Kibbutzim is not representative of a national government. Strict controls are necessary in many applications.

But in government it leads to a tyranny. And yes, people are treated like bricks in a wall. They are tools to be used with indifference to their humanity.

Socialism/Communism sounds good when efficiency and order is desired. But in the end, people are turned into pawns to be used. In the end they starve or live a life addicted to government-provided motivations to work. In a Communist country, religion is not the opiate. Rather, it is the lust for freedom from morality.
