Hey Everyone,

For anyone who might get a rise out of the title, no, I am not actually going to steal a yellow dog, or, for that matter, a dog of ANY color. Rather, I'm currently with a friend I've known since I was 5 years old, trying to help her family with some things where I can.

The family dog is a yellow lab mix who looks something like this:

View attachment 290231

and is most definitely my friend's dog (she is his absolute favorite human.) "Woovy" follows my friend "Chloe" around where ever she goes, and even if he's lying near someone else, he will get up and zoom off the minute he thinks she is going somewhere or has come home. (For the sake of both my friend's privacy AND the dog's privacy, all names in this story have been changed!) (Woovy is a family nickname for said dog, but not the dog's actual name!)

With the family's permission, I have been regularly sharing my food with Woovy, leading him to hang around my place at the table often, and so I keep joking with Chloe that I am going to steal her dog (or at least, his affections.) The other day when she had to leave, he came downstairs and plopped himself right down next to me right away (which had never happened before!) He's come looking for me at other times, but never right away, and he rarely goes downstairs (usually only if Chloe is going there, too.)

I was thrilled, and sent Chloe a picture of him chilling next to me saying, "I have stolen your yellow dog!"

She texted back, "You DO know you're the only person in the house at this moment, right?"

WHY did she have to steal my thunder like that?!!

I told her that didn't count!! :oops::cool::ROFL:

I don't have much time left with them, but I am still working on "stealing the yellow dog," or at least, climbing the ranks to becoming Woovy's 2nd favorite human in the household!!

So... What do you think my chances are here?! (Please cut me some slack -- I'm very inexperienced with dogs and am learning as I go!!) :D

I would also like to know what your experience has been like with your own pets or those of your friends, family, significant other, etc., such as:

* In your household, which human did the family pet favor most, and why?

* If you weren't the favorite, did you ever wish to be? Was there ever a time when you were able to claw your way to the top spot in your furry friend's little heart? What were the reasons that your pet went from favoring one human to another?

* Have you ever become the favorite human of someone else's pet? (Such as a significant other's pet who wound up liking you more?) What happened if the friendship, relationship, etc. wound up not working out? Were you ever able to see that pet again? (I've known of some cases where the pet was given to the other person.)

* Were you ever tired of not being the favorite human of a pet (whether yours or someone else's,) and so you adopted another one hoping it would bond to you? What happened?

* What are your best tips for bonding with a pet? (Give me some hope here -- maybe I can sneak in a few of these moves at the last minute!) :p

I am also going to post a poll asking what my chances are of winning Woovy's heart! Be sure to come back and post your answers in the thread (and please make them as funny and/or heartwarming as possible, as I'm sure my Chloe will also find the answers to be quite entertaining!) :D

This is just meant to be a lighthearted, fun-to-read thread (although serious answers of pet/human bonding is most welcome!) Just for fun, answers will be multiple choice and publicly visible so we can see what others have to say! :)

But alas...

I must now to back to the very serious business of wooing Woovy's 4-footed little heart.
you are a riot & not a quiet riot!!!!

While even I have to reluctantly admit that my chances aren't looking too good, I appreciate all the honest answers! :D 🐶🦴

Back in the day we had a border collie mix girl. My Uncle who lives next door got a girl dog who looked like a cross between a rat terrier and a box of lemons.

So we wound up with two dogs and Uncle Fred wound up with none. Naturally.

Luckily I wasn't drinking anything as I read this. The resulting snort would have been a mess.

And then I read your posts.
Really @seoulsearch I think you'll have a better chance stealing Clifford the Big Red Dog than you will Woovy.

It's funny that you mention Clifford the Big Red Dog.

While I did not watch the show, my friend's kids did, and one of Woovy's favorite plush pals is Cleo, the purple poodle (?) from that particular show.

I keep telling my friend that it would be so cute if Woovy and Cleo got together and made adorable purple labradoodles!!

Just imagine these, but in a lush lavender color!! :D

@Magenta - Magenta is a vibrant, purplish-red or deep pink color. Scientifically, it is unique because it does not exist as a single wavelength of light on the visible spectrum; instead, your brain creates it as a visual placeholder when your eyes detect red and blue/violet light simultaneously.

Huh, that's what AI says. But I but Magenta colored pups would be a BIG seller!!

Woovy doesn't always like his belly rubbed, but in the few times he's flipped over, I have done my best to oblige.

Unfortunately, it hasn't made as big of an impression as I was hoping.

But you have to have the fingernails to do it. lol I've always had long nails, just natural, and I tend to make friends in the doggie world pretty fast. "Scritches" on the lower back tend to work best. And if they aren't too shy, on the upper chest.

The moral of this zany story is that these are the kinds of "rivalries" and things I invent -- to make my friends laugh.

For whatever reason, every single one of my good friends is going through a series of nail-biting trials right now, and I truly feel God is calling me to try to help where I can -- and to try to make them laugh.

