If you have an abusive relationship in the past, or present, a support group is essential. People tend to repeat the mistakes they made going into previous such relationships and it becomes important to recognize where one is making a misstep. It does not cure all the problems, but it does reduce the total number.

And you are in a small town in Michigan, I hope it is not Lenawee County, I have a lot of relatives there, all with deep Michigan roots, pioneer family roots., and most live in small towns. There are lots of other relatives scattered around Michigan, but I tend to mostly concentrate on Lenawee County ones as my mother grew up there, so I met many while visiting my grandparents.

Differences in intelligence may or may not be an issue in a relationship. Relatively similar levels of intelligence are nice, but not necessary. But do not shortchange yourself, your husband married an intelligent woman, let him stay married to one.

As for Bbile study, there is a Bible Discussion Forum here, just about any theological stance you might be familiar with is likely present, as well as a few very different ones such as mine. I have studied the bible for over 50 years with a lot of emphasis on the "difficult" passages rather than on doctrines, as I was taught that if there is a problem, smoothing it over can create bad doctrine, but finding a way to resolve it in line with other such "problem" passages and those passages without clear issues. should lead one closer to the truth. It has not been easy, but I have gained respect from many who have been restricted in what they can say by having accepted some institution's "Statement of Faith", which limits what they can say, and thus do not delve too deeply. I just regret that my maverick attitude has kept me from some positions I would have liked to have held.
Thank you so much 🙏 I totally agree with you. I have had great and productive counseling over the years. I take care of my mental health 💯

There are differences in intelligence in my marriage. Especially Emotional IQ. Unfortunately, I am more educated and have bigger life experiences than my husband. We do not relate and also, we had opposite upbringings.

What you said about your studies of the Bible is very interesting. I also agree. I am new to reading it. I have read only some of John and more of Psalms, which I love.

It sounds like your marriage could benefit from counseling, if your husband would agree, but based on my experience and your comments about comparative education and Emotional IQ, I suspect he would feel threatened by the idea.

I love John, I did a long independent study on it when I was a senior in college. I spotted some things I still believe are present, but I have found that I missed much because I simply did not have the education to spot it, and I likely would still have missed it because I was too traditional. I tend to agree with those who claim that John (and Mark) were edited at some early time, I find that John was likely majorly rewritten by the apostle, likely about 20 years after the original author's death at the hands of the Romans, not the Jews as tradition states (yes I am thinking of a specific person). But I now see strong links between John and Paul. In Psalms I also differ with tradition, especially regarding psalms 23, 77 and 82, but my favorite part of the OT is the prophets, it is a generational thing, Vietnam era people, especially men who faced the draft, tend to like the prophets more than generations before or after.

I really appreciate your feedback. It is very helpful and non-biased.

We started marriage counseling a couple of weeks ago. But since I am looking for a job, our finances are in the negative and we have to resume sessions once we are able to. The first session was very beneficial we both agreed.

You definitely know and have studied the Bible! I am so very new to it. I have heard it in church and I have read very little so far. It is why I would prefer an online group Bible Study.

I checked into those 2 groups today, but it appears that I need a Ticket to join. Meetup is the app. And now it has gone to paid memberships. Ugh.

I will keep looking to see on there if there are any free groups that would benefit me.

I am not a quitter. I am a Survivor. Breast Cancer, PTSD, End Stage Liver Failure and I have been sober almost 6 years from alcohol! November 6th.

Praise Jesus!! 🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️

I have been in Alpena County twice and have found it to be beautiful. Back in the 70's I stayed at a motel there that had numerous bird feeders and deer came fairly close in every night. It was delightful, as was going to the Lumberman's Memorial.

Very nice 😊 It is so beautiful up here in the summer. I wonder if that motel looks the same. Lol. Not many upgrades to some buildings up here. But I do love Downtown Alpena.

... the Bible! I am so very new to it.

^ Gospel of John is often recommended as a great place to start reading the Bible.
This movie is a word-for-Word portrayal of John's gospel.

Also, please check out the Alpha Course.

There are 10 videos total, answering a lot of questions about faith, Christianity historically and in the modern
world, the estate of man, and God's design for humans. I hope you watch them. They could benefit you greatly
.:)

I was baptized after completing the Alpha Course. I had been on the fence for a while after years of seeking and God having revealed Himself to me before that, but had begun attending church and then one thing led to another, and before you know I am thinking, gee, this course is designed to convince people of the Truth of God's revealed written and Word and then BAM! I suddenly realized I needed no more convincing. LOL. I am only a little slow. Hehee. I was almost 50 at the time. Maybe a little slower than a little ;)😊🤣

I might have to try and find an excuse to get back up that far in Michigan again. But I am n ot certain that I am ready for the likely changes. 50+ years is a lot of time for there to be no changes.

But at least I have added three quarts of good tasting chili to my winter's supplies. I know it tastes good because I ate roughly a quart already. Now to relax until next week when the temperature drops again to do serious cooking, I don't want to warm up the house when it is warm outside, that is a waste, but baking a lot or using a pressure cooker to can just serves dual purposes, food prep and heat.

And if your education extends to the Greek classics, think about Euripides when you read John's gospel, or Homer's Iliad when reading Luke and Virgil's Aeneid when reading Acts. I would be surprised if you were familiar with Augustus's Res Gestae, but it reminds me of Mark with dialogue added.

Yes, there are some changes in Alpena, but not a lot. Downtown has the most changes than the outskirts. Lol.

It sounds like you are getting well-stocked for the cold months regarding your cooking. Wonderful!

I have not gone too far into books in my adulthood but I have always been interested in the Greek classics.
