Do you lol when you write "lol" ?

When i chat with someone and write "lol" i always wonder if that person is really laughing out loud because i usually smile but when i write "hahaha" you can be sure that i am laughing out loud haha

when you put this " :) " do you really smile?

There are a lot of abbreviations in the world of chat , which ones do you know ?

Which ones do you really do when you write them?
 
All of them. :D
Except this one :9... Because I can't become an otter.
Sadly though, I don't have a face for "biting lip", because I doo that a lot.
 
when I write roflmho, I may not be rolling on the floor, laughing my head off. But nearly there. When I do *face palm, it's because I'm inwardly doing it, and quite often literally doing that.
 
Sometimes I wish we had a "banging head on table" emoticon, because I frequently feel like I need to.

exactly that for me too. 'Lol' is just a place holder for me for a tension reliever or for a 'smiling' light mood. Its crazy how 'lol' is used in text chat. Like in the place of what body language and other parts of communication fill. really, its hard to get across what someone is saying just by the words. Its amazing how much communication isn't just verbal. It's like emoticons represent the unspoken q's we all pick up on in a face to face convo. Like when text chat is happening all the forms of normal convo (verbal, physical, tone, etc.) are expressed verbally. Not even computers can keep humans from expressing themselve the way they wanna be heard lol. ( lol= don't take me too seriously, lol!) ahhaha..i really laughed there.

I had to get used to type ''lol'', but I don't use it that often. When I use it I do laugh, maybe not like crazy, but I do. I type ''hahaha'' more than ''lol '' though because I feel I can express myself more that way , for example haha is a short laugh, while hahahaha is what LOL would originally mean, does that make sense? :) ''lol'' is used as a smile by most people.
And I agree with SpaceCowboy, I don't know about you but a whole conversation without smileys or laughs would make me feel that the person who is talking to me is angry or bored haha.

Nope . LOL means different things , but I don't laugh out loud . Only Piddy is with me usually and I might scare her too much :D

:D = sarcastic humor , most often , but is 'teasing you' too .
I don't use the kidding white emoticon with tonhlgue out much, I figure the green and nice looking sheepshorn green one covers that motey too :D
 
I've wondered this myself too.

Then one day I was on cam-chat with a friend. He responded to something I said with 'lol' but he never actually laughed.

That act in itself made me laugh, because we just type these things without giving thought to what they mean. It really is amusing.

If I respond with just a "lol" to a text/post it's because it actually made me laugh reading it. If I write "lol" after a sentence, it's mainly for sarcasm purposes only....
 
Often I put 'lol' on accident because I used to 'lol' w/o actually laughing. I think I use other internet gibberish but I don't like to catch myself doing it. Peoples behavior rubs off on you.

I agree with that too. It's just kind of blah when a perrson uses no emoticons at all. It makes them harder for me to read. I think emoticons are important if you can't see the other person. They can still say something.

I do laugh when I type "lol" but it's hardly ever actually outloud... "lol" for me just simply means a laugh.

A long time ago I had this friend who would end practically every sentence with "lol". I know she wasn't laughing THAT much...surely...I mean she was a bit crazy..but in a good way. ha.
 
I use lol when I laugh, and sometimes that's outloud. If I capitolize it LOL that means I thought it was really funny. Personally, I think emoticons are fun to use in conversation. It's kinda like showing your facial expressions via binary code.
