You did not understand what I said. A changed heart and Christlikeness is the sign the Holy Spirit has come to dwell in a person.

Every single church that exists today has members and sometimes many members who are very far from exhibiting Christlikeness. That has nothing to do with what I said in response to the op saying the 'sign' that the Holy Spirit indwells a person is speaking in tongues.

I was responding to the tongues claim which that particular op claims. I am somewhat taken aback you don't seem to believe that a person who actually is indwelt by the Holy Spirit will exhibit Christlikeness. I am talking about someone who turns from sin and want to follow Jesus, not someone who wants to blab in tongues and claim a healing ministry or whatever.

That, is the person who is filled with the Holy Spirit. It is alarming and serious that people can actually have gifts and still be rejected by Jesus one day.

I'm not going to debate with you. I don't think what I said is hard to understand and frankly if you don't agree and think the Holy Spirit is only about spiritual gifts, I see that as your own person understanding but it is not mine.
Your comment: "Christlikeness is the sign the Holy Spirit has come to dwell in a person."

I did not say that a person who is indwelt by the Holy Spirit does not exhibit Christlikeness. What I said is Christlikeness is not the initial sign that accompanies the infilling; speaking in tongues is. (Acts 2:4, 10:43-48, 19:1-7)

You know, I think the scripture about the tongue setting the world on fire is something you should pay more attention to.

IT'S NOT ABOUT TONGUES. ITS ABOUT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WHOM YOU NEVER SEEM TO TALK ABOUT.

What I said is Christlikeness is not the initial sign that accompanies the infilling; speaking in tongues is.

Perverse. Right. So God is just going to distribute gifts to people who do not know what to do with them. It appears you put more weight on signs and wonders then in sanctification. Tongues served a purpose as we read in Acts....over 2000 were saved and the gospel was preached for the first time.

Now go ahead and make that happen since you think everyone must speak in tongues the moment they accept Christ. You have the logic of a brick and that's a compliment.

That helps to explain the distortion of Christianity that so many people suffer from these days.

I would rather not have any sort of spiritual gift than be blind to the fact you gift/tongues people do not seek Christ.

You insult people with your deviation from scripture. It's disgusting.

Earnestly desire the spiritual gifts

14 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy

Yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. I Cor. 14:19

14 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

2For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

3But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4&He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

6Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

Earnestly desire the spiritual gifts

So have you managed to see over 2000 people saved at one time because you think you can speak in tongues and others understand no matter how many languages are represented in the 2000?

Please. Go ahead. Show us all how you do tongues just like in the Bible. Very hypocritical if you cannot and do not do the same.

Mark 3:28—“Most certainly I tell you, all sins of the descendants of man will be forgiven, including their blasphemies with which they may blaspheme; but whoever may blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation.”

I hope you preachers of this doctrine are actually able to speak in tongues yourself by the holy spirit, without faking it or merely presuming you can, so that you can be ready to condemn those otherwise righteous people who believed yet didn't speak in tongues on the day of Judgment.

Otherwise if your teaching is false, you will be condemned on the day of judgment, with all your affliction of God warning you to stop revealed, along with all your secret sins, and you will perish in blazing flames worse than fire, and never see anything good again.

So if you augt to repent, repent while you still can, even if it hurts whatever image you've made for yourself in this world.

1 Timothy 4:1—But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron, forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
Speaking in tongues is not a doctrine of demons, quite the contrary. God's communication with man's renewed spirit is a true blessing.

"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
And of some have compassion, making a difference:
And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen." Jude 20-25

Galatians 5:22—But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Scripture reveals tongues is the initial sign. Whereas, the fruit of the Spirit is evidence of the enduring presence as the born again believer continues to mature.

Yeah I'm fed up with all this oneness pentecostal tongues misinformation.

You do not have to speak in tongues, or be baptized in Jesus name only or anything else these obsessed with tongues individuals tell you.

There is no such thing as baptismal regeneration, which they teach ie. having your sins forgiven which means the blood of Jesus is secondary.

You do not have to be re-baptized if you were baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

And you most certainly, absolutly do have the Holy Spirit indwelling you as a seal that you have indeed been welcomed into the family of believers.

