Ephesians 2 is not preaching faith alone.

In regard to Hebrews 5:9, I often hear works-salvationists cite this verse in an effort to try and support salvation by works/works righteousness. Now only believers have obeyed Him by choosing to believe the gospel (Romans 1:16) in order to become saved, and only believers obey Him after they have been saved through faith by practicing righteousness and not sin. (1 John 3:9,10) In either sense, only believers obey Him.

Unbelievers/make believers have not obeyed Him by refusing to believe the gospel (Romans 10:16) and without faith it's impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6), so unbelievers/make believers do not obey Him no matter how much "so called" obedience that they attempt to conjure up from an unregenerate heart in a vain effort to receive salvation by works. (Matthew 7:22-23) In either sense, unbelievers do not obey Him.

In John 8:31, we read - If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples. (NASB 1995) Those who continue in His word demonstrate they truly are disciples of Jesus. Those who do not continue demonstrate otherwise.
The act of repenting and accepting Jesus as your savior is not a WORK. After salvation, the spirit begins to teach us new and/or different ways of handling things and operating with the spirits leading.

This results in good works and produces fruit of the spirit (love). It's singular. The 1 Cor 13 love explains the FRUIT is LOVE and then provides types of loves manifestation. We fulfill the greatest commandment by allowing the spirit to work through us. And we fulfill the law of Moses as well.

This is God through the spirit guiding you. People who see these actions are seeing God/Jesus in action. We may or may not be making these action conscientiously.

If you choose to feed the poor, it's the spirit the is credited with the work, you should be doing it out of love, not to merit anything. It's about Jesus, not you, and his resurrection

By repenting and accepting Jesus as Savior by placing our faith in Him alone for salvation we did not work for salvation but are trusting in Another's work (Christ's finished work of redemption - Romans 3:24-26)

No it doesn't, your reading a presupposition into the text.

Yes we must acknowledge we are sinners in need if a savior.. this isn't a work...

Quoting another author who answers this:

Someone asked if I could address the relationship between salvation and baptism in Scripture, because they have a friend who believes that you cannot be saved unless you are baptized. In this person’s view (and they are part of a denomination that believes this), the physical act of baptism washes you from your sin. They cite Acts 2:38: “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

For years I taught biblical interpretation at a Bible college. One of the things we discussed is that Scripture must always be compared with other Scripture. God doesn’t contradict Himself. The Bible is its own best interpreter. If a particular text, in this case Acts 2:38, seems to violate what many other texts teach, we need to question our interpretation of that text.

The many biblical texts insisting that we are not saved by works, but by faith, should lead us to seriously question an interpretation that says being baptized—or any other external act we can do—is part of what saves us. Our salvation is by God’s grace through faith alone (Romans 3:22-30; Romans 4:5; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Philippians 3:9). Note that our faith is not a work, as some people wrongly state. A work is an external action, such as praying, giving, evangelizing, attending church, or getting baptized. Salvation should result in these works, but it never is caused by them.

Acts 10:44-48 is a key text because it’s so clear that these people were saved first, had already received the Holy Spirit, and only THEN were baptized. The order is critical. Please read that text to see what I mean.

First Corinthians 1:14-17 ends with “Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel...” This demonstrates that baptism is not necessary to salvation, because if it were, Paul would not separate it from the gospel message.

Acts 2:38 makes it clear that baptism is vitally important, and it certainly is. But other passages show repentance involves placing saving faith in Christ. The same Peter who spoke the words of Acts 2:38 also preached a gospel message in the temple (Acts 3:12-26). In these fifteen verses, Peter makes no reference to baptism but says this: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19). What wipes out sin? Repentance, which in the larger context involves turning to Jesus as our Redeemer to save us from the condemnation of our sins.

If baptism is necessary for our sins to be forgiven, why didn’t Peter say so in Acts 3? Why didn’t Luke, who recorded these words, add that baptism is essential to being saved
Acts 2:36-42 aligns perfectly with scripture, there is no contradiction. Every one of the elements of the conversion experience presented by Peter in Acts 2 is essential and results in the foundation having been laid. Jesus reveals there are dire consequences for believers who neglect to lay a proper foundation.

"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great." Luke 6:46-49

The same account is referenced in Matthew 7 where Jesus told those who already believed in Him that He never knew them. Afterward Jesus reveals their problem; clearly they were the foolish builders; they neglected to lay a proper foundation.

As to the sequence, it does not come into play as confirmed by scripture. Some receive the Holy Ghost prior to water baptism, others afterward. However, each conversion account reveals all individuals accepted and obeyed the commands, and received the Holy Ghost as evidenced by speaking in tongues.

