The fact that I rarely make my bed really isn't a dirty little secret. I am a very clean and neat person, but making the bed doesn't fall into either of those categories for me.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I wear my work clothes multiple days during the work week (this is obvious to my co-workers) unless they start to smell bad. I also have clothes that I put on after work and a shower, set aside only for after a shower, that I will wear for a few days in a row. This way I usually only have one load of laundry to do a week. HOWEVER, I do change my underwear EVERY DAY lol....so don't get it twisted!

Questions Ive learnt to ask myself in terms of cleanliness, housekeeping and Christian hospitality is this:

Does this house have to be spotless for me to speak love to another person?
No
Will they think Im a bad 'christian' if theres dirty dishes on the kitchen bench?
No
Will I make them feel very uncomfortable if I expect them to follow a rigid set of rules in my house?
Yes
Do I need to make a perfect 3 course meal every day to prove my love of serving others in my home?
No
Would a cup of coffee and a cookie achieve that same purpose?
Yes
Do I need to know how to make cookies from scratch?
No, but nonetheless its an enjoyable skill to develop
Should I expect basic courtesy from guests in my home?
Yes
Should my home be kept clean in a manner that supports basic hygiene?
Yes
Should I allow (very) personal items to be in view of a guest?
No!
Am I allowed to relax and hang out too?
Yes!!

I used to be a neat freak. Its amazing what a few years of depression can do to one's priorities. I still desire to be a neat freak, I just don't have the energy I used to have.

I totally understand that. I am the same way. HUGS!

Actually, sometimes I use housework to counter a feeling of depression. If I make my bed, my room seems that much brighter, and I feel like I accomplished something. It's a simple way to get started making good choices throughout the day. On the other hand...not making my bed leads me to leave my clothes all over it instead of hanging them in the closet...which leads me to having a confusion between used laundry and clean laundry...which leads to me avoiding my room and feeling like a bad person ha ha ha. My dad says someone who is good at cleaning is not someone who eliminates a big mess but someone who keeps a big mess from happening. Funny story though- I am a fantastic housekeeper when I at my apartment, but when I stay with my parents I don't seem to want to clean anything. Is it subconcious "Mama-Always-Does-It-Syndrome?" :)))

I actually do understand this. My mom suffered from depression and didn't care for the house at times as well as my stepdad thought she should, so I began cleaning the house myself as a kid as a way to keep the peace. At some point this turned into an obsession. I'm still a neat freak, but not nearly as bad as I once was.:)

Thank you, MissJennifer! <3

Thanks for understanding, Dianna. I understand your obsession with neatness a little more now too.

That's how I used to be.

I think it's interesting how in some traits we can end up being polar opposites from our parents. My father is a pack rat (not nearly as bad as my grandmother was) it always irritated me as a kid, as a result I tend towards the other extreme. I frequently go through things to weed out the unnecessary stuff.

I never make my bed

I have piles of clothes all over my bedroom floor because i hate hanging them up after i take them off.

There are laundry baskets with clothes exploding out of them because i do laundry, but i dont put it away.

I walk on the backs of my shoes so i dont have to bend down and actually put the effort into putting them all the way on, also when i get home i can literally just kick them into my closet

As soon as i get home i just step right out of my flip flops as im walking, so there are flip flops all over the entrance of my house

I shove things under my bed that i dont feel like picking up

Nothing is ever in the right place because i can never remember which place is the right place to begin with ... so natually my house is disorganized.

I'm a neat freak, I can't sleep without my room being clean... But I get lazy about cleaning my room.
I throw things in a corner or something, and clean it when I'm ready.
I also put off my homework until the day before it's due.

Military families move alot, so we learned to keep only the things that were truly important. Anything above that we gave to someone else who could use it.

My husband was a packrat and I think he enjoyed that it made me crazy. :D It DID help me loosen up a little. :)

Oh Nod I bet you're just saying all that to entice me...and its working!! :D

I can't imagine u being married to a pack rat, Dianna. o_0

You don't really know everything about someone until you marry and live with them, Gabe. hahaha

More often than not, my room matches my mood.
If I'm in a good mood, I clean up, and keep clean.
But if I'm not, there is stuff all over the place.
I guess I haven't been in a good mood lately.
I really hope this habit doesn't carry through to when I'm married... but it probably will... I have a few things to change, maybe it's a good thing I don't have a "special someone" right now. :(

You have plenty of time to sort it out, BlueAngel :)

I have bipolor disorder and you can tell how my mentel health is by how my condo looks inside. Like BlueAngel, if I'm happy its clean, depressed its a mess. One manic epesode I had I was was cleaning like crazy I was anal about how the house looked , I was going out with this guy and I think I chased him away with my obsesiveness. Id go nuts if some one left some thing out or left a mess.
Right now Im comming out of the worst depression Ive ever had and Im doing spring cleaning. My place is looking a lot better. My body aches from cleaning because I spent most of my time laying on the sofa from Oct to Feb. I was so depressed I did not feel like doing much.

I never would've thought u were bipolar, Catwoman. You always seem to be very calm and collective here. I was listening to a doctor speak about depression and bipolar disorder just a couple weeks ago and he said lithium orotate (its not the same as the type of lithium used for mental patients) is like a wonderdrug and it is healthy for the body, no side effects. Plus it doesn't require a subscription. He's not selling it either. It wasn't an infomercial. There are many brands out there. Just thought I'd let you know about it. The doctor was speaking about depression and bipolar in today's society. God bless you, Catwoman.

Thank you for sharing that, Catwoman. Must be very difficult for you. I agree with Gabe in that your posts are always very thoughtful.

Praying for you.
