Some verses to consider.Please note....
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells;
Romans 7:18a
Our flesh is where the sin nature resides.
Our soul is not the flesh.
Because the flesh controls the soul of the unbeliever?
His soul is denied being able to perform righteous good.
God does not save our body.
God saves the soul.
Therefore, it is only the soul that God evaluates for salvation.
To do that?
God will arrange for evaluation of that soul to happen.
He does so by grace immobilizing the sin nature during certain moments that the soul
was being presented pertinent truth which God uses to evaluate souls with.
If there was any good to be found in that soul when minus the flesh by grace?
That alone is what God sees.
Then after the evaluation of men's souls by God?
In his omniscience God then choses whom He shall save, and predestines them
to be born in times of history according to His sovereign will and purpose.
It can cause odd feelings when it begins to all make sense.![]()
1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The "flesh", as I see it, is a description of all three, "spirit, soul, and body", all corrupted by sin. Dead, as the Bible says. (Ephesians 2:1, 2:5, Colossians 2:13, 1 Timothy 5:6, Romans 6:23). God is life, separated from Him we have no life, only death. When we are placed into Jesus, with the indwelling, we then have the Spirit in us, the life (Romans 8:9-11).
Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2 Corinthians 11:4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!
