Hey Everyone,

The CC peeps I keep in touch with has often mentioned that it would be cool to do something like go on a cruise and invite others from CC to make their own bookings -- so that we could all meetup on the ship!

@Lanolin posted some great questions regarding such a trip:

Well we can dream...start a thread Captain Seoulsearch. What will our ship be called and where would it dock? What excursions shall we sign up for? Will we have a lifeboat drill? Who would you share a cabin with?

So many questions...too many answers

These are just a few of the awesome questions Lanolin came up with -- let's try to answer some of these here!


1. Have you ever been on or would you ever go on a cruise? What is YOUR idea of a good cruise ship?

2. Would you be willing to take the time to participate in a lifeboat drill? (Muster drill?)

I follow a few cruise channels that say many passengers think they're a waste of time, but I'm all about safety, so you better believe I'd be willing to participate!





2. What name(s) do you think would be good for our ship?

3. What place(s) would you like our ship to dock -- that we could explore?

I've been on 2 cruises, one to the Bahamas when I was a kid (and can't remember any of it, except how sick I felt when you could feel the boat swaying,) and one to Mexico.

In my wildest dreams, I think it would be cool to take a European Castle Cruise, just because I love castles:

3. Would you even WANT to go anywhere off the ship, or would you want to stay on board the whole time?

I have to admit. The introvert in me would probably like spending most of my time wandering the ship, meeting people in small doses (not wanting to overwhelm anyone,) and reading or writing in small corners with amazing views.

But what about YOU?


4. What kind of room would you want?

I'm guessing most of us would like a good bargain -- unfortunately, these are the kinds of rooms that bargain prices will get:

No frills, no windows, and a nightmare for anyone with claustrophobia.






Some of the biggest problems I've read about "bargain cabins" are: obstructed views, noisy locations (such as near pools, lounges, and elevators,) uncomfortable motion and vibrations (such as the very front or back, or near the engine rooms.)


I'm guessing most people would want hope to get a room like this? (We're just dreaming here, and dreaming, unlike the real thing, is free!)

But any answer goes!!





5. Who would like you to have as your CC roomie(s?)

Married friends would of course have their spouses, but what about everyone else?

Is there anyone from CC that you could see yourself sharing a cabin with? (For us singles, same gender friendships only, of course!)

Seeing as I have roomed with them a few times before, I would choose @cinder and/or @Pipp, especially since Cinder and I have our own "system" of "setting up" an "invisible electric fence" right down the middle of our shared spaces -- and we know the dire consequences if either of us crosses the line!

I could also see inviting @Godsgirl1983 and several other cool female CC'ers to our room for lunch, laughs, and stirring up a whole lot of trouble!

And for everyone else, I would love to meet you to all around the ship.

There are several other questions we could ask in a Part 2 for this thread -- but for now, let's see if we can "reel" in any interest and we'll "sea" you all later.

I've never been on a cruise. Not even once!

The lifeboat drill would probably be the hardest part for me. I can't swim and I'm terrified of open water, so the thought of sitting in a tiny lifeboat makes me nervous. But I'd still do it. Safety first!

I'm definitely getting my own cabin. I enjoy meeting people, but I also need some quiet time to recharge.
And since I'm clearly a princess, I'll be needing a suite with a private balcony. My dream cabin would be decorated in soft pink with roses and lace. If we're dreaming, we might as well dream big!

I love getting to know new people. I'm quite social and very talkative once I get comfortable, although I'm usually a little quiet and just observing at first.

To be honest... I'm already mentally packing my suitcase and checking my calendar. When do we leave?

When I read the title I thought this would be quite a different kind of "shipping" thread.

Well if that's where my friends are hanging out, I could do a cruise. And I can sleep in a box, so give me that first cabin. Looks like a nice bed. I'm thin enough I can maneuver in that room. And I carry earplugs on vacation, so the noise of whatever wouldn't bother me.

I'm prone to motion sickness though. The bigger the boat, I think, the better for me.

I don't really have any preference for what we see or do on the cruise. Just let me know where the group is going and I'll tag along. The friends make the party for me, not the location.

And I have to give you MAJOR kudos for being open to this even though you can't swim and don't like open water!! I haven't swam in so many years, I'm not sure how I'd fare either, and I have to admit, when I starting thinking about all that water... a little too much... I might start to panic!

But like you, if a bunch of fun people were going along, I'd be willing to try!

IDK if I'd be interested. The only reason I'd want to go would be for the food, but that would be a very expensive buffet. I'm not really into sightseeing or socializing and I don't drink. I would just miss being home. The ocean views would be nice though.

