I also remember Ultraman and Johnny Sokko. There was a monster on Ultraman that scared me to death as a child. It was the sound that he made that scared me. I had to cover my ears or run from the room. It's so stupid now, but back then....for some reason, nothing that I'm seeing and hearing is ringing as bell for me on this sight.

The atmosphere. That's why I listed the Old Dark House in the OP. It was a very old, but a rainy night with a bowl of popcorn in the fall kind of movie. I like the movies "African Queen", and "The Grapes of Wrath" for the same reasons, but in a different way. The old Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies had that atmosphere had that sense of adventure to them also.

I like African Queen, but especially Grapes of Wrath. I've seen it many times, always a good movie to watch. It definitely excels as a stupendous movie, imo.
While I haven't seen a lot of the movies Mr. Harryhausen worked on, I do remember liking Clash of the Titans (and being totally freaked out, yet completely fascinated by Medusa!)
I've watched several videos about his work, because it was so groundbreaking.
One of my favorite movie Easter Eggs is in Monsters Inc., when Celia is thrilled that Mike (Wazowski) managed to snag dinner reservations for the two of them at "Harryhausen's" -- the impossible-to-get-reservations for restaurant in Monstropolis -- named specially as a tribute to Mr. Ray Harryhausen.
Release the Kraken! The Kraken ruled. Medusa was cool too. It's funny how the old techniques seem to make better monsters in movies. It's like the modern ways, the computer generated imagery, like A.I. look cheesy too, but in a bad way.
Clash of the Titans was considered the grand finally of the old ways, the old techniques. I remember seeing a documentary on how the original King Kong was made from a DVD Extra. They used a clay model, then took a picture, then they would slightly move the model, and take another picture... Eventually they would have a movie. That's why they have the strange jerky movement. I believe that same technique was used in Clash of the titans.

Oh yes I did see Monsters Inc but the monsters in that movie weren't even scary.
King Kong (Peter Jackson's version) was scary or rather more creepy. Esp the island with all the skulls.
Scream wasn't scary it was more funny, though I can't remember any actual monsters in it.
I remember Michael Jacksons' Thriller music video is considered a 'film' by him...the zombie bit is a bit freaky, but its more like Teen Werewolf than a real scary movie.
Little Shop of Horrors I remember the man eating plant, Audrey.
Gremlins was actually scary when cute, fluffy Mowgli spawned all those scaly monsters.

Was also freaked out by Medusa! Such a creepy scene to see as a kid. Guess that's why it's stuck with me. Now I appreciate all the painstaking work that went into it.

We would go on vacations to my aunt's house in Ohio. I looked forward to watching Hullahan and Big Chuck that had their comedy skits during commercials.
My first model was my favorite monster, the Wolf Man. I still have it in storage, painted nicely.

Little John was part of the cast when Hoolahan and Big Chuck started the show. I forgot what happened to Hoolahan, but Little John became Chuck's co-host later.

I love the old ethnic humor that used to be allowed. A lot of Ohio is Polish like Big Chuck so he had a great time with Polish humor. His audience loved it.
The only dog I remember is the one who challenged Mushmouth Pacetti and lost based on a technicality in a pizza eating contest.
"Mushmouth" Mariano Pacetti officially won the contest by default.
His challenger on Cleveland’s famous Hoolihan and Big Chuck show was a 65-pound German shepherd named Chris "The Fairview Fireball". Chris easily out-ate the legendary champion, inhaling a fully loaded medium pizza in less than 30 seconds.
However, the judges consulted the official rulebook—specifically invoking a technicality that required all competitive eating contestants to be human. Because of this rule, Chris was disqualified, and Pacetti retained his title as the reigning pizza-eating king.
