I think going out is a treat to eat is for most people NOT a regular occurance. Most people will only pay for a hot drink or maybe a muffin or scone, not a full meal. Because its so expensive. The cheapest thing on a menu that will fill you up, that you can take away is probably a meat pie.

as for dating when people ask on here they dont seem to realise how expensive it can be...if you the guy, paying for meals and transport, if you the gal, dressing up, as a really good 'wow' outfit can cost up to $1000 in total of you take into account clothes, shoes, handbag, coat, jewellery, makeup, spanx undies etc lol

as for a wedding...forget about it!

I dont think my friend should devalue herself or mock her own clothing choices. She probably doesnt realise this.

so what if your ring cost only $2 nobody needs to know exactly how much it was.

Otherwise maybe everyone should just keep price tags on their clothes. Not sure why its bothering me but why put yourself down for being poor perhaps?

married people may wear diamond rings or wear other expensive jewellery given to them but I dont think they ever say how much it cost to wear it, and they wouldnt say oh its cheap it was only $2

I just thought a ring might be insurance after you are widowed OR you could sell it if you had a REALLY hard time.

Divorced people dont need their marriage rings anymore and they could sell them though I dont actually know what they do with them, give them back to each other?

In Gone with the wind movie, theres a scene at the Atlanta Bazaar where they are raising money for 'the cause'. The soldiers are collecting funds. Melanie, who is married, takes her wedding ring off her finger and puts it in the basket. she says it will help others more, OFF her finger. Scarlett, who is widowed, takes her ring off and chucks it in the basket too.

Then later the rings are returned as they decide they wont sell them for cash.

I was reading a history of my city and found out

the founding metropolitan govts tried to buy land on the cheap! And then sell it for more and keep the difference for themselves
Thats why we have so many problems today ugh

I dont think this is fair. Surely there must be a better way

I was thinking that instead of buying or selling, land could be just be apportioned by lucky draw or raffle.

You cant pay me to shop there but you do actually have to pay to shop there.

Its like those expos that charge you just to go in and dont give you any freebies or samples, but then want you to buy even more stuff.

my friend tried to convicnce me to save money by getting me to throw away my shoes that needed repairing and just buy a new pair for $20.

But Im like I like MY shoes. Whats wrong with fixing them? The glue probably costs a lot more anyway if I bought it myself. And how wasteful to throw away shoes?!

I got mildly annoyed with friends who try and monitor my purchases. I dont ever tell them what they can or cannot buy...its their money not mine.

However, I am relatively well off that I can actually afford a car.
I once had a person on the forum ask me what kind if car I had and I just said 'one that goes'

I am over people judging me for what kind of car I drive. I notice when you are on the road, whther you are driving an old banger or a humvee or a BMW. it doesnt matter what you are driving you still in the queue. The red sea of traffic will not part for you unless you are driving a police car or an ambulance.

My car was cheap. It was even bought from a car yard called 2cheapcars. But I only bought 1cheapcar.
It's not the cheapest car I've bought though. That prize goes to the Hot Wheels I bought for $2 each.

By boasting on it here, I suppose I'm a cheapskate. Even though it's a car not a skateboard.

Buying a cheap car was a mission, I heard that if you buy a not cheap car like a Tesla, you just order it online and it gets delivered to your door. You don't even need to test drive it. It should work after you've plugged it in overnight, and if it doesn't, you ring Tesla up and get them to swap it for one that does work.

It doesn't sell cars, but loads of other things that are cheap, like my $8 knock off Crocs.

Was thinking on this as was having lunch with a friend and I noticed that she was wearing a nice blue ring that complemented the colour of her outfit. I knew it was costume jewellery, so its not like I was exclaiming over a precious jewel. I just said thats a nice ring you are wearing I love the colour it goes with your outfit.

However she immediately said 'oh its cheap' and 'I got from $2 shop'

So I said what, oh you shouldnt say that! Like cheapening what she wears. You could pretend it was worth a million dollars!

Then I wondered why she would say it was cheap cos I wasnt saying it like I was thinking of buying it off her or caring how much it costs.

I noticed she would do this even when she gave me or someone else a gift and even say 'I got it from an op shop" But in her world, that is like the high praise and a point of pride to say she got it cheap or discount.

I then wonder if I should instead start complimenting people on how much their outfits cost them. And highest of praise if they fished it out of the dumpster!

no, not at all! yes, i know people who are cheap & super cheap! i'll tell you about 1 person: he has a very good paying job & he takes his g.f. out to eat cheap diners or ruby tuesday's, applebee's, friendly's, etc. now, guess what? that same guy once gave a BROKEN milk bottle to someone for a birthday present!!!!! holy heavens!!!! i have had girlfriends who were cheap. they would by me something low in cost like a thermometer, picture, frame, vase or a candy compote made from plastic or crap glass that was junk when it was made! & i would kindly say, thanks, but i have something similar, give it to someone who needs it. sometimes i would throw it out & then if she came over wanting to see it i would say, well, i was cleaning house & it fell & broke. i despise cheap gifts. a few times i would tell my g.f. at the time: " that's cheap, no one wants that garbage. it's not worth the trip to the store to buy it".

If someone doesn't have a job or on a low income, they have a reason/excuse.

That's a good point and it brings to mind other reasons people mention what they pay for something.

