Christians don't celebrate the witchcraft holiday, but the tares sure do!
Make a thread with "witch" in the title and the witch hunt begins!

You'd have been right at home in Salem back in the day. They were real big on making themselves look all holier than thou too.

So... if I dress up like Frankenstein's monster, I'm a satan worshipper? How does that add up?

Only those who are led by the Holy Spirit are the sons of God - Romans 8:14
The Holy Spirit is not leading anybody to participate in any celebration of evil

But, the devil masquerades as though he were the Holy Spirit to deceive people in to engaging in celebration of evil so that's the only reason why you would be dressing up as Frankenstein's momma or whatever other evil character that floats your boat.

Every year here on CC, you'll see the same pattern.

Someone will post about Halloween, and plenty of well-intentioned believers will then blast that person for celebrating a pagan holiday, as if everyone in the forum doesn't have any common sense about celebrating holidays (or not) without realizing the topic is often brought up as a joke, because it's so predictable as to how things will go. The same will happen at Christmas, so hold on to your horses, because there's always a sequel.

One year I wrote a thread combining talk of Halloween AND Christmas because it was like, "Ok, let's save everyone some time and just get all the condemnation out in one go!"

You can set your watch to it every year. Those who've been here a while know to look for it, and those who are new don't yet realize what a tradition it's become.

One year Lynx actually went back and found as many "Halloween is Pagan" threads from past years as he could and bumped them all. It was pretty funny because we all woke up to like 15 threads at the top of the page, all in a row, with each one preaching the evils of Halloween. Some well-meaning people hooted and hollered that Lynx should be banned.

For me, it's all about what one celebrates, why they do so, and how they do it.

The churches I've been to have all had their ways of turning Halloween into a way to witness to the community. One had what they called "Hallow Him" and invited the families in the area to go Trunk Or Treating in the church parking lot, where members dressed up the trunks of their cars with a theme and handed out candy and gospel info to anyone who stopped by. Kids were invited to dress up. Great fun was had by all.

Another church I was in (and no, I'm not shopping for churches -- I've moved around a lot to look after family) had a big event that was meant to parallel pop culture superheroes. Instead of Spider Man and Super Man, there were stations set up revolving around the stories of people from the Bible, such as David and Goliath.

Neighborhood kids were invited to dress up in costumes and stop at each station to get some candy and a Bible story to go along with it.

So if it's an event where I could dress up like Hello Kitty, pass out candy to kids, and contribute to families having fun and learning about Christ at the same time? Absolutely.

Then you have other people who do things like rent a hotel room, perform a bunch of rituals that shall remain unnamed, don't even bother to clean up afterwards, and make the headline news the next day when the maids come in and find everything (true story from my hometown.)

It's all about the intent of the heart and how those intentions are carried out.

And this was just the Halloween edition!!

We'll see y'all back here for the exact same argument at Christmas (and Easter, and any other holiday that people like reminding others is heathen.)

Another holiday I always like to mention is Purim, which from what I've read, seems to combine many things from Halloween and Christmas (costumes, special food, gifts, and decorations.) For some reason, I've never seen anyone blast that holiday here but there's always a first time for everything. (Plus, it's a big place and maybe someone HAS told everyone they're pagan for celebrating Purim, and I just missed it.)

Feel free to set your watches -- anyone here who has seen this happen year after year (after year) can almost guarantee it.

I found the old thread I mentioned in this post.

For anyone's curiosity and convenience, I shall now go over and bump it to the top.

Hi brother Scooterjackson! I have to thank you straight away as you (unintentionally, or maybe by divine hand) taught me something I never knew... cause my past learning was created in foggy-learning as a child... I didn't know what tares were literally... (I perhaps conflated with chaff) that they were what we in the modern world call the Bearded Darnel plant, that mimics wheat plants and carries a fungus that produces a poisonous toxin to humans. Referenced in Mat 13.

Furthermore, @Lynx ... see what happens?

Scooter, I for one support you in your campaign to root out heretic tares like Lynx... put those words together and you get "hares"... not unlike a... lynx!! Many times I've called the inquisitors to cook some medium rare. (:p @Lynx). Unless you're an insane homicidal maniac, in which case I want to make clear I'm just kidding.

In all seriousness... this gets debated here every Halloween. Hold fast to your faith. Nobody is beckoning you to violate your convictions. As Paul says in Rom 14...

"Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall.
...
One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
...
You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
...
I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean."

If you can do this with Spam, just think what you can make with an oversized hunk of Babyloney!!!

Because this thread is obviously crawling with it. 😎

Lol!

We've ALL been campaigning to get @Lynx to behave ever since he got here...

@Sculpt -- How many more years do you reckon we have to let pass before we just give up?!

He calls himself a Lynx but he's more like The Roadrunner -- can't be slowed down -- and can't be run over! 😜😆

Boloney is ok, but it comes in such large quantities these days -- both literally and metaphorically -- I tend to avoid it in all forms whenever possible.

SPAM... ARGH.

To me it always looked a bit like a mass of Play Doh... But after you've made all the pretend burgers and fries and tomatoes and lettuce and milkshakes -- then never touched any of it again because all the colors wound up being mushed together in an unappealing marbled blob.

And, contrary to popular (but unverified) belief, no picture of me in a Hello Kitty costume currently exists.

(I'm always sure to scrub every last trace of evidence.)

Er, I mean...

Truthfully, I've never dressed up as Hello Kitty -- I haven't dressed up as anything since I was 14 and went Trick Or Treating for the last time -- with my Mom! (She wore a mask and puffy jacket and didn't speak, so none of the neighbors recognized her.)

She didn't want any of the loot, so the last Halloween I fully participated in ended with me having double candy! 😆Woo hoo!

(However, I think some of it is probably still stuck around my hips and never fully left.) :(

We can't give up on Lynx! We should put on a show to raise money and awareness of "the Lynx Behavior". We can sell spamcicles and produce a play about how Hello Kitties learn to not tell anyone about shaving anything in return for a big juicy steak!

What did you dress up as the time ur mum came with as a masked silent partner?

Not sure the last time I dressed up... I remember for a youth group event I dressed up as a gangster, black suit with a white tie. I didn't have a white tie so I used a gym sock... wear the higher part of the sock was ribbed, I tightened a string around it to give it that classic tie shape. It got me my first GF, and first kiss a few days later. 😋

This is my goto look for 'that night of the year'....a blushing bride😘 I even went as a bride to my church's HarvestFest and hate to say it but I wound up being the center of attention, sorry kids😂 People even asked if they could take pictures of me with their kids!
This is close to my attire, had a veil and bouquet of course. Being a widow, I was dressed up in the bride dress one time and my daughter and her boyfriend came over. She said 'mom.....what's going on?' lol. It took her a minute.
