Hi, nice to meet you guys.

My name is elise.and for context I just turned 20 today and gave my Life to christ when I was 16.

I've always been isolated but I know that God says to surround yourselves with fellow believers. I hope to grow more in my walk with Christ.

And is interested to observe others relationship with God since I sometimes get awkward in my relationship with the Lord, any tips to improve that?

Welcome, Elise.

May I ask what you mean when you say that your relationship with God sometimes gets awkward? Awkward in what sense?

In the sense i don't know how to act sometimes; like should i pray or bible studies, ect... it's more so that I am not used to stillness or silence so I get awkward and don't now what to do.

Plus, I'm not used to closeness and the idea of being close to God has made it feel awkward sometimes or like he felt distant, even when I know he isn't.

I'm not sure if others had these experiences with God too or if it's normal or it can be improved

It's normal. David was a man after God's own heart, and what you described here reminds me of what he wrote in Psalm 143. I hope this brings you some comfort:

Psalm 143

1 Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.
5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.
7 Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
9 Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
11 Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.
12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

The book of Psalms is good place to turn to whenever you are feeling confused or distant from God. There, you will find heartfelt prayers unto God made by those who are going through things similar to what you are presently going through. It may not seem so right now, but the fact that your soul is yearning more for God is a good thing. It's when we lose that yearning that we should truly worry. I will leave you with this for now:

Psalm 42

1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

It is great that you gave your life to Christ at such an early age.

My own personal walk with Christ has also been a struggle at times. Take comfort in knowing that God will neither leave you nor forsake you.

You are correct in that God says to surround yourself with fellow believers. My one tip in improving your relationship with God is to pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide you in the life-long repentance process.

Glad to have you onboard with us. May God bless you too.

Welcome to CC.

Welcome. Remember that no matter what, God loves you enough to send Jesus to die in your place.

Welcome elise34, overcoming the bad influence of others who claim to be Christian can be a problem. One big thing to remember is that Christians are not perfect, just forgiven, but we remain sinners. I know many other Christians that I wish would act more like Christ, but then I consider how often I also fail to live up to my own standards.

As for improving, I tell people to work on one thing at a time, a lesson I learned when working with alcoholics. Recovering alcoholics need to focus just on not drinking until it ceases to be a serious, routine problem, then they can decide to work on another problem. But trying to resolve too many issues at once divides the focus and usually ends up in massive failure. I would thus encourage you to find the one thing you want to work on the most and work on that single issue until it is no longer a serious problem, then move on to your next goal.

Hi elise34 glad you are joining the CC fellowship, welcome! I've learnt that sometimes I think I'm the only one feeling a certain way then find out I'm like one in billions who've had similar emotions🥰 That's why we need to get in the word every day and find our identity in who God says we are. Have fun browsing the Forums, and hope you jump in and meet many fellow believers😊 God bless you and your endeavors🙏🙌
