No...people like different things for different reasons. The realm of video games is HUGE. Some you enjoy, some you don't. is this being judgmental? Or passively judgemental?

Is there like some kind of video game award like there is a books awards? Actually I HAVE been a judge for a book award - it was on a panel for children's books - we had to read them and cast our votes, and we didn't always agree on which ones were good or not. That is to be expected. We aren't judging the READERS, just the books.

There was also a criteria that we used to judge the books on. Is this healthy? Not healthy?

In this thread we talk about what games we like or not like to play, and how to play them, plus a whole lot of other things. I'm not the only one on this thread.

We may not agree with each other (because not everyone plays the same games, reasons being...they could be expensive, don't have time, etc some games make me frustrated and want to throw up, but hey, not EVERY book you read is gonna be good is it? Some books are so bad, you want to chuck them against the wall or burn them. Or maybe just not read them, and read other books instead. NOBODY is forcing you to like a game. I probably would not last 5 minutes on the games some people like to play.

Just like some people can not get through a book I'd love to read.

Apparently I am not healthy and must be sick

Too much Hello Kitty Island Adventure? So far, I've quite enjoyed it. I haven't got too frustrated with it, actually I have discovered the Merry Meadows, which is a new area on the island reached through beneath a waterfall.

It has been pretty chill and the quests are interesting. I would estimate there must be about 11 different parts to it as it did say I had 4/11 achievements so far. My next task I think I will do is unlocking all the pink chests with a coral key that I've fashioned from picking up trash underwater and put into the recycling plant.

Passive judgement is rude and deceitful - you can simply state your opinions and whether someone agrees or not is up to them. Healthy judgement comes from Christ who says very clear we are to Judge as we wish to be judged and to take the Stick/log/plank out of our own eye before trying to remove the speck from another person's eye.

But, like I said right at the beginning, the way you phrase your comments is inherently not healthy because you aren't engaging with the person, even now with me. You are fundamentally misunderstanding my point - I never said or implied you or anyone else had to like or not like or play or not play anything. So let me be clear - I gain NOTHING from this conversation and my entire purpose in continuing it is to help and correct a sister in Christ.

Correcting something I have noticed across your comments: passive judgement, which like passive-aggression is unhealthy because you should simply state how you feel and move on. For example even here: "?!" What do you accomplish by loaded, rhetorical questions like earlier? Nothing. You build no fellowship, you don't form a connection or state something clearly to help someone else.l under you or understand them better.

Judging children's books is entirely unrelated and again - another pointless loaded question that accomplishes nothing. Like you said you were judging the books but in this thread you weren't judging the games, the question you asked, paraphrasing was: "How could someone enjoy this type of game? What is the appeal?" Then you stated how someone would need a Deus Ex Machina to dump water on them/ their computer in order to stop. You said that. I didn't make it up. So please don't move the goal post.

It's sarcastic, back handed and superior - all things Jesus would not approve of. So yes it is unhealthy, and again, don't mix my words, I NEVER said YOU were unhealthy. I said that passive-judgement is unhealthy and that is simply a fact. It seems to be so ingrained into you that you characterize it as normal conversation but NO ONE else I have spoken to speaks/types that way. Not unless they are being passive-aggressive or judgemental.

It's a stigma thing. Like drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes or cussing or picking your nose or taking a shower less than X times per week or something.

See, if there is a stigma about something, and if you don't do it, then people who DO do it automatically feel like you are being judgmental when you say you don't do it. In most cases it doesn't make any sense - you do what you wanna do and I do what I wanna do - but it happens anyway.

So when you say you don't like games where you run around shooting people, those who do like those games reflexively reply as though you were saying it's wrong for THEM to play those games too.

There's nothing really to be done about it. You shouldn't try to pretend you do like games you don't like, and there's no real reason to keep quiet about preferring what they call "cozy" games. It just is what it is.

Lanolin doesn't pick up on a lot of social cues. (Side effect - if you make a joke you will probably have to explain it to her because she won't get it.) This IS her simply stating her points. You'll get used to it after a while.

