This is a question for the more well-known members, or admins, but anyone else as well.

If you are going use a bot such as 'Edyth' to post a message here in the 'new members' forum promoting the paid chatroom, could you please be open about it? Instead of pretending that 'Edyth' is a real person and trying to convince people to pay and join the chatroom?

Or am I wrong?
Happy to be corrected.

Hi Shanice glad you are joining the CC fellowship, welcome😊 Just to clarify are you talking about the live chatrooms here? Have fun browsing the Forums, God bless you and your endeavors🙏🙌

Im not a bot. The chat members know, I am active in their with voice chat as well, I have texted some members. I am a real person, but you are welcome to think as you wish. I was just merely pointing out a fact that surprised me. I had been only using the chat, then came on the web page and was surprised to see how many people use the page but not the chat. Nobody is forcing anyone to use anything or pay for anything. But you are welcome to your "opinion" :)

I'm not sure what made you think @Edyth is a bot.

I first met her in the live chat rooms, while she was on the mic. She has an awesome (REAL) voice, and is very interesting to listen to.

I'm not sure if your intent is to make friends or not @BrokenPaul, but accusing real people of being bots without having any solid proof to offer is not going to help that process.

I've promoted the live chat in m posts as well, and you can ask several people here if I'm a bot, especially the ones who've met me in person. (I can provide a list of members if you wish.)

For admin and other members -- is the entire live chat now paid? I don't know, because I was paying before everything may have become paid.

And people don't realize it, but it's the behavior of others that often cause such things to become paid.

Live chat used to be free for all, but there were problems with people coming in and doing things to insult other members, and/or doing things that should not be done -- and these were live people doing this, not bots, as some appeared on camera.

It's similar to why threads here now need to be approved. Some people were coming here to post inappropriate thread titles just to see what they could get away with, so now threads need mod approval.

Paid memberships certainly doesn't cut out all the trouble -- but people who come here just to stir up contention might not be willing to pay $25 (I believe that's the membership fee now?) to do it.

If we could get everyone to simply behave, some things might not have to have a cost.

But unfortunately, we all know that's not going to happen, so the admin has to do some unpopular things to try to at least cut it down.

@BrokenPaul -- I can give you another example of why a paid membership can help.

Years ago when the live chat was a whole lot busier (because there were fewer messaging places then,) a lot of men from certain countries would come in and hit on the women.

I don't know how it was for the men, but as a woman, you'd be sitting in, trying to listen to chat, and message boxes from men awkwardly trying to say, "Hey, baby!" would keep popping up. And they'd almost always be from very particular countries.

I don't want to insult any other country, but I was told that in some of these places, men can't really approach women in public, or are allowed as many flings as they can rack up before they marry, so they flood the online chatrooms instead. It was pretty much a hallmark in live chats, and no one was happy about it.

Now of course, anyone from anywhere can come in and start trying to flirt with someone, but this used to happen in droves.

Since the live chats have been back, I haven't noticed this happening nearly as much.

Yeah, the chat traffic isn't as busy as it used to be, and sure, a few stragglers come in and still try -- but it hasn't been nearly as rampant as it used to be -- and I'm very thankful for that.

P.S. @Edyth -- I'm very sorry someone has accused you of being a bot. We've been getting a lot of that lately. I understand people are afraid of AI, but the people accusing everyone else of being bots are almost starting to sound like bots themselves!

I sure hope it won't discourage you from participating here, and welcome to CC! :)

Oh I am really sorry, please forgive me for jumping on you and making the wrong assumption! I have no excuses. Welcome to the forum and I am sorry it did not have the ideal start that you would have hoped.

Oh thank you very much for coming along and correcting and enlightening me seoulsearch. I really appreciated the humbling. It seemed odd to me that Edyth had been a member for a month without posting anything, then her first post is inviting to the live chat. That seemed a bit unhuman to me. I came here for a conventional forum and did not want live chat although I saw an advertisement for live chat it when I first joined this forum. Thanks again.

Thank you seoulsearch, I did consider paying for a membership just so I could DM anyone if I needed to. As for live chat, I met my wife on live chat 28 years ago and I do not want to repeat that type of thing, I'm not looking for a relationship.

Hi @BrokenPaul,

Thank you for being so open to what I had to say -- major kudos to you for that!

I think all of this has been a matter of being new and not knowing how things work. @Edyth is new too and I didn't want her to feel chased off from participating in the forums. We're always looking for fun, compassionate people to join the forums.

I don't want you to feel chased off either, so I hope you'll stay. Hopefully I can explain a little of how the system works.

Most people here usually stick to either mostly the live chat, or mostly the forums. There are a few of us hybrids who do both, but for those who stick with the live chats, their profile will always say New Member because that title automatically changes depending on how many forum posts you make.

I don't know how many posts are required in each tier, but as you make more posts, the system will change it to things like"Well-Known Member" and then just "Member" (there could be a few other titles, I'm not sure.) Other titles, like the one I have under my username, are ones we make up and request with a paid membership.

Because the automatic system titles depend on your number of posts in the forums, it will never change if the person never makes posts. A chatter-only member could be here for a year and have still say "New Member" because they haven't made any posts in the forum -- but they might not actually be new.

I know you didn't realize all this, so I hope this helps.

For anyone interested in the live chats, I went in there today to ask about the conditions. I might have misunderstood or things could change, so take it this all with a block of salt and ask RoboOp if there are any questions.

1. The chat app will soon be on Google Play, and Google charges fees, so paid memberships will help the site cover those fees.

2. The basic admission to live chat that is free, but certain privileges are extra (making your own room, appearing on camera, etc.) If anyone goes into the chat and has further questions, I'm sure the moderators there can tell you what's basic and what's extra.

From my own experience, I can testify that everything used to be free -- but some people took advantage of that to misbehave, which is another reason why some things are now paid.

Anyway...

Hope this clears some things up but RoboOp will always have the most accurate information.

I'm truly sorry you had a bad experience, @BrokenPaul. There are many good people here and I hope you're able to make some friends.

Welcome to the forums, and I hope you'll continue to post.

A group of us make threads about everyday life and some humorous topics in Singles and Family -- come check it out if you're like. :)
