I’m an Anglican-minded Christian (rather older) with a deep love for Scripture, theology, and the history of the Church, and I especially enjoy thoughtful conversations that bring Christians from different traditions together. Welcome QuietLampstand, studying church history can be interesting, as can scripture and theology. One of the biggest problems I find is working all three and staying consistent. Lots of people ignore some aspects of one of the three fields in order to support the doctrine they are comfortable with.

That is very true, Rewriter. I would include the study of ancient European and Middle Eastern histories. And it should be stressed that it is important to know Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. Honestly, you cannot truly understand or appreciate the New Testament fully without a working knowledge of the Old.

Perhaps you are familiar with "BLK SHP Scott". I've come across his youtube presentations on OT history and found them fascinating.

No. Actually, I'm rather an old guy and depend mostly on my old seminary and university history books (my wife thinks I'm a book hoarder)... But I will check out the reference you gave and I truly appreciate it.
