Huh?! Obviously repentance means turning away from sin and toward God when speaking of salvation!
What other options do you have in mind/did you discover in your search/study?
You make a point that is worth noting.

"when speaking of salvation!"

One major rule of Bible interpretation is context.
When a college pastor name Dave took me to task on my questioning his definition of this word Repent/repentance, he handed me his sermon notes and told me to study them.

I studied every sentence and verse he used to try to teach works salvation. I saw that he failed to actually define the word of his word study according to the Bible and the dictionaries. On top of that, the context of the verses he picked were incorrect.
Who was I too question the doctrine of a graduate with an M.Div. who was ordained to be the college pastor of a ministry for a Baptist church?

I'm glad he rebuked me because I was more interested in getting at the truth of God than to be in agreement with Dave or with any other preacher.
I got motivated to mark his notes as I studied and do an exhaustive word study on the many uses beyond, that took quite some time. However it was worth every hour..

I don't really understand why it's called 'Pride' I suppose it's because, they (those who identify as LBQTA) don't want to feel ashamed of who they are or what they do.
The other thing they say is 'love is love' .

I was reading a book about the Topp Twins, two lesbian singing twin sisters comedy country music stars from NZ. One of the twins, Jools, (Julia) died recently of cancer. Actually both of them had breast cancer, one is still living with it.

Their parents were traditional kiwi farmers who didn't want their children to be tied to the farm. They have an older brother who is also gay. Their parents accepted their children and didn't punish them for being gay or lesbian. So they don't see it as anything wrong, and said they were shocked when they encountered discrimination and hatred for their being lesbians. One of them got married, to another lady who'd already been married before and had two sons from her previous relationship (not sure if she was widowed or the husband left/divorced)

They cross dressed as well as wore female clothes and they sent themselves up as comedy stars (Camp Leader and Camp Mother, Ken and Ken), got to meet the King, had a documentary that was award winning, got to see the world outside the family farm, actually had a pretty good life. They even recorded childrens songs and made a picture book (I had it in my school library)

In their early years at age 7 both were sent to Sunday school, it was a Presbyterian church. They both got bored of it and didn't believe it. They hated going, they had to dress up and it interfered with their weekend outdoor activities. They learned prayers, coloured in pictures of Jesus and had exams. They liked the singing part. They wrote that 'the one thing we kept up with from out stint in Sunday School was singing the hymns we learnt'

That was the start of their singing career. Their aunt and uncle came to visit, heard them sing, and asked them if they'd like to sing at their cousins 21st.

So...what would you tell Lynda, who is now, aged 68 and living with breast cancer and her partner Donna?
so ....would you just tell Lynda and her partner 'stop being lesbian'?

or pretend you're not.

In the end...they devoted their lives to singing, entertaining others, and being kind. Lynda looks after horses where she now lives in a sort of semi-retirement.

They aren't Christian churchgoers or anything like that. I imagine if they were, it would have been a conflict to them, and I'm supposing Jesus would help them, but I don't know that he changes people that much, and if they are attracted to the same-sex I don't know if that ever goes away, marriage doesn't make it any better, like everyone who's married they would need to practice self control and try to stay faithful to their partner.

I mean women who get breast cancer are all types it doesn't discriminate between those who are righteous and those who aren't right? Women who get mastectomies and hysterectomies for health reasons aren't trying to make themselves male.

And Texas is being taken over by Islam. Not a coincidence.
I agree. Salvation is a free gift. Anyone who receives Christ as Lord and Savior is spiritually reborn of the Holy Spirit and has eternal life. I have met many Christians who claim to be bi-sexual or gay. All I know is that God is not mocked and if one sows to the flesh one will of the flesh reap corruption, whether one is a truly born again Christian or not.

Who is the first person to repent?