You state that sins are washed away at the point of repenting. However, scripture states otherwise. Obedience to water baptism in the name of Jesus is the point in which sins are forgiven. "Repent, AND be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus for remission of sin..." (Acts 2:38) Peter's comment in Acts 3:19 does not exclude water baptism. Repentance is the act of turning away from sin and going in pursuit of God's ways which includes obedience to water baptism for remission of sin as commanded by Peter.

Keep in mind that Saul, prior to becoming the Apostle Paul, was told to be baptized and wash away his sins calling upon the name of the Lord. (Acts 22:16)

And Acts 10:43 states it is through the name of Jesus that believers shall receive remission of sins. And the account reveals after receiving the Holy Ghost the Gentiles were commanded to be water baptized IN THE NAME OF THE LORD. (Acts 10:47-48)

Nothing about loss of salvation.

Baptism is not a part of salvation, you haven't deep dived on how that sentence is structured and why it was stated that way.
Keep in mind that Saul, prior to becoming the Apostle Paul, was told to be baptized and wash away his sins calling upon the name of the Lord. (Acts 22:16)

This doesn't say baptism is part of salvation, only that one should be baptized.

Again you're just reading a presupposition into the text it's not there you might think it's there but it's because you're interpreting repentance of salvation and that's not the case either

Ok, I'm willing to believe that salvation is attained solely by belief in Jesus (in his death to take the punishment for our sins, his burial, and resurrection) and then through sanctification we must follow Jesus' commands (the logic is a little iffy to me), but how is repenting not a work? It would be the work of ceasing from your sin.

Read Hebrews 6:1-2 it indicates what constitutes as part of the foundation required of all.

If one hears Jesus say, "I never knew you" you can be guaranteed they are not saved:
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (clearly the people who made these statements were believers in Jesus)

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it." Matt 7

Two different salvations

Faith alone = placed into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. This saves you from the second death.
Works through Faith = activity of righteousness defined by being led by the Spirit of God. This saves you from the corruption of the world.

Adam is responsible for the sin in the flesh. Therefore a new identity, not in Adam, is required to escape the second death. Here, faith is required.

Satan is responsible for the corruption of the world. He is the god of the air. The systems he created are designed to entrap men within them through messages of self-reliance and fear. Only people who are in Christ may accomplish works of faith that "deliver them from evil". By these works they are saved, not to go to heaven (that is already accomplished), but from the ways of the wicked one.
What Would be the father of this group who keep willfully sinning afterwards?

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:23-30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What’s the date of this group here ?

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”

you should consider what James is saying here about Abraham and faith

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
‭‭James‬ ‭2:19-24, 26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

aim not sure if you are familiar with Abraham’s story and what he’s talking about there but before Abraham had acted offering Isaac , God had already called him righteous because he had believed what God told him and obeyed by faith
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Or like Noah if he had heard gods warning and instructions to build e ark but rejected it and not obeyed , he wouldn’t have ever had a boat But re her he believed God and built the ark by faith in obedience to Gods command and instructions that promised him salvation

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Had Noah not acted and done what he was commanded it wouldn’t have saved him and his family and he wouldn’t have become hier of the righteousness of faith

faith isn’t the reason we don’t need to do anything it’s the reason we can know and do what he’s told us will result in life everlasting

Having one's sins remitted is in fact part of the salvation process. And obedience to God's command of water baptism in the name of Jesus is what remits sin.

Since people are not saved prior to receiving the Holy Ghost and having their sins remitted. (Rom. 8:9, Acts 2:38...) Saul/Paul was no exception. (Acts 9:17-18) Also, Paul's question to the 12 Ephesians, "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?" confirms this truth. (Acts 19:1-7) And unless a man is born of water and Spirit he cannot SEE or ENTER into the kingdom of Heaven, Jesus' words not mine. (John 3:3-5) Every account detailing specifics associated with the NT rebirth include water baptism in the name of Jesus, and receiving the Holy Ghost/Spirit. This is no coincidence it's confirmation of what must be believed and acted upon by those living under the New Covenant.

“associated with the NT rebirth include water baptism in the name of Jesus, and receiving the Holy Ghost/Spirit.”

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

But I mean if we can’t even see the need to be baptized for remission of sins in his name how could we ever really hear Paul’s teachings like this ….to those who had believed and been baptized

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:1-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We can’t keep living by the flesh and also walk in the spirit they are contrary sin and righteousness

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:19-21‬

If we keep doing the wrong things and never get around to repentance and doing the right things we shouldn’t expect an inheritance of Gods eternal kingdom .

