by an evil spirit.

Instead most churches have a rock band (although it's called a praise and worship team) instead, and no choir.
 
Not good for those who suffer epilepsy or may be triggered.
Also smoke machines make me choke

If going to have light shows, maybe just have stained glass windows so can have all the time? Well when sun is shining.
Bubble machines would be better.

Also incense. They can come in huge censers.

It's known as smells and bells.

Wear ear plugs. I do. I also asked the greeter if they had a healing meeting after the service. And now I avoid the noise. It's worldly, unnecessary and unspiritual. God is not deaf.

I’ve heard before that Lucifer was above all musicians in the highest position of worship. While music is a powerful form of worship, it’s not the only. I am fond of music and it’s ability to penetrate the darkness, but have experienced prayer meetings with just a few people when song would break out and the experience was more powerful than any combination of instruments or worship “team”… especially one that is paid to perform.

The light shows and special effects are what bother me the most. Good for plays and productions, but not worship. Again, Lucifer was the most beautiful - something it seems like many modern day churches are striving for. Just my opinion.
