The act of repenting and accepting Jesus as your savior is not a WORK. After salvation, the spirit begins to teach us new and/or different ways of handling things and operating with the spirits leading. In regard to Hebrews 5:9, I often hear works-salvationists cite this verse in an effort to try and support salvation by works/works righteousness. Now only believers have obeyed Him by choosing to believe the gospel (Romans 1:16) in order to become saved, and only believers obey Him after they have been saved through faith by practicing righteousness and not sin. (1 John 3:9,10) In either sense, only believers obey Him.
Unbelievers/make believers have not obeyed Him by refusing to believe the gospel (Romans 10:16) and without faith it's impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6), so unbelievers/make believers do not obey Him no matter how much "so called" obedience that they attempt to conjure up from an unregenerate heart in a vain effort to receive salvation by works. (Matthew 7:22-23) In either sense, unbelievers do not obey Him.
In John 8:31, we read - If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples. (NASB 1995) Those who continue in His word demonstrate they truly are disciples of Jesus. Those who do not continue demonstrate otherwise.
This results in good works and produces fruit of the spirit (love). It's singular. The 1 Cor 13 love explains the FRUIT is LOVE and then provides types of loves manifestation. We fulfill the greatest commandment by allowing the spirit to work through us. And we fulfill the law of Moses as well.
This is God through the spirit guiding you. People who see these actions are seeing God/Jesus in action. We may or may not be making these action conscientiously.
If you choose to feed the poor, it's the spirit the is credited with the work, you should be doing it out of love, not to merit anything. It's about Jesus, not you, and his resurrection
