The land promise to national Israel, contrary to what you have been told, was absolutely fulfilled under Joshua.
The people were not all driven out, but the land was conquered,
and that was the promise.

Joshua 11:15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; HE LEFT NOTHING UNDONE of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

Joshua 11:23 So Joshua TOOK THE WHOLE LAND, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

The land covenant that was given to Abraham was fulfilled under David and Solomon:

2 Samuel 8:3 David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.

1 kings 4:21 And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.

Here is what Nehemiah had to say about it all.

Nehemiah 9:7 Thou art the Lord the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
8 And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast PERFORMED THY WORDS; for thou art righteous:

Nehemiah 9:23 Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.
24 So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.

You're going to make me repeat myself AGAIN?!

And yet I have already shown you from Joshua 13:6 where Jesus said HE would be the one to fulfill and complete the job so that they could possess ALL the land. The Bible tells you that a day would come when there would be absolutely be no more Canaanites in the land, that didn't happen in the book of Joshua.

Joshua 13:6 - All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

No, Joshua 13:6 was not completely fulfilled during the period of Joshua’s leadership or the subsequent conquest under the Judges, as the Israelites failed to fully drive out the remaining inhabitants due to incomplete obedience.
  • Conditional Promise: God’s promise to drive out the Sidonians and hill country inhabitants was conditional upon Israel’s fidelity; because they failed to maintain this covenant, the promise remained unfulfilled.
  • Partial Subjugation: While the power of the Canaanites was broken, they were not fully dispossessed; the Sidonians were only brought into a state of comparative subjection during the reigns of David and Solomon, but they were never entirely expelled.

And in case you're still forgetful and can't remember where the Lord said there would be no more Canaanites in the land, here it is...

Zechariah 14:21 -

21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.

No you will have to stop repeating yourself now, because your case is not valid.

God gave them that land and they conquered and possessed it.
God did not promise that they would drive all the people out, and is not bound to your murderous predictions.
Nehemiah says that God has performed His words in this regard,
Yet it seems that your hatred of the people of the Middle East has not yet been satisfied even 3000 years after the event.
This is religious extremism in the name of Jesus.

Joshua 13:6 says otherwise. The Bible tells you the boundary lines of what the promised land was and God/Jesus said He would give it to Israel as a possession. And Joshua 13:6 tells you which countries God/Jesus is going to drive people out of HIMSELF in order to give it to them.

I don't hate the people of the Middle East, I just know what God/Jesus promised to Israel, and you would be wise to listen to God.

Your hatred for Israel and the Jews is what keeps you from being able to accept God/Jesus and His Word.

Does that mean you believe Jesus when He says:

Luke 24:44 - And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Are you going to cower in a corner and reject God's Word too?! What kind of theologian or mentor does that make you?

Zechariah 13:8-9

8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

So, now, @Beekeeper and @OMC, are you going to continue to reject God's word on that?!

Not exactly relevant to whether or not the land promises to Abraham and national Israel were fulfilled though is it?

I already showed you how Joshua 13:6 has NOT been fulfilled and I've already shown you how it will all go down in Zechariah 13:8-9.

You and OMC act as though the Bible didn't tell us already that Jesus was going to be returning to earth with the wrath of God, because He is God.

The Bible explicitly states that Jesus returns in wrath and executes God’s judgment, particularly in the book of Revelation. Key verses describing this event include:

  • Revelation 19:11-16: Describes Jesus on a white horse, called "Faithful and True," judging and making war. It states that from his mouth comes a sharp sword to strike down the nations and that he treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
  • Revelation 19:15: Reiterates that he will rule them with a rod of iron and tread the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
  • 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8: States that the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel.
  • Revelation 6:16-17: Depicts the terror of this day, where people cry out for mountains to fall on them to hide them from the wrath of the Lamb and the day of their wrath.
  • Matthew 24:30-31: While less explicit on "wrath" in the immediate text, it describes his coming with power and glory to gather the elect, a context often linked with the judgment of the wicked in parallel passages like Isaiah 66:15-16, which describes the Lord coming with fire and sword to render anger with fury.

Are you going to reject those verses too??!!

In other words in both your eschatology and mine the everlasting land and circumcision covenants with Abraham have spiritual fulfillment not earthly.
You have added your 1000 year millennial kingdom, but 1000 years is not eternity so you have no grounds for objection to a heavenly fulfillment to these everlasting promises.