Genesis 6: 6
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Do we see God "turn from His sins?"
Do we see God "turning to God?"
If we take the hundreds of times we've heard preachers use their definition for this word as gospel truth, we would have to commit blasphemy and teach confusion wouldn't we?
That's why I encourage Christians who read their Bibles to do personal word studies with an open mind willing to repent/change their minds if they learn that their assumptions are untrue. It's the way we learn.

We also see that Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
What sins did he turn from in order to be saved?
He was listed in the NT faith chapter Hebrews 11.

Uh, did you notice that I said "when speaking of salvation"?

Instead of citing Gen. 6:6, you should have shared your interpretation of Matt. 4:17.
I never heard any preacher say it means anything other than repent of sin and believe in Jesus.

We all have our cross to bear, so gay Christians should be celibate as they seek a cure.

I was distinguishing the actual definition from the assumed context in my last post. The term is not extremely broad. It usually means change of mind. The context, who is doing the speaking, to whom it is addressed and why will give clarity to the verses.

I haven't read all the posts but for me the answer is the same for all sins.

Love the sinner but hate the sin.

Hate the LGBTQ+pride sin.
But love the person with a Godly, Christ like love.

What is the cure I wonder.
Should straight Christians also be celibate?
Is birth control a cure? Circumcision?
What about those born intersex.
Are infertile/barren women right in God's eyes? After all, they can't bear children. Are cesarean sections ok? How about IVF? You are buying a baby through artificial insemination from a donor. It's very expensive...

What about male husbands who sodomise their female wives and think it's ok?

Lord Jesus came to set the captives free. He is the Deliverer. Sin is sin.

God ordained sex in the beginning, before man's fall. It is not evil. It is intended for the marriage relationship. God calls same sex acts an abomination. So no, straight Christians should marry. Those believers bound by homosexuality should seek deliverance.

No one can help how they were born. My wife was unable to have children. God gave her a word, "Rejoice O barren woman......"
Isaiah 54:1 She has been a great help to many throughout her life. She still is. Including me.

As for cesarean sections, childbirth is inherently risky. If the medical advice advises a cesarean, I would advise to go with it. IVF? Between the believer and God.

No forced sex act is acceptable. That's not love, it's lust.

Even those who travel a lot can be married. It is a real blessing to have a wife with you.

I think God thought it was ok to have polygamous relationships too, after all, Jacob married TWO wives and he also had children with his wives maids.

Jesus never married, so, it's unclear whether he was straight, or...not straight. Also same sex couples can now marry.

Every one else just fornicates, that's the default for those who can't afford to marry. Even in the NT, there had to be a special rule for new believers to abstain from fornication, as everyone was as a way of life.

Captain Cook had a wife, but he left her at home. I think he only saw her once every few years or so, and she was left to raise children on her own. Well that's what I read anyway.

Captain Cook had a crew with him, and a cat I think.

Adam and Eve were naked in the beginning and not ashamed

But when they saw they were naked, they were ashamed.

Except if you are proud, then it's ok to be naked and show off your body right? Isn't that what everyone is doing these days? Even straight people do this. So...??

Anthony Bourdain also had ..two wives and didn't take either of them on his travels. It ruined his marriages. I don't think wives travel well esp if they have children to look after, but I think at a certain age, children are easy if you can carry them and most under 5s can get to places for free, esp if sitting on your lap.

So yea, depends. Just mentioning Bourdain because he was a famed world traveller. Sad end though

If people have drug issues they need a cure. Pornography is a sin that needs a cure, and pride is a sin, love of worldly things like money and gold, can be a sin.

There are many sins that people need to overcome. The first step is to admit that you have a problem or sin.

Once you acknowledge your sin and acknowledge your need to be freed from this sin you must repent and go to Jesus.

Act 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Repent
Look up repent in the New Testament.
Repent = metanoeō
Thayer Definition:

to change one's mind, i.e. to repent
to change one's mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins

Amen. God loves Satan, but hates evil (Matt. 5:44&48, Psa. 97:10, Pro. 8:13, Amos 5:15, Rom. 12:9).