In fact, before I came out here, I prayed that God would make me funny enough and guide my discernment (of when to make a joke, or when to hold back) so I could give my friends some relief.

I can't say my jokes always land, or even make sense (just ask my CC friends!! 😁,) but there is no greater joy to me than hearing people experience a moment of escape with a good laugh. 🥰

I needed a little levity in my day and stealing a yellow dog caught my eye and I had to see what it was about. lol

I have to admit, I am somewhat disappointed.

I was expecting at least one person, not anyone in particular, but at least one, to read the title only and come bursting through the CC door to chastise the very thought of stealing something.

Bonus points would then be awarded if they then went further to preach about the evils of stealing an animal, and triple bonus points if they went the extra mile to slap out condemnation for colorizing the dog.

I usually get at least one response like that in my threads (someone who answers going by title only,) so I must be slacking. Guess I have to up my game.

Half the entertainment value of writing threads is seeing who doesn't bother to read the original post but REALLY HAS SOMETHING TO SAY about the topic anyway!

My friend Chloe is a redhead, and of course I'm Asian... So one thing we have in common is the slurry of stereotypes we've been swimming through since childhood and still hear as adults. My general coping mechanism has always been to try to find the humor in such things. I've always wanted red hair, currently have 3 redheaded friends, and my then-husband actually left me for a halfway redhead (technically strawberry blonde.)

I always say God does this just to torture me to see if I will fall to the sin of coveting red hair! I always say I qualify as a ginger because I have no soul! 😆

Another joke I've been running with is that Woovy is a Yellow Dog, and me, being Asian, am Chloe's Yellow Friend, and that I am trying my best to be her #1 Yellow.

And guess who's winning (supposedly by a long shot) in THIS category, too??? (Quick hint, it's not me.)

I guess I have to get used to coming in second -- first, as Woovy's Second Favorite Person (for now,) and now as Chloe's Second Favorite Yellow Companion. 😢

No wonder I write these threads!

I obviously need a little sympathy.:cautious:

* In your household, which human did the family pet favor most, and why?

We've had a lot of dogs down through the years. As I got older they mainly favored me because they slept up in the bed with me or at least in the room. But I had several dogs that my father taught to "hug" him and they would only do it with him.

Have you ever become the favorite human of someone else's pet?

There was a lady who worked at our local Wal-Mart and she had a service dog. Of course the dog was use to people and because it was a service dog I never gave it special attention. But every time I would walk by it would take to following me. She and her owner worked in the garden section of the store. One day hubby and I were passing through and she started following me into the bigger part of the store. I told her she had to go back. I was worried the owner was thinking I was doing something to make the dog follow me.

* Were you ever tired of not being the favorite human of a pet (whether yours or someone else's,) and so you adopted another one hoping it would bond to you? What happened?

Hey, don't sell yourself short! Being number two isn't so bad, it means you're number one when number one isn't around! Hubby is a solid number two when I'm not around. Our German Shepard loves him. Unless Grandmom comes, then he slips to number three. But she takes her out for McDonalds breakfast and honestly even I can't compete with that!

For many years, I tried to bond with my pet rock, but every attempt failed miserably. I finally had to accept the fact that it had a heart of stone.

hmm no

What happened? Have you gotten caught? Been charged with dog theft?

When I think of yellow dogs, Odie comes to mind.

Does Woovy smell like a banana or a pineapple?
hmm no

When I think of yellow dogs, Odie comes to mind.

Woovy did not smell like banana or pineapple, but that was one of the great things about him -- he didn't really have a smell at all. (Oh, and when it comes to yellow dogs, my Dad likes Odie as well!)

I was telling Chloe, another reason I liked Woovy is because he's what I call a "dry" dog -- he didn't slobber, his fur didn't have a "greasy" feel (I've noticed some pets seem to have more natural oils than others -- you can thoroughly pet Woovy but your hands don't feel "coated" afterwards,) and he doesn't have much of a smell (as opposed to some pets that have very strong odors.)

And so, as an exciting conclusion to the story... 😆

In the last few days I was there, Woovy was coming to find me much sooner when Chloe was gone. And the last time I sent Chloe a picture in which Woovy and I were just chilling, she said, "You just keep sending me the same pictures you sent before!"

And I was like, "Nope! Look closely. In this picture, I'm wearing pants!" (I was wearing shorts in the other pictures!)

And even Chloe's daughter (my honorary niece) announced, "Woovy obviously likes you!"

Ahem. I'll take my victory lap now!!

1781825940144.png

Alas.

I am now home, trying to catch up on sleep, and real life is calling (someone ever so thoughtfully swiped my car in the parking lot while I was gone -- grrr!!) Praise God I'll just need to get some rust prevention spray on the nicked spots and the car still runs fine, but still, grrr!

Along with various other aspects of adulthood I need to attend to -- bah humbug.

And I texted Chloe that now I have to do all this WITHOUT a magic redhead and WITHOUT a yellow dog to calm my nerves!!!

Le sigh.

I'll be fine.

Really.