Scripture reveals tongues is the initial sign. Whereas, the fruit of the Spirit is evidence of the enduring presence as the born again believer continues to mature.

No. That is your belief, but scripture teaches that not everyone has the gift of tongues.

I think you should pray for discernment but that might be wasted on you since you are already eyes deep in deception.

Where does it say the moment you're saved and Speak in Tongues you automatically have the Gift of Tongues?

When Paul said he wished everyone Spoke in Tongues he also said to pray for the Gift if you don't have it. So it's accessible to all.
The Bible does not teach that 'the moment you're saved' that you speak in tongues. That is bizarre doctrine.

He also asks, 'not all speak in tongues, do they?'

And he said to pray to be able to ____interpret tongues.__ Where does he say to pray to be able to speak in tongues?

In Acts 19, prophesying also occurred. It is isn't clear that every individual of the 12 spoke in tongues in that passage. Peter quoted Joel about prophesying in Acts 2.
Peter addressed the peoples question concerning the miraculous manifestation of speaking in tongues:

"...we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Acts 2:11-17

Peter went on to explain that what they were hearing was the Holy Ghost.
"Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he (Jesus) hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Acts 2:33

And he doesn't say you have to speak in tongues to be saved, or aren't saved if you don't speak in tongues.

Doesn't it bother you that 'how to get saved' really doesn't show up, in your interpretation, anywhere but Acts? Like the doctrine in Romans doesn't really tell how to get saved. And you have to interpret Acts rather creatively to get to your soteriology?

The gift given was the Holy Spirit. The sign that the gift was given was speaking in tongues. That's bible.
There were many thousands of people saved through the direct ministry of the apostles. “Speaking in tongues” is mentioned for a few dozen at most.

You are assuming what Scripture does not explicitly state and making doctrine from your assumptions. That’s not sound reasoning.

Verily verily I say unto you

You don't want the truth. You want to be agreed with.

Millions of people depend on what Paul wrote concerning the gifts but you are going to shapeshift and discredit it because he sent that letter to the Ephesians.

It's impressive that you try so hard, but it just makes your error(s) more egregious. I think you are running out of make believe.
Your accusation is unfounded. I am doing what we are commanded to do, and that is my best to share the truth in love. My prayer is that people will research what scriptures actually convey, and not just accept what others say they mean. Personally, I am thankful for the people who shared truth from the Word that shattered previously held beliefs. And I thank God for it!

I think it would be helpful to remember we're in this journey to help one another. May God Bless.

I was five years old when I accepted Christ. I did not speak in tongues at that time. I was not going to hell because I did not speak in tongues but I was definately 'saved'.

I was also not baptized at that time and I was not going to hell because I was not baptized at that time.

You oneness people are just ridiculous. You have no way of 'proving' that everyone who was saved 2000 years ago spoke in tongues the moment they accepted Christ. Is everything that happened back then in the Bible? Get a grip on reality instead of this fantasy that everything that happens in this century must be a repeat perfomance. That is not reality

It is really concerning that you ignore the fact Paul said not all speak in tongues. It results in false teaching.
Taken in context, Paul's comment pertains specifically to Spiritual Gifts used to edify others. In the case of the gift of tongues, God chooses individuals to present His messages to edify the people within congregations. The messages are then interpreted by Spirit filled people of God's choosing via the miraculous Gift of Interpretation.

Your prayers are answered! I reject the teaching of oneness pentecostalism and no one has done more to make that happen than you! Congrats! I can reject your doctrine with utter confidence because I have and I do research the scriptures. I am not on any journey to help you with your false doctrine. Mercy me....in no way

There is nothing you can tell me about the use of tongues in congregations....which I have found to be mostly false. The Holy Spirit does not at all interpret. Hey listen....if things were actually as wonderful as truth being proclaimed through human vessels in the power of the Holy Spirit, churches WOULD BE PACKED.

Yes. Tongues is the sign that the Holy Ghost has come to dwell in a person. And, as we know, the Holy Ghost is essential for salvation. (John 3:3-5, Rom. 8:9)

No, the blood of Jesus is essential for salvation. Paul, the Apostle to the gentiles said that not all speak in tongues, so why do you? It seems you are above any sort of correction no matter how many times scripture reflects the fact you are in error.
