I just have one ex-wife. Lost the second to premature death (11 years, 2 months). Working on the third wife, (11 years, 3 months) currently. This will be my last wife.

Shortly after the divorce (6 1/2 years) the X asked for the shirt off my back. I declined.

One weekend, I agreed to watch the dog which she had sole custody. Monday morning, she asked when I was going to return the dog. I told her that I will return the dog when hell freezes over. Had that faithful little pooch for years. Man's best friend for sure. Heartbroken when he died.
I don't really understand divorce or custody battles.
There have been divorces in my family (aunts/uncles/cousins) but I don't know the ins and outs of it. I just know they can't bear living together. I don't know what happens to their STUFF.

My dog died almost two years ago. I miss him more than both. That old boy followed me everywhere around the house. I don’t expect to ever again have a friend as faithful.

huh
The first was maybe being economical?
I'm not sure about your second....had you ever worn the three shirts and two pairs of shorts? Not sure any ex-wife would want their ex-husbands clothes they'd worn....

Why are your exes giving you gifts or regifting themselves gifts they bought you?? Make it make sense.

Clothes well it's always a hassle buying clothes and finding ones that fit. And that's just for yourself, I don't know about buying for others. How do you know they'll like your choices if they aren't there shopping with you? That said I've always accepted new clothes that people have gifted me...then if they don't fit or not my style, I can just take to op shop. I can refuse them if they have already been worn.
They coukd both squeeze a nickel until the Indian was riding the buffalo.

I had worn the clothes. My lawyer said at least she didn’t want any body parts to go with them. I still said no.

That sounds so...petty.
I just don't know why someone would do that. Was she planning on selling the clothes. Or making quilts out of them or something. She didn't have enough clothes/fabric of her own?

How does someone get custody of pets?
I mean, I heard children might get to choose which parent they live with...but the pets?

A settlement is just an amount of money from --the sale of the house? I don't understand, someone please explain. Also, what happens to the bed, or the wedding rings when couples divorce. Do they just get sold off too...? Or do they give it back to whoever bought it. What if you both bought the bed, and house. IDK
I don't know if couples go halves on wedding rings, presumably they exchange rings, so maybe they just get back what they gave.
I shop at op shops but I don't ever see wedding gowns in them. Wouldn't it be bad luck to have your gown second hand?

So I wonder what happens to them, if they are not rented.

Well the friend in the OP, was separated, and then her ex died, so ?! She wasn't well off. I don't think she had anything to her name. Actually I did ask, she didn't really want to talk about it, (which is understandable, but then I don't understand where she's coming from when she does things that I think are strange and I can't explain or figure out why she does them). I asked something like, when she split up, what did she do with her wedding ring...I mean what do you do if your marriage breaks up? You can't wear your ring anymore.
Obviously she took it off her finger, but I don't know if she kept it, chucked it away, gave it back to her ex, or sold it.

So anyway, there might be something behind the whole 'it only cost $2' thing in the OP.

Yea I am racking my brain trying to figure out why an ex-wife would want her ex-husbands clothes and what they do with them. AFAIK, wives generally don't wear their husbands clothes or share clothing.

....was it because ....they want to leave you cold and naked? But you can just buy new clothes can't you?

Petty is as petty does. She had plenty of her own. My lawyer said she was perhaps the most disturbing person he had ever encountered.

huh ok
When people do things that don't make sense, sometimes I ask about it on here, to see whether its crazy, or maybe I'm the crazy one who doesn't understand people.

I don't know what's normal or not. My sister presumably knows best, and does things that are normal, but I soon learned that she doesn't always...and that people lie. Like you ask them something, and they might just not answer, or the answer they give you is a lie.

Also, I worked in retail. Usually the price tags are on the item. I don't really need to ask how much things cost, and if I see something that looks nice on someone I'm not usually interested in buying it, if I was, I'd probably just look online. Anyway, some places things are always cheap, others you really need to bargain or ask to get a discount, but generally you get what you pay for.

I don't go around estimating the prices on the clothes or jewellery of all of my friends or strangers. Maybe if I was a fashion/catalogue model I'd say but otherwise it's not anyones business, how much I paid for this or that or if it was given to me free or I won it. I don't assume that whatever people have is stolen, borrowed or begged. They must have got it from somewhere if they hadn't made it themselves. Some people do make their own jewellery.

All that glitters ..is not gold. Still it's fun to wear the glitter every now and again. Except for all the damage it does to marine life...

That was one good looking doggy for sure. Mine was a little chihuahua. His name was Yankee. Got him when he was a pup. Entire family loved him. When Yankee sees his daddy later on his little tail will be wagging. We'll have a good time then.

Marry in haste - repent in leisure. My mind obviously was not right when I got married the first time at the age of 22. She was a nasty person who treated me like a doormat. I consider the divorce to be a gift from God. That was a most troubled period of my life.

So the clothing… when I first met her, she still had a pile of her ex husbands clothes. The story behind it I can only imagine.

Marriage is meant to happen once. When it “dissolves”, it is a sordid affair that brings out the worst of both.

Normal is now pretty much everything you just mentioned.

My first ex wife treated me like a bank. My second treated me like a napkin.

That's awful. Why do women/wives do this?

My mum worked, she always had some money of her own (mostly saved so we children could have an education). She bought or made her own clothes. She had her own bank account.

My dad would give her some money when she went shopping but that was to buy food for all of us.

I can't imagine, if they'd ever divorced, why she would have wanted my dad 's clothes. He had to have something to wear.

One thing she did though, if I was discarding clothes, she might have kept some to wear, but only because she could fit into them! And she wouldn't have worn my brother's clothes.
