Job was not implying that he deserved to be saved.
Job was recounting the time prior to his current dilemma brought upon him by satan. God did not inflict Job with sore boils from the soles of his feet to the top of his head (Job 2:7). God did not kill Job's children ... nor did God destroy Job's servants, herds and flocks (Job 1).
When Job was in good health, he readily helped out "the poor that cried, the fatherless, and him that had none to help him" ... You, Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar, Elihu all believe Job was "bragging about his goodness" when all Job did was respond to the false claims of Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar.
There was no sin committed by Job for which he was being chastened by God. Everything Job suffered was a direct result of satan doing what satan does ... we know satan "walketh about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour" because God has revealed that to us. We know satan's ministry is to "steal, and to kill, and to destroy" because God has revealed that to us. Job and his friends knew nothing about satan.
vs 17 – you and I know it was not God who broke Job ... it was not God who multiplied Job's wounds without cause. It was satan who attacked Job ... not God.
And it's very interesting you ignore verses between 17 and 22.
In vs 20, Job claimed "If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse" ... but you can't consider those verses because they reveal your claim that Job said "he deserved to be saved" or that Job was "bragging about his goodness" is fraught with error.
Again, you ignore Job's response in vss 3-5.
And the verses between Job 40:8 and Job 40:14 have been explained to you more than a few times, but you prefer to hold to your error.
I went through these verses from Job 40 with you.
Here is what I said then and hope/pray you will consider the explanation so that you come to a more accurate knowledge of God's Word:
Your question has been answered ... and you have not rebutted ... instead you just disregard and keep asking your question over and over. Do you want to understand the Book of Job? ... then consider the information you have been given.
8 Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
9 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10 Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
The point behind these verses is -
vs 8 – if Job could disannul the judgment of God ... or condemn God ...
vs 9 – if Job had an arm like God ... or if Job could thunder with a voice like God ...
vs 10 – if Job could deck himself with majesty and excellency and array himself with glory and beauty as God is in His majesty, excellence, glory and beauty ...
vs 11 – if Job could abase with a glance every one that is proud ...
vs 12 – if Job could bring low the proud and tread down the wicked ...
vs 13 – if Job could hide them in the dust never to arise ...
vs 14 – if Job could do the things described in the above verses, then God would confess that Job could save himself.
What God revealed to Job here (as well as what is stated from chapter 38 to 41) is that that God's ways are so far above man's ways, and it is God alone Who is the Creator of all, Who knows the ways of all creation, Who is more powerful than the most powerful creature.
Both God and Job knew Job could do none of those things. Both God and Job knew Job could not save himself. Job relied upon the same Redeemer you and I rely upon.
