Evolution says nothing of how life began or where consciousness comes from.

If you believe God created the Universe and is the source of consciousness and we are created in His image, evolution poses no threat whatsoever to your beliefs.

I know there are lots and lots of Christians who believe in a literal interpretation of everything in the Bible. I get it. I'm not one of you, but I get it. I do not mean to offend, but I'm becoming rather troubled by the effect of those opinions when pushed on the general public.

Curiosity and an unquenchable desire to know things and understand them is a gift, in my opinion. God created absolutely everything, including that curiosity, not to mention the ability to receive answers. If science, like music, is a language by which God can speak to us, why are so many refusing to listen? Why are so many saying that science is of the devil and it's out to deceive and turn people from God?

The science isn't turning people from God...your insistence that science and religion are mortal and eternal enemies totally is, though.

You're telling people that they must choose between facts about the known universe and faith in a Creator. That is not your line to draw. That is not your standard to set. They are not mutually exclusive. You're just creating atheists and minimizing the intellectual honesty and reasoning behind Christianity... not to mention FACTS.

There is only one truth. It is absolute. Science will never make a discovery that negates truth. They will never 'prove' that God isn't real and that He didn't create everything. Chill out.

God and science don't have to fight. God created the laws of science. The debates of religion vs. science are entirely man-made. And quite frankly a headache...

We should be concentrating on love, not being right.

Evolution is not fact; it was never proven. Much of science is not fact it is theory and many times is philosophy. We did not make people atheist; they chose that theirself.

Theory- a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena: Einstein's theory of relativity. Synonyms: principle, law, doctrine.

Ridiculous on the face of it. But it's not even the point. The point is that science doesn't pose a threat to Christianity. Insisting that it does forces choices that don't even need to exist. You don't have to choose between knowing things and loving God.

If you say all scientists are atheists long enough, it will eventually be true. Congrats?

Did you help try and save them or keep them in the Church, or did you hold the door for them as they walked out and then scoffed at their silly monkey theories?

I witness to A LOT of atheists and about 90% of them are former Christians who used to be in the Church who just couldn't take the attacks on science and knowledge anymore. They see Christianity as still being the dark ages and Christians aren't doing much to change their minds. The only ones really getting out there to talk about science are so insanely liberal what they believe in is barely recognizable as Christianity.

Now I don't think we need to make compromises on our faith, but let's get serious and recognize that IT'S NOT EVEN A COMPROMISE. It is literally the equivalent of telling someone they can't be a Christian if they believe there are other solar systems in the universe.

Science buff here. I have no problem if somebody wants to believe the universe is 14.6 billion years old and that Genesis 1-11 are allegorical. I sort of lean toward a literal translation of Genesis since that's how the Jews originally understood it. But I can argue either way. In fact, I sort of designed my own rather convoluted mix of Old Earth and Young Earth creation which sort of preserves the literalness of Genesis, if anyone's interested in reading it. ^.^

Science does not contradict God. I view science as the study of how God operates the universe. Do you really think he would just make it haphazardly? Gotta put a planet here! Need that nebula! Now I put a black hole here! Better increase the supply of antimatter! Time for another planet! I don't think the universe would be stable in that manner.

Instead, God designed the universe to be wonderfully, beautifully orderly and structured. Concise laws of physics, stars coming together to make elegant galaxies, each unique from the other. Indeed, the way the universe shows this magnificent design points to a creator God.

I believe the Gap theory is one of the most popular ways of taking Genesis chapter 1 as being literal while holding to an old earth view.

I am a christian. I don't hate science.

I don't accept evolution as a whole because parts of the theory rely on bad science. I don't accept "creation science" as science. I will sit and wait with an open mind until science can present a viable theory. One that doesn't require tweaking every time it encounters a counter example. One that not only matches existing known facts, but reliably predicts future discoveries. Taken individually, many evolutionary concepts are actually good science, but unfortunately there simply is no way to make the entire evolutionary theory hold up at this time.

He's actually making the point of the thread by being a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

Thinking that science's purpose is to discredit God just drives the wedge deeper and says to unbelievers that we see science as an enemy. It's so ignorant and hateful.

science in itself does not try to disproove christianity, it can't, science is not a person

however, there are secientists, and many without education who read bits of science, who distort it, to try to use it against the bible

Of course they do...according to so many Christians, science is a lie and God is all the science one will ever need. The Bible is a science textbook or something.

But just because there are a handful of people like Richard Dawkins who full on HATE God and Christianity and try to use science to make their case does not mean it has any value at all. We're focusing more on the fact that we're being attacked than the fact that the attack is painfully empty and lacking substance. By flipping out about it, we've given the argument credibility. We act as though they have struck a nerve.

I suggest a book called Evidence for truth, it is aming science to support the bible :)

Yeah, the point of my post was targeted at exposing a different response to the realization that the idea that you must either choose science (and thus choose evolution) or faith(and thus creation/creation science) is a false dichotomy. I choose science and faith, but I do not choose evolution or creation science.

The dogma surrounding evolution has so blinded people, it's almost like a detective catching the wrong killer. If they have a suspect that they are so sure is the right one they just spend all of their time making sure he doesn't get away with it. But if nobody steps in and says "hey wait, did you look at these other guys", they will just continue down that track and possibly put an innocent man behind bars while the truth is out there, a killer free.

My problem with ''science'' is that much of it is pure fantasy with zero evidence to back it up. Every bit of so called evidence for the evolution theory has been proven to be fraudulant. A live penguin was once carbon dated to be 1000 yrs old. Science still teaches that the earth is millions of yrs old, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Science teaches that the earth is BILLIONS of years old, 4.54 billion to be exact, and I agree with them, because there is literally mounds of evidence to support this. Also it makes more sense than a magic man completing everything in 6,000 years -___-

actually, sicentific theories teah everything happened by chance

the bible says there is a methodology, a plan to it all
- Science prooves things are NOT random, they are too ordered for that

- thus, even sicence points to a creator
