For kids, teens and young twenties it seems to be mostly online video games with friends. Also facebook, Snapchat and etc. What do people do for fun these days? I really want to know.
If you can afford the gas, I've got a spare bedroom.I would if I could.
Could be worse. Last night for fun I was sneaking around Detroit of the near future, knocking people out and hacking doors and computers. What do we do for fun???
We w*rk and pay our taxes and be good little boys and girls!![]()

Adults these days are chasing a mix of screen-free "analog" fun, real-world connections, creativity, and low-key adventures—a reaction to constant digital overload, post-pandemic shifts, and a desire for balance. Many are leaning into hobbies that feel productive, relaxing, or social without being exhausting.
Big Trends Right Now (2025–2026)
- Analog/"Grandma" hobbies are exploding: People are ditching doomscrolling for knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, crosswords, puzzles, watercolors, and other tactile crafts. These provide calm, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment
Everyday Realities A lot of adults mix:
- Outdoor and active stuff: Hiking, camping (with glamping vibes or festival tie-ins), birdwatching, gardening, trail walks, pickleball/padel, golf simulators, or just easy nature time. Emphasis on mindful, accessible play rather than extreme sports.
- Creative and skill-building: Pottery, painting/drawing, photography, cooking/baking classes, woodworking/DIY, journaling, learning an instrument, or creative writing. Many treat these as therapy or "hobby girl era" resets.
- Social and experiential: Book clubs, game nights, murder mystery parties, themed adult gatherings, or spontaneous day trips/adventures with friends. Immersive events and "quiet luxury" vibes are popular.
- Unplugging and wellness: Yoga, meditation, sauna sessions, or even paid walking groups. There's growing interest in ditching phones for real-life experiences like festivals or local events.
Travel, fitness classes, and niche interests (like pickling, songwriting, or upcycling) also pop up often. Many are blending hobbies with self-improvement—learning a language, home improvement, or something that sparks joy without pressure.
- Low-effort nights: Streaming with friends, board games, or home cooking experiments.
- Weekend escapes: Road trips, markets, museums, live music, or sports.
- Solo recharge: Reading, podcasts while walking, or tinkering on personal projects.
- Community: Meetups, volunteering, or classes that double as social hours.
It varies hugely by person—some are grinding side hustles that feel like fun, others are all about rest and recovery. The common thread? Activities that feel intentional and human in a high-tech world. What kind of vibe are you going for—active, creative, social, chill? I can suggest specifics.
Yes I'm looking for something new. I've lost interest in all my hobbies right now except karaoke but I can only do it once every few days because I don't have the energy to do it most days. I use the Smule app on my iphone. No equipment needed but I have a blue yeti mic that I use with it. I can only do solo stuff that's free or very cheap. Thanks for the suggestions! Are you looking for ideas?
free Karaoke, free walking groups, paint by numbers are mine. And reading (library) books of course. Also wordsearches. Gardening.
I don't do a lot of expensive things for fun, maybe the funnest (?) is Karaoke. Someone hooks up youtube to a big tv, with speaker and microphone, and you away. I mean you need a bit of tech to do that, but it's basic and it's not like it costs per song or anything.
Cards and jigsaw puzzles. Are you looking for group activities or solo?
I'm kind of over catch ups over coffee or whatever. I think they are fun if you live in a city and there's new places to check out maybe once. a month with friends, but I don't do that for the sake of it. Plus it can be expensive for what you get. I can make a hot drink at home or get takeaway. I really don't like the whole regular church coffee groups thing. My church friend agrees and just says it's a gossip session.
Could be worse. Last night for fun I was sneaking around Detroit of the near future, knocking people out and hacking doors and computers.
I mean it would have been much easier to just kill them instead of knocking them out. But it would not have been nearly as much fun as sneaking around.
Yes it was a video game.
Thanks but I don't have the patience for puzzles. I have some gardening I need to do if you can call it that. Have to remove 3 tall weeds, clean out some overgrowth in a small garden island, and trim a 30' magnolia tree. I trimmed a 20' tree about 2 weeks ago. I don't look forward to it though. I think I'll just do karaoke for now and maybe learn some new songs on guitar.Jigsaw puzzles you can get from op shop/thrift store for very cheap, just a few dollars. ''That will keep you occupied. just need a large flat surface, put a mat or cardboard underneath so you can move it without losing all your pieces. I do 1000 piece puzzles and just have them there, completing them is fun, then take a photo afterward. I know its can be a bit of a nanna hobby but I like it, and my dad likes them too we do it together.