Correct 1000 yrs is not eternity but that is what was believed. That's the point.
Now I want to show you something very simple to understand and we all know this out line of the prayer that Jesus gave to us.

Thy kingdom come....thy will be done on earth....as it is in Heaven.

you and others here keep pointing to spiritual concepts so may I ask you what is heavenly fulfillment?
where in scripture does it say Jesus restores anything in heaven, who did jesus redeem in heaven the angles?
all of the restoration, all of the redeemed, the sacrifice, all of it is on earth...earthly.
God is not imposing his authority he's establishing it. ....In the beginning God created the heavens and earth.
The earth was always Gods. God was always God the almighty.

The scrolls are the deed to the earth. You said they are already opened? When and where for only the sacrificed lamb of God can open.

Yep. God/Jesus is the Creator and He's the Finisher.

As for your statement on the sacrificed "Lamb", let's look at those verses again side-by-side.

Revelation 5:5-7, 9

5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

AND

Revelation 6:16-17

16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

They weren't fulfilled. Not fully. But they will.
Because you see, when established in accord to the parameters of the New Covenant, the Sons of Jacob will never again
suffer to be oustered from the land promised to Abraham and his seed.

BUT......Jacob must, according to prophecy, suffer first the time of his trouble.

Oh and here is your bible study for the day: the 8th mystery, the son of perdition aka man of sin.
Which again amplifies and substantiates the foregoing and stands as proof that the futurist dispensationalist doctrine is undeniably correct.

Act 1:16
Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

Jhn 17:12
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

2Th 2:3
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Rev 16:13
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
Rev 16:14
For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Rev 19:19
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

Joshua himself explicitly denies that all the land had been possessed

This is perhaps the most immediate contextual rebuttal to the misuse of Joshua 11:23.

Joshua 13:1 — KJV

"Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed."
This is the LORD speaking directly to Joshua.

"THERE REMAINETH YET VERY MUCH LAND TO BE POSSESSED."

Not a little land.

Not an insignificant residual territory.

Very much land.

Joshua 13:2–6 then identifies remaining territories, including Philistine districts and northern territories reaching toward Lebanon.

Joshua 11:23 says Joshua took the whole land in the context of his successful campaigns and the distribution of territorial inheritance.

Joshua 13:1 says that much of the promised land still awaited possession.

Both statements must be allowed to stand.

The only coherent reading is that Joshua accomplished the military conquest and allotment appropriate to that stage of Israel's histoy without completing the occupation and expulsion of every remaining population.

Further corroboration appears in:

  • Joshua 15:63: Judah could not drive out the Jebusites from Jerusalem.
  • Joshua 16:10: Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites dwelling in Gezer.
  • Joshua 17:12–13: Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of certain cities.
  • Judges 1:27–36: Numerous tribes failed to remove remaining Canaanite populations.
These passages are not extraneous historical curiosities.

They are the inspired record of the incompleteness of Israel's territorial occupation.

Consequently, Joshua 11:15, which declares that Joshua left nothing undone of what Moses commanded him, must be interpreted according to Joshua's assigned responsibilities and the narrative context. It cannot be made to contradict God's subsequent declaration in Joshua 13:1.

Joshua's faithful completion of his military assignment is not synonymous with the everlasting fulfillment of every provision of the Abrahamic Covenant.

The original Abrahamic promise was considerably greater than Joshua's conquest

Genesis 15:18 — KJV

"Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates."
The covenant identifies an enormous territorial grant.

The promised boundaries:

  • Southern boundary: the river of Egypt (nahar Mitsrayim).
  • Northeastern extent: the Euphrates River.
  • Territory involving ten named peoples in Genesis 15:19–21.
The precise identification of the southern river is debated. It should not simply be assumed that it means either the modern Nile or the Wadi el-Arish without examining the Hebrew terminology.

Nevertheless, the essential point remains: the promise embraces territory far beyond the land actually and permanently occupied by Israel's twelve tribes under Joshua.

Compare Joshua 1:4, which repeats the Euphrates boundary, with Joshua 13:1–6, which describes territory still awaiting possession.

Even more importantly, Genesis 15 cannot be isolated from Genesis 17.

