The thought of going on a cruise on one of those floating cities has never been an appealing thought to me. I guess if I had to do it, it would be fun to attend with a community like this with the hope of getting to know some of Chat's members better.

I would prefer the cruise dock at places that aren't configured for tourism so we could experience how the places really are. In Alaska there used to be a lot of neat places to go to but the cruise lines either bought them up for their near exclusive use or engineered contracts that gave the cruise line crowd the best of everything. That kind of spoiled things for locals like myself.

Visiting several Caribbean Islands could be interesting but I'm sure that everything we experienced would be "made for the cruiser tourists".

Lastly, I've been told that if there is any activity you wish to enjoy on the ship, the best time for it is when most of the city's population is ashore.

I know Lanolin mentioned the live shows...

I might catch a show or two but what I'd really like to try is a zipline!

I've never been on one before and it's on my bucket list!

And, depending on how brave I was feeling, I might also try the waterslides. 😎

WHO'S WITH ME??!!!

@Lynx, I KNOW you're dying to go... 🤣🤣🤣

This is such a shame and very sad to hear.

A friend and I have been talking about the possibility of an Alaskan Land & Sea tour for years, but it kind of puts a damper on it knowing how much the industry has taken away from the people who actually live there. 😢

I was going to do a Part 2 of this thread covering people's food and entertainment choices, but I think everyone's pretty much mentioned them here already. :)

I forget that most of the people here on the forum usually identify as introverts, so most would prefer quieter, stay-in activities like reading or cards?

@zeroturbulence, I'm especially interested (and fascinated) by the thought of you singing karaoke (I would definitely attend!)

I think over the years you've said you're shy, and I know you said in a post here you wouldn't really be into socializing -- I'm just curious as to how this changes when you're singing?

I'm the opposite -- I've always said I'm an introvert who can masquerade as an extrovert when needed. So I could socialize with people, but the thought of me singing in front of them would have me frozen in fear! 😮

But it would be awesome if you sang for us! :D
You must be new here.

Seriously, did you really expect us to not mention food?

Why, yes, yes...

I'm VERY new.

This was my very first thread, thank you!! (Am I sounding convincing yet?!) 🤣

I mean, if I try to pass myself off as new -- does than mean I can get away with more?

Originally, I'd planned on writing a sequel to this thread that asked the rest of @Lanolin's awesome questions, covering entertainment, excursions, and food -- but I think this intrepid bunch has already sailed right through them. :)

No worries!

Working on another thread I think people might like, shifting over again into the Family Forum. 🥸

Just not sure when it will be approved.

Muster drill isn't optional. We're done with cruises. Most now spend more days at sea than ports.
i may know how you feel. my wife & i are about tired of vacations too. i feel like i just want to live locally & social around locally. for instance, just today she came back from another vacation & she's wiped out! but we want at least 1 more because she's never been to hawaii. after i told her about hawaii, she totally wants to go.

Wow, Lanolin, this really covered all the bases!! 🚢

And, I'd be all aboard for a dry (no alcohol) cruise. I know it's important to some people, but seeing as it really just makes me sick, I'd be all for the mocktails.

Plus, it would be nice to not have to try to make my way through a sea of drunk people, but that's just my preference. Being a non-drinker is something that makes me hesitant to go on a regular cruise.

A while back I was looking at some river cruises along the Mississippi, which seemed very laid-back and relaxing.

i respect that fact that you are non alcohol. about last August or close to that time, i quit. i day i woke up & said, " no more"! i haven't even had 1 temptation to drink alcohol.

Well, if we're decorating our dream cabins here, is it any surprise that mine would look something like this:

As far as where to travel why not to Ōkunoshima, Japan?
Um, that's where Rabbit Island is 😁
and yes, it is a real place. We'd have to cruise to Kobe, then we'd have to catch a train, make a switch, and eventually catch a ferry to actually get to Rabbit Island, but I'm telling you, it would be ohhh so worth it 🤩

My favorite travel YouTubers are the ones who review the non-alcoholic drinks along with the alcoholic ones for various places and events they go to.

One particular host says he's never had alcohol and doesn't intend to, so he reviews all the mocktails while other team members cover the alcoholic drinks. I really appreciate the respect for a different lifestyle choice.

As a single woman, I don't like being around places where alcohol is free-flowing, and I certainly don't like being around drunk people (for safety reasons.)

I'm fine with responsible drinking, but of course, a cruise is the last place you would find it! 🤣

I mean, I knew there were Cat Cafes...

you own some fine Christian characteristics.

you own some fine Christian characteristics.

Very kind of you to say, thank you.

I've never been officially tested but I think I am allergic to alcohol. I've read that some Asians are missing an enzyme that breaks it down.

I consider it a blessing, or who knows, I might have fallen to alcoholism just as easily as the next person.

The only time I might enjoy alcohol is when it's used in recipes.

I would never look down on anyone who drinks responsibly, and my heart goes out to anyone who struggles in this area.

Thank you again!

You and your wife have some amazing adventures and life experiences! I am glad you share them with us! Even if they are just at home. 🙂

It gives us other homebodies something to aspire to!

I know there used to be a hotel in wasaba, Minnesota where you could request a cat to stay the night with you. They matched people with cats, depending on the cat's personality.

There is currently a hotel in Utah that does this. The cats are candidates for adoption.

Never been on cruise 🛳, got me thinking...
Always flying, rent a car, see places diy kind of person.

Maybe a 5 day mini cruise 🛳 taste first 🤔

But seoul searching you are a lot of fun, I would love to hang out as a group one day.

In my local church, we have a women fellowship, we might go places together.

Awesome!

Thanks for the kind words, but I can assure you, in real life, I'm pretty boring. But when we get people together as a group, you never know what kind of trouble might happen! :D

This is something I like about the threads though. It's a way for people to "hang out," and hopefully have some fun.

A while back we were holding a live chat (in the chat rooms here) on some Friday nights -- it was a small way to "get together."

If we get another "regular" group who might be interested, we might try to start that back up again.
