Anger towards God

I was laid off in June of this year. A full search has been made for a job beginning with a sincere pray for God's leadership and provision of a job. However it is like God is silent and has abandoned me. My heart is hurting because of the silence. I have searched my life and have tried to make changes to become what he wants me to be but still silence and no job. This has caused a tremedous amount of anger towards God because it is like I am trying to live, pray and be as God has taught but he has turned his back on me. How do I not feel angry?

In today's world, it is very easy to get the impression that God just doesn't care any more. No matter that Scripture tells us that this could not be further from the truth; when we are hurting, we can't seem to understand that He still has a plan for us.

I have been where you are. I have also lain in a hospital bed, close to death, with my life hanging in the balance. I can honestly tell you that it wasn't until I looked back on those times in my life that I realized that God had been with me then, too; that He sustained me during those times without my ever knowing it.

My advice to you would be, if you can, try to focus your attention outward rather than on your own problems. I do not know your day-to-day circumstances but I would suggest that you look for some place to volunteer your time, where you can possibly help persons who face even worse problems than you. Not only will this help to take your mind off your own troubles, it may help you see that you are not as bad off as you could be.

Finally, I can tell you with personal confidence, "Don't give up on God." You can count on His promise in Joshua 1, verse 5, "...I will never leave you nor forsake you." We all know that God never lies.

God has given you life. why do you feel entitled to anything else?

You sound like an impatient child who is not thankful for the many blessings he has already been given.

you do not serve God out of love but out of an idea you can barter your good behavior for a reward and get angry because you don't think that you have been given enough reward and that God owes you something when you have not even humbly thanked Him for what He already have given you.

Obviously you are educated since you are online and can read and type your feelings. that is a blessing, have you thanked God for it?

there are probably much more that you have not bothered to considered or you would be ashamed at your thoughts and your anger at a God who loves you and through His mercy has not given you the punishment you deserve for your numerous sins.
 
God's timing isn't always ours. A few years back I was without a job for a few months and then one day a job literally fell into my lap and my life to a whole new direction and calling. Not saying it always happens that way but like Job we need to trust God through the good and the bad and he will bless us.

Chancemaniv: It isn't uncommon to get angry at God, but you need to remember that doesn't mean that He has left you. Many times we do not know what or why we have to go through certain trials in life, but trust God that HE has a plan for you.

Jeremiah 29:11 says.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

And there are many here on CC, including myself that can't explain why God has us go through things, but in the bible it even gives examples of people who go through great trials, such as Joseph being sold by his own brothers, he was put in jail for what seemed like no good reason BUT God had a greater plan for Joseph and many around him. (Genesis 37)

Try not to get discouraged, God loves you. He will be with you as long as you allow it. He has a great plan for you. Keep praying and seeking Him. Trust that something will come along.
 
Thank you for the comments. They have helped to better understand and cope. Since the posting of this, I have felt the anger go away. Please continue to pray for me. I truly believe that God has a plan and it is my goal to search and wait for that job God has for me.

While I don't know your current situation, I could understand your frustration if you are doing all that you can to find a new job and have yet to find a single job offer. However, if you have not done all that you could do (like signing up with a temp service to for temporary work until you find something worthwhile or have pushed job offers away because you felt that they were not worth your time or somehow beneath you, then God really isn't to blame for your situation. You never know when God might want you to take an obscure job that pays little on earth yet the spiritual / heavenly rewards could be far greater.

Often times our anger toward God is a result of wrong beliefs about God. Again, I don't know you or your situation however, being unemployed could be God's way of allowing you to have plenty of time to get to know Him better. Just think about it, you've eternity to gain and nothing to lose. I know tons of people who wish they had more time to pursue God, now is your chance. :)

I'm glad your anger has faded and your faith is renewed in God and His plan for you.

Just take it day by day, that is all any of us can really do.

All the hurting that's in this world comes from sin. Search your heart and soul and when you find the sin that's there confess it to the Lord. If you can't find any then ask God to show it to you. He will. God hates sin. He can't work through it but if you'll ask him to show it to you he'll bring it up for you, but you got to confess it. Then as long as you follow him he'll do mighty things in your life.