“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. ( Jesus ascendingninto heaven ) And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭7:13-

remember it’s a “ baptism of repentance for the remission of sins in his name

“and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:46

baptism is definately for the remission of sins which we need but this also is needed for a change from old to new

if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; ( hearing Jesus and his gospel renews the mind )

and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

Great post!

Listening to the myriad of voices aspousing the traditions of men is not the answer. In Mark 7:13, Jesus says: “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye”. This passage teaches that prioritizing human-made religious customs over biblical commands voids the authority of Scripture in a person's life.

The Word says, "Let God be true and every man a liar." (Rom. 3:4) And faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God!

Lastly, Jesus made it clear that those who hunger and thirst after righteousness will be filled. (Matt. 5:6)

Because the definition of work when you look through the text of New Testament is twofold one is to love God and love thy neighbor and also to do the will of the father which is to believe in Jesus

Because we are using the word work it will get conflated with the obvious work of the Mosaic law or works to gain something or gain Merit but we know that our righteousness is as filthy rags and that nothing we do will gain the favor of God it's purely because he called us gave us faith and Grace which we acted upon we are responding to his work all this other stuff of ceremonial or celebrations are Sabbath and so on those were exclusively to Israel anyway to make them separate and be a part from other nations and that is served its purpose

Read Hebrews 6:1-2 it indicates what constitutes as part of the foundation required of all.

Salvation by Faith Alone:
Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast”.

The Thief on the Cross: Jesus promised paradise to the thief who believed, even though the thief was never baptized (Luke 23:39-43).

1 Peter 3:21: Peter clarifies that baptism is “not the removal of dirt from the body” (not a washing away of sin by water) but rather “an appeal to God for a good conscience”.

Paul’s Mission: In 1 Corinthians 1:17, Paul states, “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel,” implying baptism is distinct from the gospel message that saves.

Examples of Salvation Before Baptism:

Acts 10:44-48 tells of Gentiles receiving the Holy Spirit—the marker of salvation—before they were baptized with water.

Romans 10:9: Confessing with the mouth and believing in the heart results in salvation, with no mention of baptism.
John 5:24: Whoever hears and believes has eternal life, without mention of baptism.

Acts 16:31: Paul tells the jailer simply to “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved”

If you want to see it that way fine it's not in the text of the Bible baptism is not part of the Salvation process it is one of the two sacraments that are commanded by Jesus to the believer

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

seems like it is in the text according to Jesus words before you folks begin explaining it away and saying “it’s someone else trying to add baptism” it’s throughout the text…. And is tied directly to his promise

“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:37-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:27, 29‬ ‭

Of course a lot more but it’s definately there simple and clear if we’re looking at the biblical text it’s simple like this

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Here’s what that looks like

“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, ( he was reading about the messiah dying and being raised in isaiah) and preached unto him Jesus.

And as they went on their way, And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:35-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

See the simplicity ? That’s faith God made a promise and so the person believes and responds in faith to the instruction .

As I said sequence does not matter. There is no remission of sin prior to obedience to the command.

The account in Ephesians states we are saved through faith per the grace of God. Man did nothing to deserve God making a way for salvation. Jesus died for the sins of all mankind, yet not all will take hold of what He died to provide. Those who believe and obey God's instructions presented by Peter are saved through their willing to act in faith to the message.

The thief died prior to the institution of the NT. In fact no one could be reborn until the NT was instituted after Jesus shed/poured forth the gift of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost. Jesus prophesied about what Peter commanded concerning the NT rebirth; believe, repent, be water baptized in the name of Jesus, and receive the Holy Ghost as well. (Luke 24:47)

As Peter stated, water baptism is not about washing dirt off of ones physical body. One's belief and obedience to the command results in what God says it does; sins are remitted.

Paul's primary ministry was not to baptize the people but to preach the gospel message that included the need to be baptized. This becomes clear when one takes the time to study all scriptures relative to the topic. Paul was still administering water baptism some 20+ years after Peter gave the command at Pentecost. He baptized 12 men when others were not available to do so. (Acts 19:1-7)

Not actually sure what you're arguing here
I am not arguing. I am pointing out what scripture reveals. Building without first having a foundation in place is pointless:

"For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

(The following comments indicate what the foundation consists of and that it need only be laid one time)

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Okay I'll make this statement for the third time and then I'm done with it once you you show that these 150 verses are not saying faith alone then I will consider your viewpoint

Good luck so far nobody in 2,000 years have been able to do it but I await your very detailed explanation against each of these versus
