I usually go to an eco-friendly hair salon because I’m pretty “green" and I prefer using natural products whenever I can. The problem is that, in our small town, getting an appointment there can be quite a challenge. They don’t work weekends and usually only work part-time during the daytime, so when you have a regular job, finding a time that actually works can feel like a small miracle.

That’s why I eventually taught myself to dye my hair with henna. It’s a rather messy business and my bathroom has definitely seen better days because of it! But after doing it for years, I’ve become surprisingly good at it. And the best part? I save about €100 every single time I do it myself, so I’ve learned to accept the mess as part of the deal.

These days, though, I’ve stopped coloring my hair altogether and decided to let my natural color come back. And you know what? I actually really like it! It’s quite beautiful in its own way. I’ve also started growing my hair long, which I’ve wanted to do for a long time. So now I’m saving money simply by leaving my hair alone. That might be the cheapest haircare routine of all!

And when it comes to cutting hair, I’ve been doing that myself for quite a while, too. Twenty-six years ago, I taught myself how to cut men’s hair and I’ve been cutting all my sons’ hair ever since, as well as their dad’s. He never wanted to go to a barber anyway, so he was perfectly happy to let me practice on him.

So I suppose I’ve spent quite a few years finding creative ways to avoid expensive trips to the hairdresser. And honestly, I don’t mind at all. There’s something rather satisfying about being able to do these things yourself.

you do seem like a woman who has the gift of easy laughter. i just realized we are hijacking, straying, not staying on topic of the topic!

For me, part of the fun of posting threads is that you never know where they are going to go.

The rabbit trails are what can make them so interesting!

The only time I don't like it is when someone is hijacking the thread to go off on some kind of tangent that cuts other people or groups of people down.

In those cases, I really think they should just write their own threads.

But when someone goes off topic to share something meaningful, uplifting, or funny, those are the best kinds of details! 😁

I love trying to make people laugh. ❤️

It's that old saying that a friend of mine reminded me of a few months ago...

If you don't learn to laugh at what you can in life, you'll be crying all the time! ❤️🙏🏼🌹