I can't speak for your friend.
Here a a few reasons I noticed that some will mention the low cost of something.

A. Their preacher preached on
I Timothy 6. They are expressing their contentment with modest means.

5Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

B. They are expressing modesty in their speech with that which comes from their heart. The purchase was certainly something they liked and enjoy enough to wear. However, the cost was insignificant. It was in line with another verse in I Timothy...
9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

C. Some People don't wish to brag, but also don't want to express dishonesty of mean$. They do not glory in the riches or brag of what they spend on self.
After all, every good gift and every perfect gift is from the Lord and comes down from the Father of lights. James

I've suffered serious injuries to my health, acute and chronic.
I Avoid drug pushers on the streets as well as those in palaces/hospitals that masquerade as "health" and "care".
The Lord in my Great Physician! Praise to God! He alone deserves all the credit despite the fact that rubs the fur of some the wrong way.
I spoke to Him about needing quality supplements that are from the things that He made.
His local people are not giving at all for the labor I've provided them since last Fall.
The Lord showed His love by putting the exact supplements on clearance $2-$3 each in my path exactly when I went to the grocery store. They were fresh and highest quality they stock.
I feel so much better now as the brain fog is lifting, I'm finally getting improved sleep, my heart challenges are improving, inflammation has dropped!
There are not any drugs in the world that do all that! Plus there are no toxic effects. Jesus made what went into those, the Holy Spirit provided me knowledge of what I needed and the Father provided them at an affordable price!

Why would I bring this up?
...So others may benefit by growing in faith in the Lord rather than in idols they trust their lives to.

..So we all may share in the knowledge that He provides His servant, not only in the word but also in His physical creation.

....So that God gets paid the respect due to Him alone.

hmm ok thats good for you. Supplements can be expensive.

I wonder if my friend was thinking 'God Blessed me' with something she could afford to buy.

I went on Temu and I managed to find some things (that were cheap) but things I really wanted/needed that I couldn't find anywhere else. I wonder if I should thank God for Temu. Well I don't NEED the items in a way, like my friends cheap jewellery, they were just something that were a bit of a treat for me.

If someone else noticed them and said they were nice, where did I get them from? Then I might say online/Temu. If they asked how much they were I might say the price.

But if they just said I like (whatever item) maybe I would say yeah they are nice I like them too. I wouldn't assume that someone who was admiring whatever I had was necessarily coveting whatever I had and wanted to buy it. Cos If I said $2 and do you want it cos I can give it to you for $1 I'd be selling it.

Sorry I sometimes read too much into what people say, when they give me prices on things. I guess people boast about for different reasons. If someone gave me jewellery I would probably say, yes its nice it was a gift from so and so, I suppose I bought it myself I'd be honest and say, but maybe I wouldn't say how much it cost. IDK that's just me. If was a bargain maybe 'I got it for $X!'

If was a find, I'd just say where I found/bought it from, cos mostly its something rare that someone hasn't seen before. I have a friend that always remarks whenever I wear anything different, 'is that new?' and I'm like no...its just you haven't seen me wear it before. IDK I'm not a really 'covety' person who notices these things. EG some people always have new things so if I remarked 'wow I like...is that new' they'd probably think I was idiot.

Maybe they think I'm a child who can't afford things IDK... I've worked in op shops. I've worked in retail. Things are just things. If you need something you buy it, if you like something and can afford, you'd buy it, if you wanted something but can't afford, you save up for it or do afterpay or something.

If it was a gift, then maybe you could boast. Maybe in the back of people's minds they think 'how could they afford? Did they steal it?'

But I had been unable to find one, not that I'd really been hunting, but just thought it would be nice. I mentioned to my sister.

Well the day after I went to see a friend, who invited me to a cafe with another mutual friend. I hadn't seen her for a little while and never mentioned I was looking for small tea pot. We were having a little prayer meeting.

Well she came to cafe and had a gift for me...and guess what it was a small teapot with four cups and tea holder! She said another friend gave to her but she couldn't use so she thought I would like it.

But I hadn't told her I wanted one. And she doesn't know my sister.
So yea that was a gift from God!

I haven't used it yet (cos its for chinese tea) but I will def use it when she comes around for afternoon tea. (and no, I don't know how much it cost..but it didn't look cheap, was in a nice box, so I don't think it came straight from an op shop or anything)

I just have one ex-wife. Lost the second to premature death (11 years, 2 months). Working on the third wife, (11 years, 3 months) currently. This will be my last wife.

Shortly after the divorce (6 1/2 years) the X asked for the shirt off my back. I declined.

One weekend, I agreed to watch the dog which she had sole custody. Monday morning, she asked when I was going to return the dog. I told her that I will return the dog when hell freezes over. Had that faithful little pooch for years. Man's best friend for sure. Heartbroken when he died.

I'm not sure about your second....had you ever worn the three shirts and two pairs of shorts? Not sure any ex-wife would want their ex-husbands clothes they'd worn....

Why are your exes giving you gifts or regifting themselves gifts they bought you?? Make it make sense.

Clothes well it's always a hassle buying clothes and finding ones that fit. And that's just for yourself, I don't know about buying for others. How do you know they'll like your choices if they aren't there shopping with you? That said I've always accepted new clothes that people have gifted me...then if they don't fit or not my style, I can just take to op shop. I can refuse them if they have already been worn.