Omighty God what ever it is that keeping you from doing great things in Chancemaniv life I pray that you will make it surfast so it can be put to rest. Touch him Lord in a mighty way. In the name of Jesus
 
Hi Chancemaniv; I hope you are well. The relationship I have with my God is an always confusing, often tempestuous one.
I'm always asking questions about things I don't understand. I get angry & shout over the injustices I see in our world. I've had "stand-up" fights with my God, literally screaming "why?!".
Answers I have demanded often seem to hit a brick wall & I wonder if I'd be better off talking to our doggie!
But my relationship with my God can be heated, irksome, dumbfounded, yet strange, puzzling & even funny as he tells me jokes! Have you ever knelt @ prayer &, spying the back of the neck of the man in front, begun to giggle, trying your best not to burst into laughing by biting the insides of your cheeks?!
This is my God cracking a joke to me! Totally nuts but he's using His church for it's due intentions- To make Him accessible to all & tell us what he's all about!
So, 'though I'll seek angry answers, indignantly & ignorantly, He will always provide the answer I want & in the most unlikely of scenarios & manner. It sometimes takes time, making me endlessly wait- But, sooner or later, the response & reasoning will come, often in an unlikely place & environment.
But this is my God & what he's all about - And this is why I have such a loving, laid back, crucial & wondrous relationship with 'The great architect of the Universe'! He speaks to me in a way I can comprehend & value.
This is my God - & I can put up with him if he can tolerate me!

All the hurting in this world does not come from sin. Jesus tells us that rain will fall on the just and the unjust!! God allows things in our lives for a reason. We may not see the reason and have trouble understanding it when it comes...it is God testing us. We can either rise to the challenge or fall because of it. If we do not succeed the first time to take on the challenge sometimes we have to go through it again. God teaches us lessons all the time and we need to realize it and ask him to take the lead and teach us what we need to be who he wants us to be. To assume that a person is sinning when he or she is going through a trial and that is why is just wrong!! God's ways are far above our ways. We should encourage our brother or sister when they are going through trials of any kind and pray for them and do anything we can to help even if it is just letting them know we care!!! We learn through the things we go through and it can often put us in a position to help someone else when they go through something similar! God only wants good things for us but he has told us in his word we will be tested and we need to recognize God is working in our lives when it happens. He sees all knows all and needs no one to decide for him what he should do or how to do it. God loves all his children and like any good parent must teach so we may become the children he wants us to be!! Assuming someone is sinning because they go through difficulties is wrong....God is our judge and he needs no help in that department!!
 
If you feel like this for God not giving you something, what should Job have felt, when God took away from him EVERYTHING? Sometimes God just puts us to a test. Hold on and give it all up to Him. God be with you!

Gods time is not our time, gods ways are not our ways. If they were he would not be god. You are rightfully concerned about your situation however you may be looking so hard for an answer that you can't see it infront of you. Have you heard the saying can't see the forrest through the trees. You may be asking the wrong thing. Instead of praying for god to give you something carnal ie job pray he will draw you closer to him in this time of need and act by faith not sight. Pray for god to be by your side and get you through this and accept his timing and his provision till something comes up. My family (wife and daughters) were evicted from our house because we were helping mom my by letting her live with us. We had a week to get out with no where to go. The only house in our price range and available had just opened up but I felt god telling me it would be a bad situation. We did not move in. I did not complain because I knew god had something better for us as I'm sure he does for you. God opened up a friends heart to let us stay with them. A month passed as we got dead ends at every house we checked into. We were renting in town but wanted to be in country. I stood by faith and at the end of that month we found an acreage to buy for less than what we were paying in rent. After not having a garage for years, as a car guy that's important to me, I now have a 50ft x 100 shop. God has provided above what I was looking for but had I acted on sight and took that first place I would not be where god wanted me. I'm not saying its easy but if you pray for patience does god zap you and now your patient or does he give you the chance to be patient. If pray pray for faith does he magically make your faith grow or does he give you a chance to act on faith. Be patient and draw near to god not further away.