Now if most people stated things the way she states them, yes it would be them being holier-than-thou. But from long experience I can tell you that this is not Lanolin being holier-than-thou. It's just Lanolin talking like Lanolin.

She DOES do exactly as you describe. But I knew she won't be corrected so I keep quiet. But it's nice to know I'm not the only one who sees it.

I was not correcting Lanolin's character or what she enjoys - only how she speaks to other people on here and considering that SHE said that "people always think I'm judging" then the common denominator is most likely her. It is my place as her brother in Christ to correct this behavior because it is negative, unnecessary and unchristian. I see no grace, love or compassion in her questioning and unless of course they are a person with some kind of Autism it is 100% their responsibility to grow and change as a person. Again - 100% completely and beyond a shadow of a doubt NOTHING to do with her choice of gaming. ONLY the way she responds to me and a couple others I have seen. That's it. I like and see the value in cozy games too and acknowledged the downfalls of violent video games but that is not the point I am making even remotely.

I think you're not totally understanding the historical context of how there were Christians who tried to push to either outlaw or censor Video Games in the 90s, especially with the use of pseudo science to justify the banning.

in another sense those people showed that they learned nothing from the "Prohibition Era" of America that made things worse and a lot of people died.

Ever since, a minority of people have been trying to slander video games as "Dangerous Media" when the research doesn't show it, but it's important to realize that these people have still tried to influence some kind of scare in the public, even when it seems most people reject the fear mongering.

So understand why I and a lot of people will seem harsh on such comments.

Speaking of which, I was curious as to whether anyone here got into role-playing or board games.

I grew up during all the major controversies over gaming, like Mortal Kombat and Dungeons and Dragons.

I had a boyfriend whose friends got together every weekend to play D&D. While I never got into playing, I would bring something else to do (writing letters, etc.) and listen while the game went on.

Something that always struck me was how talented the DM (Dungeon Master) had to be in leading and basically telling/making up the story of each game, which seemed like its own episode. Another guy in their group was heavily into Axis & Allies, which I thought was interesting because it required a lot of strategic thinking.



I went to a Gen Con gaming convention with my then-boyfriend and some friends -- but my main interest was the vendor booths, because I loved looking at all the fantasy merch and artwork.

And while I didn't get into the gaming itself, Dungeons and Dragons was my favorite cartoon of all time, and I was devastated when it was canceled. (I loved the second season where they delved a lot deeper into each character's personality and story arc -- I wanted to learn more about each one!!)

I want to get into those, I recently bought and started painting Warhammer 40,000 Orks for Kill Team, I also want to get into some kind of Table Top RPG but I don't know where to start.

I must confess to getting into some of the Mortal Kombat rip-off cutscene movies, like Killer Instinct.

It's just that the stories and characters are so interesting!

Like with TJ Combo and how his victories were all due to technological enhancements paid for by the Big Evil Corporation, who comes to collect their fee -- in the form of wanting him to throw a fight.

But, TJ, addicted to always winning, he refuses.

I find stories with morally gray characters interesting because you really don't know who to root for (if anyone,) but if the story is good enough, you're invested in how it turns out either way.

Where else would I have learned to occasionally "yell" (type), "C-C-C COMBO BREAKER!!" at Lynx during some our "fights"?!

(I remember when I did this a long time ago and Lynx wrote, "How would a normal person (i.e., not a gaming nerd) like you know about something like that?!")

This sounds to me like a Windows 11 driver or scripting issue for sure, those Kernel systems are made of a lot of spaghetti code which is difficult to work on and Windows 11 (like every update frankly) is notorious for causing audio/graphic artificacting. Do you know how to set your CPU affinity? Windows 11 is set to think that your CPU has 15 threads which is usually not the case (usually we have a max of 6 to 8.) I can explain how to change your affinity and also recommend opening any and all games you play as an administrator just to rule those out as well.

Did you ever figure out what's going on with my computer?

Also, I've been wondering if I should finally upgrade to Windows 11, I've stayed on 10 because I like my performance and I want my stuff to work properly lol
