Abe' had the faith, so he is responsible for his faith.
Again, it is said of Abraham that he believed God and it was credited to him for righteousness. I'm not asking about faith, but who is the source of the imputed righteousness? Does Abraham impute righteousness to himself, or does God impute the righteousness of Christ to him?

Because of Abe's belief, he was credited with righteousness...by God.
God did the 'imputation'.
God calls a spade a spade.
He will not call the unrighteous "righteous".

So we have established that OT saints found grace in God's sight, were saved through faith, and had the righteousness of Christ imputed to them. How does any of that differ from what NT saints experience in salvation?

NT saints have to repent of sin, and get baptized for their remission...to be found righteous
That is not what OTers did.

Been doing some reading lately on christian doctrine and I keep running in to people saying it's normal to sin daily and it's not possible to stop living in sin. It's like they are saying there's no hope to be free from living in sin and they have just accepted that this is normal.

What sects are teaching this exactly, does anybody know?
If someone says they aren't sinning daily they are listening to their sinful flesh and lying to themselves and to God

This opens another area for discussion: what was the purpose of the old covenant?

It is written..."But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1 John 1:7)
And..."And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments." (1 John 2:3)
And..."If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him." (1 John 2:29)
And..."Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him." (1 John 3:6)
And..."Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." (1 John 3:9)
And..."Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world." (1 John 4:17)
And..."We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not." (1 John 5:18)

The people you are describing don't know God, don't have fellowship with Him, do not abide in Him, are not born of His seed, and are not 'like Him'.
Those that know God, have fellowship with Him, abide in Him, are born of His seed, and are like Him, do not commit sin.

If this is how it works why does Paul constantly warn and exhort the Spirit dwelled believers he writes letters to?
amen because he’s trying to initiate this

if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

and be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:21-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

they exhort Paul and all the apostles to change our minds so we can stop being corrupt and start being made new. It’s hard to tell some folks that they need to even make a choice though here in this forum you’ll meet a lot of opposition for even suggesting the believer needs to do anything at all that those exhortations make clear to the believers

Do you feel that temple worship, dietary rules, and feast keeping are necessary for salvarion?
That has changed over history...don't you think ?
All commands are necessary for salvation, but God gives you grace and mercy for not following all of them. Every command has a benefit and in the case of the dietary rules, the benefits are health wise. God was literally just teaching what is food vs what isn't food. You should look up instances like shrimp and all the problems it carries health wise. Same with Pork. Does it mean you aren't going to heaven if you don't follow it? No... If your life it cultivated by sin vs not, that's what matters as far as salvation is considered, but dietary restrictions are still apart of His commands.

Are you writing about 8 different chapters ?
Yes. Those 8 chapters discuss the new temple during the millennium period.

I see those chapters of Ezek. referring to the temple to be built at Jerusalem after the Israelites are released from Babylon.
How did you get that to apply to the millenial kingdom at all ?
The vision that he saw about this temple has never been built. So either it's millennial reign (I have more reasons but it would be a huge discussion to go over everything) or his vision is wrong.

Would Paul have lost his salvation if he had refused to back-track to Mosaic slavation by Law keeping ?
Same answer as the first one I said. It's a life characterized by sin vs not. But if he backtracked completely on law keeping, he would be in danger of losing salvation. God would try and correct of course, but every withered branch is pruned and thrown into the fire.

Please tell me you are not a Judaizer.
Salvation changed 100% after the resurrection of Christ Jesus.
Nope. It didn't. Salvation was ALWAYS grace and mercy. What Christ did was fulfillment to breaking the 1st covenant God made with Abraham when He put Abraham to sleep and it was keep the covenant or the penalty is death. Hence, a new covenant with Christ was made.
Separate question, do you hate Jews or something? You asked me like it was a derogatory remark.

So, Jesus was actually unnecessary for salvation ?
They had salvation all along. ???
Jesus paid the penalty for the first covenant broken. Salvation was always the same.

The priests went into the holy of holies once a year, with sacrificial blood, for the remission of the people's sins.
So you're saying the book of Hebrews is wrong? That sacrifices never took away sins? I'd be careful going down that road...

the truth is in Jesus words, he asks us not to sin, sin being defined as the Ten commandments.

No its not normal to sin daily, we should do our best not to and repent when we sin its that simple. Jesus helps with this he sends us the Holy spirit.

As for the sects teaching this, Wer should not care but stay away from these when we know they preach sin is O.K., it is not.

Personally I follow the bible only and not part of any denomination so far.

Cheers

You are a sinner desperately trying to pretend you don't sin.

You are a sinner desperately trying to pretend you don't sin.
The question to ask is, am I under some uncontrollable compulsion to sin?
Do I have no other option but to lie, steal, be unfaithful to my wife?
The obvious answer is no. It is a matter of choice.
What if the grace of God was able to keep you from making the wrong choice?
Maybe for 5 minutes? For one hour? For one day? For a week?
Let us not limit God's omnipotence, He is able to keep us from falling.

Some reflections and questions on this thread.

It seems there are 2 camps on this thread. One is the 'we will continue to sin' camp and the 'we must not sin' camp.

It appears the 'we will continue to sin' camp will not engage the Scriptures like Romans 6 and 1 John 3 and others, which plainly, to my mind, teach that sin is not to be part of the Christian's walk.

Rather than engage the Scriptures, some have fallen to name calling, eg. sinless perfectionist, you are a sinner etc.

Are we to lower Scripture to our experience or lift our experience to that of the Scriptures? It is all too easy to view Scripture through our experience and lack of victory over sin and believe this is the normal Christian life.

Let us continue the conversation in charity, engaging Scripture and allowing them to search out our lives, that we might live for the glory of God.

You counter your own points.

It sure was built, and the book of Ezra records it.
The new temple was dedicated in Ezra 6.

It seems then, that you are a Judaizer, and must keep all 600 plus rules to be saved.
I will then remind you of what Paul wrote..."Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." (Gal 5:1-4)
Good, I would hate to think you were anti-Paul's teachings regarding the end of the Law.
It didn't.
There is a whole other thread...but I will not derail this one.
Salvation was ALWAYS grace and mercy.
You forgot the keeping of the Law, in the OT.
What Christ did was fulfillment to breaking the 1st covenant God made with Abraham when He put Abraham to sleep and it was keep the covenant or the penalty is death. Hence, a new covenant with Christ was made.
That was undicipherable...care to rephrase ?
Separate question, do you hate Jews or something? You asked me like it was a derogatory remark.
I hate nobody.
The Jesus hating Jews were adamant in their adherence to the letter of the Law, while being ignorant of the Spirit of the Law.
The Law made nobody perfect, but the bringing of another hope did.
Jesus paid the penalty for the first covenant broken.
Rephrase, please.
Salvation was always the same.
Save it for another thread.

Nicely stated.
