40 was strict so strictl put fear if miss count but 40 is something to know see if get anyone else chime in in case u fig it out hang loose a bit.i don't want give what it is yetall should already know this study it don't plaster scripture .they stop at 40 save one ,39 for big reasons not just one.try imagine how many stripes Jesus took for us

The standard amount of punishment was a sentence of 40 lashes.

The rule was, if the guy made a mistake and went over the limit then he would also get 40 lashes. To be on the safe side and not go over, the amount was reduced by one to make the total 39.

I have no idea how that 40 lash limit was derived but probably is biblically significant.

It could be any amount up to 40 stripes but not over 40.

The stripe seems like it could not be too severe for a lash to be able to give them 40 but added up in the same area could be severe.

39Lashes was a standard practice ,still called 40 lashes .If The striker killed the aaccused,His life was over Also The Romans had a more brutal ,no limits on lashings
Jesus took The most lashings ( I feel) Them 40+ lashing Would had killed any other man .
