What kind of words have you said to a stranger, or, just someone you didn't know very well.

How did God work through that situation?

Was their transformation? Change? Or, just what happened through this experience that made you think of your life different than before this person came into your life?

There have been a lot of strangers who I have told the gospel to, and many of them were deeply affected by those words. Whether or not they stuck and changed their life, I can't say for sure. I think it's impossible for someone to hear the gospel in love and not have it affect them in some significant way.

Abstract, but I agree AAA+, 1000% , because I believe STRONGLY in the Holy Spirit bringing influence and direction and, of course, help since Jesus said He would give us a 'helper' in His absence from Earth (ascent to Heaven, of course, we know ! :) ) And, to help me the HS is surely helping others too , as I speak, He works. The power of God is sooo great.

I have a story that I can tell about my influence (whose influence ? ;) ) on a stranger. I've done various help things in my life, as the Lord leads, and, God's worked greatly in those situations like a Friday night in downtown Tacoma a few years back. I was there along with a bunch of churches all collaborating to feed soup and drink and a little soul music on a outdoor stage.

Two things happened this night, first, before I began helping serve street people I went for a walk on my own to see what/who was out there. I met a guy who was buff and tough, 6-4, 240, I was not buff like him. Anyway, I said 'Hi' and just made small talk before telling him I was helping with food for meal put on by area local churches. He then said he wanted to teach me a move from karate . I said ok and he proceeded to put me in a headlock after twisting me around. I was helpless but after a couple seconds he let me go. So...that is how that went as I left that area . Probably should think nothing of it, but I thanked God he let me go from a two-second, long duration, headlock .

Leaving there, I was walking back to main church party a couple blocks away. And, on my way back, I met a guy, clothes hanging off him ruffled and uneven, and, breath sauntering the air with alcohol. I decided to stop.

'Hey, hi, how are yoy doing?' , I said.
'Mmman, I am doingfine. Can't youttell,' he said through slurred, disconnected words. 'What youdoing?'
I said I was helping do a meal service, 'you should come over.'

He declined and so I offered to say something more because I believe God does amazing things through us when we are in situations like this.
'You know God,' I asked.
As he told me 'I know of him,' I told him more and after speaking with him 5-10 minutes I left and he thanked me for what I said (I said? ;) )

I helped out with the meal and that Friday night ended. The details are a little sketchy but I know the church did this meal for downtown Tacoma homeless every Friday night and I went back the next Friday and helped. And I went back the next Friday. All this time helping serve food, meeting homeless people, even the buff guy, who I could see was popular with other homeless, showed up. He, I could tell then, was a street people leader, he said hi to me . I went to this Friday night inter-church meal volunteerism event four Fridays in a row and as I was leaving the fourth Friday to go home to my car, there was this guy walking on the sidewalk toward me....

He was smiling, beaming is more like it. His hair together like Tony Danza's (who's the boss 80's tv show) or Robert Pattinson, for those needing someone more recent, or, Joel Osteen look. Point is, this guy was a sharp-dressed man. I mean, every if you girls would be crazy as ZZ Tops' bearded men and wouid like just, like me, thought that this guy COULD NOT be the same guy that I met my first Friday night on the street downtown, drunk as a sailor.

But....

It was !

He just started gushing how God changed his life in the three weeks since I saw him last.
'I am back together with my wife and three kids. I am a mechanic and I am back working at a shop. I just want to thank you for what you said . It helped me see that I could change.'

I should say too he hugged me and I just was thanking God , starting to show tears. I couldn't't fight the feeling inside me anymore.

God is so good, peeps :)

LOL... NOD, you crack me up like no one else. :)

I told this story in another thread... sorry for the repeat :).

I was lying awake one night and can't explain it... something was on my heart about a guy with a cigarette burn on his arm, and that it was self-induced.

About a year and a half later, I met that guy--had no idea it would be him. In fact, I didn't even want to talk to him because I thought he was drunk. But as we talked, among the tattoos, I noticed a small circular mark on his arm.

"What's that mark from?" I asked. "A cigarette burn," he said. "Did you do that yourself?" He just looked at me. "You wouldn't understand..." he said, and looked away.

I turned my arms over (each one had about three gashes on each side), and said, "Why don't you try me." He looked at me for several minutes and then it was like a dam had broken. His dad was actually a pastor and because of various things, he had been running from God for a long time.

We talked a while and he said, "My Dad told me I would meet a Korean girl (interesting because I never mentioned to him that I was Korean)... and now I know why. I know now without a doubt that there is a God." I often wonder about him and pray for him. We didn't keep in touch. And yes, I will never forget that as long as I live. God can use you even while you're going through the worst moments of your life!

Kim that is just awesome!!!!

Kim that is just awesome!!!!