Genesis 17:7–8 — KJV

"And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant..."
"And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."
Two expressions are decisive:

EVERLASTING COVENANT.

EVERLASTING POSSESSION.

A temporary period of military dominance under David or Solomon does not, by itself, satisfy the ordinary meaning of everlasting posession.

And nothing in Genesis 17 specifies that several decades of regional supremacy would permanently exhaust God's obligation to Abraham's descendants.

1. Solomon's tributary empire was NOT identical to Israel's permanent possession of the promised territory

The argument appeals to 1 Kings 4:21:
"And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life."
Notice precisely what is being described.
Solomon exercised sovereignty over other kingdoms, whose rulers paid tribute and acknowledged his supremacy.
The verse does not state that every square mile of those kingdoms had become the permanently settled, tribal inheritance of Israel.
It describes political dominion and tributary relationships. The distinction is recognized in historical commentary on the passage.

Consider the difference:
Under SolomonUnder the Abrahamic promise
Dominion over tributary kingdomsLand given to Abraham's descendants
Foreign populations remained under their own political structuresIsrael receives the land as its inheritance
Tribute and submission to SolomonActual possession of the territory
Dominion throughout Solomon's lifetimeEverlasting possession
Kingdom divided following Solomon's reignCovenant continues through Israel's generations
It is legitimate to recognize the remarkable extent of Solomon's empire as a substantial historical realization of the territorial promise.
What is illegitimate is to insist that this exhausted every remaining obligation of an everlasting covenant.
Consider also 2 Samuel 8:3.
David's military campaign against Hadadezer demonstrates the expansion of Israelite power toward the Euphrates. But campaigning in, conquering, or reducing another kingdom to tributary status does not establish that the territory was permanently inhabited and possessed by Abraham's descendants.
Moreover, Solomon's kingdom fractured shortly after his death.
1 Kings 11:11–13; 12:16–20 document the judgment and division.
An inheritance explicitly promised as everlasting cannot be conclusively disposed of by appealing to a political arrangement that disintegrated after a single reign.

2. Nehemiah 9:8 is being isolated from Nehemiah 9:36–37

This is another serious weakness in the argument.
The opponent quotes:
Nehemiah 9:8 — KJV
"...and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites... to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous."
Certainly God performed His word in bringing Israel into the land.
That is precisely what Nehemiah acknowledges.
But does Nehemiah then say that the Abrahamic Covenant has expired, that permanent possession has been accomplished, or that no further fulfillment remains?

Absolutely not.

Read the remainder of the very same prayer.
Nehemiah 9:36–37 — KJV
"Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it:"
"And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress."
What an extraordinary contrast!

Nehemiah celebrates God's historical faithfulness in giving Israel the land.
Yet he simultaneously laments that Israel is serving foreign rulers in that very land!

This establishes that God's faithful performance of an earlier covenantal promise does not logically establish that Israel had achieved its final and everlasting enjoyment of the promised inheritance.
The text distinguishes the original grant and historical entry from Israel's later dispossession and subjection.
Nehemiah's prayer therefore cannot legitimately be recruited to prove that no future territorial restoration remains.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

Rev 6:6
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

AND

Revelation 6:16-17

16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

--

Notice verse 7 who was on the throne?

I think Beekeeper is questioning his view on eschatology.
A lot of good questions trying to dispute our view has started to become null and void.
I pray God opens up his eyes to the truth here as to the rest.
Being in defense of Israel has become very unpopular as we all know but trying to unsee that which is before our very eyes is quite disturbing.

Nothing should surprise us any more. I just came across someone claiming to be a Christian in another discussion who said the Holocaust was a hoax. Now I know why Psalm1 believes that half of the people claiming to be Christians are nominal Christians who don't understand much of anything. It's a crazy world we live in.

For some (perfectly understandable) reason, the detractors have "departed for a season" after being soundly refuted.

But I expect that they will be back.... :sneaky:

[Luk 4:13 KJV] – 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

Ok I can see that this is pointless.
All I was trying to establish is that Gods promise that Abraham's seed would posses the land was was performed, and you keep running away to another subject.
Driving all the people out of the land is not the same thing as having dominion i.e. possessing the land.
It seems that there is too much arguing between us to be able to communicate something as simple as that now.
