John Thune says there may not be enough time to push voter ID and citizenship rules through a standing filibuster:
“I guess I would just remind people that the coin of the realm in the Senate is floor time. There’s a finite amount of it, and we have a lot of competing priorities.
You got a housing bill, you got a farm bill, you got a highway bill. You can go right down the list. Russia, Ukraine, China, all the things that we have to deal with on the international stage.
And so, if we get into a prolonged, unlimited debate and amendment process, uh, that, that could tie this place up for a long time. And we, we have to make judgments about what we’re gonna do and, and the sequencing of our, our legislative priorities.”

The Senate Majority Leader said the chamber simply does not have enough floor time to tie itself up for days or weeks with nonstop debate.
He stressed that other must-pass bills are waiting, and the Senate cannot afford to to stop everything to secure elections.
“I would just remind people that the coin in the realm in the Senate is floor time. There’s a finite amount of it. We have a lot of things to do: housing bill waiting action, market structure bill, possibly permitting reform, farm bill, highway bill. You can go on and on. So you have to make some judgments and the conference will have a conversation about that."
"I’ve committed we will vote on the Save Act but exercising or triggering a talking filibuster has ramifications, implications everybody needs aware of. Discussions obviously ties the floor up for an indefinite amount of time with not only unlimited debate but also unlimited amendments.”
Some, including the President, think the SAVE act in extremely important in securing elections, by requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote, an photo ID when voting.
The House passed the bill multiple times.
In the Senate, Republicans hold 53 seats and need 60 votes to break a Democratic filibuster under normal rules and he refuses to nuke the filibuster.
Critics are accusing Thune of being part of the 'establishment' that wants to get along with Democrats instead of delivering the American mandate.
They point out he was very close to Mitch McConnell and finds more value in maintaining Senate 'norms' and his own power than securing elections.
Conservatives say Thune is making excuses for quietly k*lling the bill and many are now calling for Thune to be removed as Senate Majority leader, saying he's a RINO and deep state ally.