Thanks, Holly! God is amazing.

The funny thing is, I had a lot of my assumptions wrong--I thought he'd be white (he was black.) I thought he'd be the person I was meant to marry (obviously not).

And I thought the mark would be on the right arm, about two inches from the inside of the crook of the elbow. It was in the exact opposite location... about two inches from the top of the left wrist. The other funny thing is that it happened at a club and I usually NEVER go to clubs. I can count on both hands the number of times I've gone. But my friends had insisted I go that night... and I didn't even want to talk to this guy when he started trying to talk to me!! But God can still work... no matter where you are.

And thank goodness God still works even when we don't fully understand it at the time!

Im glad you shared this :)

Green, i owe you a serious one now since you got on me about my sarcasm.

I was 17 and practically a drug addict. I had been doin drugs with a friend for the better part of the night, when it was time for me to go, i got in my car and started driving, whatever i had been smoking really started to hit me and i felt like i was gonna pass out. So i pulled over and got out of my car, the next thing i remember is being carried into a shop by some guy. He put me on the floor and when i looked up there were 4 of them standing over me.
All i can remember thinking is.. oh crap. this is not good, i cant even stand up and im surrounded by four guys.... instead of what i thought was gonna happen, one of them kneels down beside me and says.. i know you've smoked to much. Then he starts praying for me. He sat there with me until i could stand up on my own, then told me God wanted better for me than this. I have no clue what happened after that or even how i got home, but those words and him praying i remember clear as day.

That changed my life... i never did drugs a day after that.

Wow, this just blew me away. Things like that make me think that we probably encounter angels more often than we even know...

WOW, Holly... I hope that whoever those guys were, God has them going around praying for people like mad!! :) And I'm so glad you got back onto a better road for your life--we all like the way you are now (no enhancements necessary!) ;)

Thats awesome, Holly!! Praise the Lord!

Ed, that is an INCREDIBLE STORY!! Thank you for sharing it! :) :)

That is incredible, that is God, the incediblest, :) and, you're welcome, the Lord leads.

God does those kinds of stories every second of the day, zere, including in your life too, even right here on c.c., if you let Him, with the funny quips and vids in your posts made. That is all God needs. You supply the words and the meaning and God will supply His wonder so everyone can get it. For everyone, they can take it or leave it (I suggest you take it, people ;) ), it is unforgettable.

. Think of that story above, how God used me in it, then multiply it by thousands, if not, millions. That is what is most incredible. The life-transforming power of God is the greatest power of all, the greatest Love for us too because it takes moments of others' time quite often, time to stop 5-10 minutes and care for God to show His love to them transformationally. :)

----LOL, Nods. Probably got hooked from something funny you said to him. But, hmm . But think of the history that he could tell you , a lot of stories get made in 67 years ! :D

'Why don't you try me?'

Nice.
Powerful testimony there (on your arms). What Satan meant for evil you made into good. :)

That is incredible, too, of man with cigarette burns on arms 'heart' vision lying awake one night.

Wow.
1.5 years later remembering your 'heartfelt night' and seeing this guy that fit same description. Neat, Seoulsearching. And not just neat, God-neat.....

The steps of the righteous are ordered by God . :)

Beautiful story, Nods. You have a great story to tell ,again and again and.....

God does things like that when we are with Him. YOU must have been with Him still during that trying time because He WAS with you on that near drug-induced coma.

God bless you, Holly, for sharing. See, I just knew you had 'share' in you. :D

There will be times when we don't, in this earthly life, see the results of our words to strangers/people and so we'll have to wait until we get to Heaven to see and appreciate fully the effect they will have had...

Jaybee, well said, and it reminds of the song below. :)

And, indeed, when we are at the gates of Heaven we will be having our book of life read and God and Jesus will , I believe, show us a video of things we did to help others on Earth.

This was a great idea for a thread. I have really enjoyed reading everyone's stories, some of them could still be changing people's lives as they read them.

I'm not someone who talks that much with 'strangers', but I don't even think you have to talk with someone to make a difference. I remember once standing in line at a busy store. Everyone seemed to be in a bad mood and complaining about the service and such. I remember I was smiling (out of habit) and the person in front of me turned back, I said 'hello, how are you?" and the conversation lasted only a few moments, but she was then smiling. It was odd and amazing to watch the line after that because she turned and starting to talking with the next person. It was a chain reaction, the faces and conversations in line changed. The Lord showed me that our countenance really does have an effect on people.

After I made my purchase and was leaving a woman came up to me and randomly said, "I have been watching, you must love the Lord". I was shocked and didn't know what to say other than, 'yes, I do.' I didn't once talk about the Lord, but the lady took it that way. I learned a lot the power of choosing to be positive. Our God is truly a great God! :)
