Apparently there is a new Resident Evil movie out?

I've heard at least one reviewer rave about it, when fans thought all hope for a good adaptation was lost.

I've never played the games but got into the cutscene movies for some of them.

And, embarrassingly, I saw all the Milla Jovovich movies, because I liked her as an action star.

But I was growing increasingly frustrated that there was absolutely no continuity between them, even though the same guy was making all of them. (I'm kind of pick about continuity in my stories.) I honestly think if they could have actually kept all the films at least slightly cohesive, it could have been a good series.

What does everyone else think about video game adaptations in movies, shows, etc?

What is it with all the horror genre video games? I never quite got the fascination with those.

I used to read Vampire Chronicles, but when all these other vampire books came out, I just thought they were knock offs of the original Anne Rice novels , which was based on the OG original Dracula by Bram Stoker.

I don't know if an actual game has been made of vampires, but the zombies theme seems to have been popular. Is it because in many video games, you have to fight things that never die. Or sometimes they 'kill' you, but then you just start over again, like an eternal Groundhog day. Cats may have 9 lives but it seems you can have infinite lives on a video game!

the only way out is if you have a Deus ex machina like someone pours water on your device so you can't play it anymore.

There's an older game on PC called Vampire: the Masquerade that I think you might actually like. It's an interesting take on the vampire genre within gaming but without that typical horror vibe - it's more of a DnD style RPG where you control 4 vampire characters.

I really enjoy and actually prefer Zombie/Monster based enemies in games because I find it more freeing to enjoy the natural and God-given inclination towards violence - both direct and social - that many people have. I think if I'm going to be playing a game where I pilot a Mech and my goal is to protect humanity from an evil demon-like horde of evil, then I can fully enjoy the experience without the moral constraints of disobeying God.

Even Total War, which I love, depicts (historical) human violence which is one of the only things I don't like about it. However violence and it's expression is inherently human so the monster/fighting/action genres represent and reflect that for us.

Also I want to remind you, again, that being on any screen (like even right now on ChristianChat) can be a negative, addicting cycle without the proper discipline and grace given by God. Your comments can be passively-judgemental and I don't think that's healthy.

Is there a video game of the movie Titanic? How could you avoid the big iceberg? Or save as many people as you could from drowning? Or would you be the first to try and get on the lifeboats. What if you were in 3rd class and all the doors were locked and you couldn't find a way out..and no lifejacket ....how to avoid freezing to death/drowning? Would you swim to the nearest wooden plank that could be your raft but only big enough to fit one person on it and leave your lover to freeze?

Would you dive down and retrieve the heart of the ocean necklace, what if its in the safe you can't unlock?

Omgosh yes Milla is amazing and tbf she was in some huge movies and one of my very favourites - The Fifth Element - but also the Resident Evils and YES WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? It's one of the only franchises I know to have dropped the ball on continuity since the very first one xD. Still amazing movies (for the most part) but wow.

I personally love them, although it's very easy to do them badly because there's so much more you can do within the CGI/game making environment. For example a great 3D anime/ish style series called Apple Seed looks and feels like a video game movie but it's based on it's own Manga etc.

Then there's the Castlevania series which I loved and could watch over again for sure. So it all depends but there are many gems out there!! God has given so many of us so many amazing gifts

Eg this game is where you go around and around the same streets all the time collecting money and buying houses. What is this game called?

I used to have The Fifth Element going continuously while doing chores. And even if the movie wasn't playing, then I'd often have the soundtrack going. On one hand, I'm glad they didn't ruin it by trying to turn it into a franchise, but on the other hand, I would have loved to have been able to revisit that universe.

Did you see the director's film, "Valerian the City of 1000 Planets"? I wanted it to be as good as Fifth, but unfortunately, it never got there.

I loved Milla's Ultra Violet -- I rented it so many times, I should have just bought it. It's funny to see the YouTube reviewers cut it to pieces now -- even I have to admit it has plot holes a semi-truck could drive through... But she just looked so cool!! And, what really made me a fan was reading/listening to interviews and learning that she really puts in the work, and insists on trying to do as many of her own stunts as she dan.

