I agree. I particular disagree with the seemingly-widespread idea of a group of musicians putting on a "performance" for the rest of the congregation to listen to. That's fine in a musical concert, but not as part of Christian worship.

Most of this is not what God wants! The pattern to follow is in the scripture! This is a plague that has chocked and stifled true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ as they gather with others. Their time is consumed with events, activities, (sometimes sensationalism) time wasted with a shallow understanding of what honors and glorifies The Lord God. Hos. 10:12
About a year ago, I tried out a new church. The so called worship leader made sure no one but him could be heard. One of the other band members, would kind of 'howl' over everything (making sure she was heard?)....she sang one time, I had been wondering how she would sound if she actually sang and there was nothing there. Nothing
One time one of the members, a young woman, was leading and that was the ONLY time there was actual worship but she was new
at it I think and kind of left off and did not know how to finish it. Was still the only time actual worship occured.
The so called worship leader was no more able to lead people into worship then my husky who howls pretty loud.
I've kind of had it with so called 'modern' worship music anyway. Having heard 'insider' facts about some of the popular Christian singers (use your imagination they are always being played on the radio), from someone who left one of these touring bands,
it's like any other band. The bus, the people, the forced holy attitude....when they come out to sing, the adulation is not for
God.

Electronic Amplified sound (microphones etc) has only been around the last century or so.
You can't 'turn' the sound down if it's naturally loud.
Mostly it would be electric guitar, but drums and clanging cymbals are also noisy, and not many people lead or sing without mics. If they are not singing with mics then they will be lipsynching to a backing track. Hence the need for speakers in church and 'sound guys'
If you had natural acoustics, there would be no need for this. this is why some churches hold their services in auditoriums.
Anyway, if you want to see a production, a song, dance and a show - a performance, maybe go the a CCM concert, or watch one of those Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, like Jesus Christ Superstar of Joseph and the amazing technicolour dreamcoat.
Those have way better costumes than CCM concerts, who still dress like hipsters from the 90s - black t shirts with scripture on them and skinny jeans.

Much of the church has been turned into an audience instead of active participants in the life of the church. No one gives out prizes to spectators. It's part of the reason why so many believers are restless or have quit meetings altogether.
I play the guitar, poorly because I do not practice enough. Decades ago, I was co leader of a small group of believers while I was in the military. All we had was some overhead slides (I'm showing my age) and me on guitar. We had some wonderful times of praise and worship.
I also saw from the Lord that music could be dangerous. It very much affects the emotions. A lot people confuse warm fuzzy feelings with being spiritual. Yet they go home from the meeting empty. It's like eating a doughnut, nice but of no nutritional value.
We had a new believer who had been into Satan worship. He could see demons. He said that when we were singing, there were no evil demons, but when we stopped, one would come into the meeting. I did not not see or sense anything, but I was only a few years old in Jesus myself. I immediately remembered that when David sang, the evil spirit left Saul alone. The new believer did not know about that.The Navy sent me off to another base, so I lost touch with the group. They also were posted elsewhere. I'd like to know what happened to the young man. He'd be 70 by now!

I miss overhead slides. Wasn’t that long ago brother! I was save in ‘94, but wasn’t too long after that maybe a couple years before PowerPoint took over. I think the dazzle of electronics has heavily influenced and warped worship. And while I’m leery of experiences where people see evil spirits, in that context I believe that new believer was probably seeing very clearly, and would be interesting to know where he is today. The only thing more impressive and beautiful than modern technology was Lucifer before he was cast down. For sure he is sore displeased when the people of God gather and lift their hearts and praise in the name of Jesus, the One who defeated death. The Lord bless you brother.

Why don't churches do hip hop or rap anymore? Then the people that can't sing can at least rap or do actions. Kids like this.
I'm tired of soft rock. Also, not everyone can sound like Karen Carpenter but it actually would be kind of nice if they did.

Too bad, she died when I was...3. Oh but her voice lives on. Sang like an angel, much like Eva Cassidy, again, passed on, only in her 30s. If we could all sing like these ladies, then for sure I'd be in church every week.
Men can sing too, maybe Pavarotti style, but they could maybe just play piano as well. If they can harmonise even better. I just don't understand why nobody sings in harmony in church these days. It's just all rock, and hits me like a lead weight.

I used to love my old mc hammer pants, with the drawstring at the ankles. I was a bit of a breakdance/freestyle BMX legend, back in the 80’s. Just nobody else knew it, so I didn’t really get anywhere.
