Babylon will be the one-world religion which the pope of the end time will rule. So it will encompass all the religions of the world except those who belong to Lord Jesus.

That's why we're warned:

Read Ezekiel 16-23 the descriptions describe what he said about Jerusalem ……

In the revelation narrative vision the woman who appears in chapter 12 is israel with her capital jerusalem. Later she becomes the woman who is seen in the wilderness . What it’s showing is in chapter 12 the beautiful woman with the crown and beautiful appearance set above the rest and made beautiful by the lord

“Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem;…..

remember what God said when he chose Jerusalem as his earthly city that if they would have obeyed the covenant. They would have ruled the entire earth …… in several prophecies in the ot jerusalem is called a harlot and whore who committed fornicatuons and whoredoms and spread them about among other nations ….

Babylon is a kingdom that has power over the whole earth, which is full of idols and other things that boast profanity against God.
There is also egypt, the kingdom that made slaves of their benefactors.
And sodom, a land full of wealth but also with people who are immoral and have no campassion on the poor.

This is Revelation 12 verse 1:

"Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.”

So, we see the woman here first.

To continue in the next verses:

“3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.”

This male child is not Jesus. He is the corporate Christ represented by the fully mature saints. The “rod of iron” and the “throne” establish Christ’s power and authority: they are unmatched and unquestionable.

But notice then, that woman flees into the wilderness.

After this, the angels are thrown down to the earth. They leave their spiritual abode for the temporal abode in the earth. This is why the dragon is angry: now he is ruled by time and his time is short.

The dragon's ire gives rise to the next verses:

“Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent."

This is the unfolding of a singular event. The serpent's actions are very specific:

15 "So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

In the scriptures, water may signify word. It may also mean people. Perhaps here it means both.

However, the earthed helps the woman. Isn’t that strange? When has the earth ever helped the church? It swallows the people and their curse. Could it be the earth saw value in saving the woman? So, the dragon turns to make war with the rest of her offspring. This is not the mature male child; these are those from the woman (church) who are their own groups.

So, where do we find the woman again? Or, rather, when is John carried into the wilderness again and what does he see?
We have to flip to Revelation 17.

Verse 3 reads: “So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness.”

So, John is carried into the wilderness to see what?

Verses 1 and 2: “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

This is the same woman who fled into the wilderness in chapter 12.

So, this is why the earth, typically an enemy of the church/woman, saved the woman from the attack of the beast in Revelation 12:15,16; the woman was useful to the earth. And notice that she now sits on many waters which is what the dragon spewed out of his mouth. This is now her foundation: the word of the people (many waters).

Fornication refers to improper intimacy with the woman. The rulers of the earth use the woman for their political gain and the woman uses the earth to gain influence over the people.

Verse 3 continues into verse 5: “And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written:
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”

These names of blasphemy are likely any name under which the church gathered as a symbol of their identity.

So, the woman, who fled into the wilderness in chapter 12, becomes the harlot we see again in Chapter 17.

Her antecedents did not have a global reach. In the end, she will cover the whole earth.

In short: Babylon is the religious system of the world. She will be useful to the beast until she is not. The amalgamation of politics and religion will continue until the world's political system deems the religious system to be too costly to corral. Then they will destroy her by stripping her of her resources and crushing any relevance she had in the earth.

16The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire.

And just a bit later:

18"The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”

You must not think of "city" as a collection of buildings in a certain location. In its purest form, a "city" represents a organization of thoughts, ideas, values, and people. The harlot, therefore, is the representation of this way of thinking. Because she is a harlot she is necessarily associated with the Bride of Christ; one is juxtaposed to another. So the harlot represents a figure like the Bride of Christ but without chastity and godly wisdom. Indeed she is the opposite: a whore who will perform like a wife for payment (money, resources, the promise of influence) from anyone.

god had promised the messiah to israel for along time and they were going through the “birth pains” before he came . Which is how god describes the turmoil they were to endure before he would be born …. isaiah 66:6-8

This is referencing psalm 2 about the son of God who would come forth and rule with a rod of iron …. the messiah

It’s pretty remarkable if you let it prophecy answer the questions of what the imagery means nearly every section of the book …..is referencing ot prophecy and the images those old prophecies create .

If you look closely Jesus ascends into heaven here

They would then be known as the kingdom of man.

3 ribs in mouth 3 nations they conquered now fighting for them.

10 horns the world divided in 10 sections with a leader in each section.

The Roman Empire does not lose their physical dominion until Jesus puts down the world

Babylon, Iraq, Medo-Persia, Iran, and Greece will never have physical dominion again but their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

Dan 2:34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.

All 4 kingdoms ways fall at the same time.

The visions that John saw were past, present, and future.
John saw visions that had occurred and seen how the Lord overcame in some visions as a testimony to God's ability to subdue his enimies. To bring hope to the faithful.
Interesting also are the numbers used to represent a certain amount such as 12. 666. 24. Which is linked to a ancient Hebrew language of numbers and letters known by Christians back in the day.

Scripture repeatedly depicts Israel in the Old Testament with the same descriptions found in Revelation.
