Hi there all. This is my first post!
I've been wanting to chat a bit about this. I was in various Arminian churches for many years and when God opened my eyes I started going to a Baptist church which is mostly Calvinistic. In my 7,5 years there, there are so many things that I have questioned.
How do people really know they are born again and that you are in fact part of the elect? I do know that we will be known by the fruit in our lives. But young Christians I think have a huge struggle. I know I initially did have and I consider myself a mature Christian. However, they shove so much into your head - you are depraved, undeserving (I know that). You said the sinners prayer... oh gosh, just so much.
There is so much knowledge also shoved down your throat, I am beginning to wonder if they are in fact legalistic as they tend to judge people on various points and you have to do things a certain way etc. Yesterday, looking at something, there is so much focus on man - Luther, Calvin, Spurgeon and many more - they have a lot to offer, but really.
okay I sound kinda messed up, and I am in a sense, but right now just trying to get my focus onto Christ and off of all their doctrinal issues. Any assistance will be appreciated. It would be nice to chat to someone who is/has been in the same boat.
People will struggle the most when they are a new Christian and the young more.
Which we grow in Christ and of course that means to be Christlike like Him.
America is very selfish and arrogant and love money and material things and sin and the children grow up with that so it may be rough for them to change quickly.
For the way of the American society is ingrained in them twisting around their soul like a vine.
But there is no excuse for the Bible says a Spirit led person will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
So the power is there so it is required.
1 Corinthians 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
I am of Joseph Smith, what are you crazy for I am of Martin Luther, you better back off punk for I am of John Calvin, shut your mouth before I give you a whooping that you will never forget for I am of John Smyth, you better hope I do not catch you outside for I am of John Wesley, oh you are a heathen talking that smack for I am of Charles Taze Russell, and so on.
Many people cling on to what people say as truth without checking it out themselves.
But we have to take the responsibility to check it out ourselves and not rely on what they said.
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
God gives the same wisdom to all people that want it and no person is privileged to know more than another.
The preacher is not blessed to have more knowledge than a common pew sitter.
People who go by what people say and do not look in to it themselves are not doing what God wants them to do.
Stop looking up to a person.
Calvinism is false.
1 Timothy 2:5 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
God wants all people to be saved so we have a choice in our salvation since all people will not be saved.
Matthew 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
God does the calling and choosing on earth.
If God chose who would be saved in the beginning without their choice then why is He calling people on earth but not choosing them.
So we have a choice in our salvation.
When God calls a person according to their heart condition He will work in their life to get them to the truth.
And when they get to the door of truth if they get there then they have to make the choice to accept the truth for God's kingdom is true love.
But they would of not got to the door of truth if God did not intervene in their life.
Not everybody that is called accepts the truth so they are not chosen.
2 Timothy 3:4 Traitors, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
These people will not let go of the flesh and love sin more than God.
They believe they cannot abstain from sin and hold on to sin so the blood of Christ cannot wash away their sins.
These people do not accept the truth so they are not chosen.
Calvinism fits this category.
Calvinism believes that human beings cannot live a sinless life or completely abstain from sin in this earthly existence because of the fall and the persistence of the sinful nature.
But the Bible says a Spirit led person will not sin.
So if they say they cannot abstain from sin then they are denying the power thereof and not coming to the truth.
Romans 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
God calls things that have not happened yet as though they already happened for if it is a plan of God to happen in the future it is the same as if it happened in the beginning for it will surely come to pass with no hindrance.
Which the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world.
Predestination means that God had the plan of salvation to give to mankind before He laid down the foundation of the world.
But this salvation is to whoever wants it for God wants all people to be saved.
