I don't like to argue...at all. If I become upset about something that I think might lead to an argument, I normally try to stay to myself and give myself time to chill before addressing it, so that it's a discussion and not an argument. Doing this also gives me time to give consideration to the other person's viewpoint as well.
My preferred method, as well. I find that a lot of times, saying nothing for a little while gives you time to word your side/point/feelings more clearly and effectively, or in a way that will strike a chord with the person you're speaking to. And I love the part about giving consideration to the other person's viewpoint... that is, sadly, too easy to forget sometimes. :o

Koop, I've got a verse for both of us: 1 Timothy 4:12 "Let no man despise your youth; but be an example of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

Age has nothing to do with intelligence. If you're right, you're right. Don't let anybody badger you into listening to them JUST because they're older. ;)

You know what? This goes for Kyouken, too, wherever he is right now (someone drag him into this thread, nn-kay?) and all of us younger people. If God is with us... who can stand against us?

Very nice, PopClick.

I was having a discussion with someone today and we were talking about argument styles. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we've all had experience with arguing with people.

How do you idealistically resolve conflicts?

How do you react to someone who is being volatile or emotional when they argue?

Is Being quiet and passively avoiding people uglier than being confrontational?

I dont like to argue, but if im in an argument i try to resolve things with compromise if i can.

If the person im aruging with is getting hysterical and emotional i try to first calm them down. If that doesnt work and there getting more emotional and volatile, i'll say, when your done acting like this, then i'll talk to you.

Sometimes being quiet is the best thing to do. Sometimes confronting it head on is the best thing to do.

Using wisdom during an arguement is always a good idea ;)

Good call on the wisdom. :D

Thank you ALL for your great input. I'm sure it will be of great benefit for a long time to come. :D

Put God first, and things are easier and/or better at the end of the problem.

Act in Love, consider the other person first unless the other person is in conflict with God.

I don't go in here 'cause I'm not 18 :P. If there was something God told me to post here, though, I wouldn't hesitate :D

Thank you, PopClick.

"If God is with us... who can stand against us?" Yes. Just yes.

^^^^^Well, then, I'm glad I dragged ya in here :D^^^^

My arguing style: Listen patiently until they wear themselves out, then calmly ask a question they have a hard time answering. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it's very entertaining to watch :D

I won't get into Snacker's arguing style; it may be permissible, but it's not often expedient ;)

Hahaha I saw a lady do that before. I forget where. Its very effective! lol

If we're talking family: I either don't argue at all (which is the preferable option I choose most), or if the issue keeps recurring and some negativity arises, I will get down to the root of it, I will get down and dirty and dig and get messy until we fix it and I'm confident that there was some growth and gained understanding from both sides during the disagreement that we can all walk away with and be less likely to run into the same bad pattern next time. :) Even if that means I come back half a day later and bring it up again when we're all calmer.
I try to use kindness, and to see things how the other person sees them.

If it's strangers, or people on the internet: Very minimal arguing. I will say my point boldly, and if they disagree, I gauge how open they seem to my point of view. (I think I have gotten pretty good at being able to tell when someone is open or closed.) If they don't seem open, I won't bother and I'll just let them have the last word....though It's tough to walk away if they try and bait me with perceived false assumptions against me.

I avoid debates like a plague. They solve nothing.

I hate arguing with a passion...but I love resolving things with a passion. It's a bit of an internal conflict with me.

The easiest way for me to avoid arguments in the chat room, is just leave the chat room.

I would like to try this out, snackersmommy...

I think your God (mine too) , of course, is calling you to become a Sunday School teacher where you teach kids how great God is . Any argument? :D

^^^^Lol, Mr. Green, how did you know I love kids? :)

Can't say that's something I can argue with, but I haven't received any clear direction from The Big Boss on the matter. Do you know something I don't? :D

May be your calling. I've said it now. Some heads may be gonna roll after I say all this (not Snackers, I love the little ole dude all stuffed with no fluff. ) :D

Just your ability to state your points when challenged is good, from personal readings. , you've expressed opinions of education with catty, others, you've mentioned art creation.

Kids love all this:

And for my argument:

a. My niece loves to show off her creations from Sunday School. She's five.
b. Kids in general love to ask questions and you're good at giving answers, biblically sound ones, from Headquarters and silly answers too.
c. Snackers is quite the topic, I would hate to be the one that ever tried to steal him from you.

I think it would be Clint Eastwoodesque words from your mouth: Make my day :)

The Lord leads.

I don't like arguing because I don't like the person I am or I can be when I do it. I like to have discussions, if I can't have that I just try to keep my mouth shut and think about what I'm gonna say first, or not say anything at all and wait until we are both calm.

Deep breath, and continue lol

Forgive the other person, they are entitled to their opinion, even if it's against what I believe. I have never liked to argue with people, but some will continue even when you tell them that you accept their right to an opinion, they will take that as a cue to continue.

There are times I should of walked away and didn't .......

Anger, well i throw that out of the window, it will only torment you, lead you to say things you do not mean.