I would go if others were going. Last cruise I went on I didn't like the cruising vibe much, so I'd want a fairly full itinerary and the boat is just for convenient travel and sleeping arrangements. So that's alaska or carribean or mediterranean islands. Maybe around new zealand would work too.

I just wanna see pretty nature sights, eat good food, get away from it all, and read some good books.

Kathleen Madigan, a famous comedian, said one time when she was doing a cruise her cabin was right next to one that had a lot of balloons taped to the door. She happened to meet her elderly next door neighbor couple just as they were leaving one day.

"By the time we get back to our cabin we're usually pretty hammered, so this is how we find our room."

"Bonus, if you come back to your cabin and you're too drunk to remember which one is yours, just find ours and then take the cabin next door and you have a 50% chance of getting it right."

Yes, I actually wrote a thread several years ago with the same hook ("Ship Ship Hooray!") that actually WAS a shipping thread (matchmaking,) but unfortunately, we don't have enough regulars here right now for something like that.

Such a pity, I know how much you'd LOVE to see another matchmaking thread!

I'd be at the theatre every night for the live on board entertainment, and also yes there would be a karaoke/sing along bar, with mocktails and snacks.

My Good Ship Chupachup would not be a booze cruise though. I think it would be nice to cruise the islands of the Pacific, or maybe alongside the coast of Australia. I have been around New Zealand so that was nice. I only got sick heading to Australia across the Tasman. So if I were to do it again I wouldn't include Australia on the itinerary and just cruise around New Zealand lol . I would be getting off for an excursion to Akaroa because I really want to see the Giant's House.
The cruise Around Australia I would leave from Sydney and go all the way up the coast and I would definitely like to see the Great Barrier Reef. But even just a dinner harbour cruise in Sydney would be nice (on a smaller ship, maybe a ferry)
A river cruise does sound nice whether its the rivers of China (definitely see the Guilin mountains) Li and Yangtze rivers
Or the Nile
Or the Danube
If going to the Caribbean I'd get off at the islands and I'd just have reggae music all the time.

Port excursions I would sign up for depends where it is, but if its a group one would wear a silly hat.

I would definitely go for the CC balcony room, haven't decided if I'd have a roomie or not. But even if had a cabin with no balcony, I would request it be in the middle of the ship, and near the library.

Buffet lunch with the CC gang and fine dining dinner, with @Karlon and Thea as dinner companions in a table of six.

Shipboard games would include the hula hoop contest, last person to post wins, elastics, and knuckle bones. Table tennis is also a good one and in the pool, marco polo or volleyball

My open air movie would be sing-along Sound of Music.

Yes there will be on board fellowship group!

Yes, I follow a couple YouTube channels that cover news and common complaints about cruises -- it's amazing to me how many people complain about the muster drills...

Kind of reminds me of how people were annoyed by lifeboats on the Titanic, saying they were ugly and unnecessary.

I guess some people just can't wait to get to pool bar!

I was going to do a Part 2 of this thread covering people's food and entertainment choices, but I think everyone's pretty much mentioned them here already.

I forget that most of the people here on the forum usually identify as introverts, so most would prefer quieter, stay-in activities like reading or cards?

@zeroturbulence, I'm especially interested (and fascinated) by the thought of you singing karaoke (I would definitely attend!)

I think over the years you've said you're shy, and I know you said in a post here you wouldn't really be into socializing -- I'm just curious as to how this changes when you're singing?

I'm the opposite -- I've always said I'm an introvert who can masquerade as an extrovert when needed. So I could socialize with people, but the thought of me singing in front of them would have me frozen in fear!

But it would be awesome if you sang for us!

I have this weird thing where I like to do introverted things, but be around my friends.

I'd probably invite people for times where we could all technically hang out in the same room/area, but most everyone would be doing their own thing (reading, writing, playing games, on their phone or laptop, etc.)

Though internet packages on the high seas are said to be very expensive, and not very reliable.

Even if you're not drunk, all those cabin doors look alike after a while, so I personally think putting something on your door that helps you find it is a smart idea.

Make sure it's not something you're attached to, though.

The last cruise video I listened to said it's become more common for people to steal things off other people's doors (of course that's always happened, but it's apparently a lot worse now.)

Wow, Lanolin, this really covered all the bases!!

And, I'd be all aboard for a dry (no alcohol) cruise. I know it's important to some people, but seeing as it really just makes me sick, I'd be all for the mocktails.

Plus, it would be nice to not have to try to make my way through a sea of drunk people, but that's just my preference. Being a non-drinker is something that makes me hesitant to go on a regular cruise.

A while back I was looking at some river cruises along the Mississippi, which seemed very laid-back and relaxing.
