A Defense of Calvinism as the Gospel

Prof. David J. Engelsma

The term "Calvinism" is not the name by which we Calvinists prefer to have our faith called; nor do we prefer to call ourselves "Calvinists." Calvin was the name of a man, a great servant of God, John Calvin. He was one of the Reformers by whom the Holy Spirit reformed the Church in the 16th century. To call ourselves "Calvinists" and our faith "Calvinism" leaves the impression that we follow a man and that these beliefs are the invention of a man. In fact, these terms originally were terms of derision used by our enemies, as were also the names "Christian" and "Protestant." Therefore, from the very beginning, Calvinists called themselves "Reformed" or "Presbyterian." Thus, t

The tenets of what is commonly referred to as, "Calvinism," simply clicks with your brain.
OK ... We get it.
Enjoy it if you wish.

Being closed minded and dogmatic means one lacks the needed patience to truly mature.
Lacks the desire for correction where needed.
And, a strong desire wanting to feel secure in knowing you are right, and all others are wrong.

Some believers are like that in their flesh.

Here is why will click with some of us:

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.
Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great
number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

2 Timothy 4:3

Enjoy...

Is that all you have to say ?

What is your favorite baseball team?
Maybe you should concentrate that natural drive of yours into such secular activities?

Start a thread...

The Yankees are the Only Good Team!

end of subject....

What do you mean ?
How can you do what you said?

"Now it is true that the Gospel is to be preached, or proclaimed to all,
but its also just as true that it should be made clear that Christs atoning
death wasn't for all."
How can an unbeliever even begin to know where he stands if you told him that?

It should be made clear that Christs atoning
death wasn't for all."

So what do you tell them?

"Christ might have not died for you?"

It took me ten years to discover that I had gotten saved!

Imagine if I was to believe Christ may have not died for me when handed that tract?

You guys do not know how to think things through to a logical Scriptural conclusion.

But, I am not worried. For many get saved in spite of what TULIP tells us.

In Christ ........

Because Jesus came only for Abraham's spiritual seed - those who are Christ's brethren - but not for everyone
Is every believer throughout history going to be the Bride of Christ?
No...

Even John the Baptist recognized that he was not to be the Bride.

John recognized that in his resurrection body it will make him the friend of the Groom!
Not the Bride!

You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’
The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits
and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice.
That joy is mine, and it is now complete.

John 3:28-29

How can an unbeliever even begin to know where he stands if you told him that?
You just tell the truth, tell the person exactly who Christ died for and saved. His People Matt 1:21 or His sheep Jn 10 or His Church Eph 5:25, if that unbeliever belongs to God, God will give them faith in Christ.

Its the Gospel

That is heretical. It is typical of your speech since you cannot defend your beliefs from scripture unless you copy/paste from your prophet who thinks Jesus just came along and all the prophecy about Him was story telling around the fire on those long, cold desert nights.

Yes, quite a system of dangerous error and false non biblical blather. We would expect nothing less from you.

Are you a Jew?

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:21

That was as much Mary needed to know at that time.

Just when you thought it was safe to participate in a thread.

What is a them gospel?

Calvinism is not the gospel but I understand it is your gospel because you think you are special. Every time you post on here I think I get a whiff of something burning.

Calvin would frown on such behavior. I see him asking 'does anyone have matches?'

You obviously do not see the contradiction in what you say. Be careful or other indoctrinates may disown you, clever as you believe yourself to be.

The Jesus of Calvinism seems to be a master thespian knocking on doors he never intends to enter into. He will short of it in spite of His declaration, "Behold! I stand at the door and knock... (no need to behold the entirety of this declaration)"

Trick or treat!
