PHIL 4:8 - Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Have you ever noticed that some people tend to gravitate toward the threads that are more negative, discouraging, sensational and/or lewd topics? What does that say to unbelievers who glance at these threads? What message does it send to young people/young christians? How do think that might affect a christian’s walk after a time? What do you open yourself up to when you engage in this activity repeatedly? Do you think the people who do this are praying for the OP and edifying them, or do you think they just enjoy dwelling on such topics? If someone is struggling in a certain area, is it really helpful to them to dwell on it and end up reading 40-50 pages of the same posts/scriptures over and over and over, until the entire forum it’s posted in begins to reek?
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t attempt to help individuals who are truly struggling with an issue IN A TACTFUL WAY, however unpleasant. Life is not a bed of roses and we do need to approach it with clear, not rose-colored, glasses. We are most definitely here to EDIFY, pray for and inform one another; but at what point do we cease to accomplish this and, instead, end up entertaining ourselves at their expense?
I probably need to take a forum break because this is really discouraging to me…
1 THESS 5:11 - Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
EPH 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
ROMANS 14:19 - Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
