Pennsylvania was named after Wiliam Penn. I know because I lived there. He founded the state and it was originally meant as a safe haven for the Quakers, a Christian group escaping persecution from England, before the American revolution began. They're called quakers because they pray still for so long that they begin to shake due to muscle fatigue.

Philadelphia was founded by Christians trying to create a utopian society. The name means "brotherly love" in Latin. The utopian society failed of course but to make the city succeed they invited normal people.....ALL of which were Christian but not dedicated to their utopian ideals and had different views on God. (Atheists, hindu, Jews, muslims, and Buddhists were in very very short supply)

Yes I remember that Philadelphia means brotherly love. I was just a little kid so they didn't teach us about utopian societies or anything, but I got to touch the Liberty Bell and visited Independence Hall several times where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were signed.

Why do mor... er, people... think that yelling at someone on an internet forum will get anything close to the effect they want?

SPOILER ALERT: It doesn't. Like, never. Never ever ever.

Maryland is the only US state without a natural lake!

So no fishing either!
Wait... Rhode Island has a lake? Like, they managed to find a place to squeeze it in? But Maryland doesn't have one?

That's like if New York didn't have a single Starbucks, but there were fifteen of the places in my little town...

Technically you are right about Virginia, which was named in honor of Queen Elizabeth I because she was known as the virgin Queen.

But the state obviously doesn’t carry her name.

Georgia was named after King George.

North and South Carolina were named after King Charles

Louisiana was named after King Louis XIV of France.
What about California?

Named after Queen Calafia

Look it up.

Well, possibly, but there are several theories as to its origin, and even the QUEEN Calafia theory is from a fictional novel. Although if that theory is correct, then that would indeed qualify as another woman. Good work!

Hooray~! I was right about something! Even if she was imaginary!

Ok how about Dollywood. Surely that is named after a woman. Maybe not a state, but I'm sure it's in the US somewhere. Shall Alaska?

You don't have to ask. Tennessee is where I live, and I can tell you first-hand you ain't missing nothing. It's a little rinky-dink amusement park that tries to pretend it's southern Disney.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, that's a little bit better. Not a lot, but a little.

Dollywood is a theme park....an expensive theme park named after a country music singer famous for two things.
One is her constantly moving mole on her face....the other is her huge bustline.
The theme park is located next to a very popular national park in the Appalachian mountains in Tennessee.

And

When international travel is less than desirable because of the violence of muslims or Africans or Russians....(usual suspects) people here in America travel domestically to travel destinations inside of America. (America is that big)
Dollywood is a country music Disneyland....nothing more.

Well all we have in Aucks is Rainbows End. Years ago we used to have this place called Leisureland as well, but I never went to it, even though it was just the next suburb over.

If you want a getaway/holiday with lot o' amusing things to do, you went to Rotovegas aka Rotorua. Its got zorbs, its got gondolas, its got geysers, its got mudpools, ziplines, maize mazes, ducktours, thermal underwear...I mean springs..and it smells like rotten. eggs
