Hebrews 5:9 - And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him
In regard to
Hebrews 5:9, I often hear works-salvationists cite this verse in an effort to try and support salvation by works/works righteousness. Now only believers have obeyed Him by choosing to believe the gospel (
Romans 1:16) in order to become saved, and only believers obey Him after they have been saved through faith by practicing righteousness and not sin. (
1 John 3:9,
10)
In either sense, only believers obey Him.
Unbelievers/make believers have not obeyed Him by refusing to believe the gospel (
Romans 10:16) and without faith it's impossible to please God (
Hebrews 11:6), so unbelievers/make believers do not obey Him no matter how much "so called" obedience that they attempt to conjure up from an unregenerate heart in a vain effort to receive salvation by works. (
Matthew 7:22-23)
In either sense, unbelievers/make believers do not obey Him.
The question becomes, can a person obey the devil and still be saved?
1 John 3:7 - Little children, make sure no one deceives you;
the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; 8
the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. 9
No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 By this the children of God and the
children of the devil are obvious: anyone who
does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who
does not love his brother.
It's weird that more and more people are advocating for disobedience which is advocating for living in opposition to the Lord being a servant of the devil. Very weird but it shows we are in the last days where deception abounds.
Who are all these people? It's weird that you are so obsessed with this subject. You seem determined to indict as many people as possible on the charge of advocating for disobedience and being a servant of the devil, even if that means resorting to slander.
Romans 6:16 - Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
In regard to
Romans 6:16, there are only two kinds of servants in this world, in the spiritual sense:
servants of sin unto death, (descriptive of unbelievers/make believers) or
servants of obedience unto righteousness. (descriptive of believers)
When we place our faith exclusively in Jesus Christ for salvation/believe the gospel by trusting in His finished work of redemption as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation we then
become "servants of obedience unto righteousness." Being servants of sin is put in the past tense. Paul goes on in
Romans 6:18 -
"Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness."
Notice in
Romans 10:10 - For with the
heart (not just with the head) one
believes unto righteousness.
Notice in
Romans 4:5 - But to him who does not work but
believes on Him who justifies the ungodly,
his faith (not works)
is accounted for righteousness.