She's not one of those actors who, as The Critical Drinker would put it, needs an assistant to come running with a pair of safety scissors when opening a bag of crisps! Lol!

And yes, I DID see the original Mortal Kombat movies. I loved Christopher Lambert as Raiden! And you know how Johnny said, "Those were $500 sunglasses!!" I loved the Easter Egg in one of the games where Cassie says, "Those were $500 shoes!!" LOL! I LOVED Cassie, especially as a kick-butt tomboy -- I was disappointed that they turned her into a watered-down Barbie, but I understand they kind of hadto do that for marketing.

I used to watch someone play Castlevania often...

Although I don't play games, I love sci-fi, fantasy, and action (especially when they have good stories.) I haven't watched much of it bc of the same rabbit hole as social media (I'd get hooked and it would take up all my time,) but maybe someday I'll track down all these other awesome-sounding things!

Haven't seen the new ones but I grew up in the midst of the firestorm of controversy around a lot of those old games so they hold a bit of nostalgia for me.

"Violent video games are bad" but you don't, you ask irrelevant questions that you know are loaded and don't have a straight answer but here we go: How do you kill a Terminator that refuses to die? The same way you would anyway because a refusal does not make one invincible. Then to answer the secondary part, no. You simply need a weapon that defeats a Terminator. Why would I have to join them to defeat them?

So to directly relate that to the Word which, WOW is called...? The Sword. Hmmm interesting that God directly gives us a WEAPON for fighting EVIL. Seems to be almost a natural and holy thing then to seek out righteous violence - which the Lord Himself did and will again against the Wicked. Even when Jesus was asked about the Two Swords, He said they were enough. Not too many.

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. V:tM, controlling a squad, I'm going to assume you're talking about Redemption, not Bloodlines. And DEFINITELY not Bloodlines 2. Cause 2 never happened. We do not admit it ever existed. Yeah Bloodlines sure was a good game. Too bad they never made a sequel. Yup, sure is a shame...

CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT AS RAIDEN. I'm going to watch them again tonight while I sleep just because of that. I love him he's such a "bad" actor, especially in the Highlander movies xD. What an incredible film with some super neat early CGI and even Goro was done with a lot of practical effects!!

Saaaame, the Diva Dance (and a really cool live cover of it I'd love to show you sometime) are on my playlist all the time, most of the soundtrack is. I always found Ruby Rod to be extremely uncomfortable but Chris Tucker is so funny and I already knew him from the Rush Hour films.

Hahaha yes!! Linden Ashby played him perfectly in the first movie, with Sonya and Liu and everyone really cast so perfectly. I do agree it's sad to see the over-marketing take away from the Girl-power and rough n tumble nature that Cassie has earlier on. I found that to be the same with Kano, he went from what should have been a disgusting predator into more of a cool Australian guy xD

I think you'd really like the Castlevania show - it's based loosely on the games but I will be honest it's depiction of the church is NOT ideal to say the least. Although if you know the lore of the games that shouldn't be a surprise.

Haven't seen the new ones either - to me, "New" movies came out ten years ago and anything after that hasn't passed the test of time for me yet - I'm still watching Blade, Braveheart, Gladiator, Dances with Wolves, Fifth Element of course, Robocop, Judge Dredd etc etc. Although my very favourite film is "Jesus of Nazareth" from I think.... 1976? It's my favourite depiction of Jesus and the Faith of the centurion as well which is a deeply personal part of the Bible to me.

er ok but its the Sword of the Lord which is His word.

It's a metaphor, not a literal sword.

Also, there was a phrase don't know if you ever heard of it 'the pen is mightier than the sword' meaning, that the written word is actually a lot more powerful weapon than a sword could be.

A sword is just a giant knife.

Butchers and cooks all use knives to cut food and they need to cut it/divide it in the correct way. That is why the Bible has that metaphor/figure of speech dividing sword and spirit...I can look up the reference for you if you want.
