BlueAngel it concerns me that it seems as if you already have made a decision, despite knowing that you can't reconcile Jesus Christ with any other religion, because you can't simply compromise The Truth because it wouldn't be Truth anymore.
I reccomend that you check the website Ugly provided, since it has a lot of information about the actual teachings of the LDS Church, and I assure you the reason why most Christians don't agree with the LDS Church is simply because their teaching differ from those of the Bible. Just because someone is sweet and a good person, and is zealous for his faith doesn't mean he has the truth.
Paul was a very zealous pharisee too, remember?
I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. Galatians 1:14
What's funny is that before that verse he was speaking about people causing confusion with a different gospel
(Gal 1:6-8). I won't judge the guy you are talking about, he may as well be very nice and sweet
, but I can tell you that what the LDS Church is not the same gospel our JesusChrist or his apostles preached.
You said you are afraid of knowing God's answer, why is that? don't you think that feeling of confusion may as well be God telling you something?
I remember talking to a Mormon friend of my mom once, we talked for over 2 o 3 hours about religion, and I remember asking her about the differences I found on websites and books, and she kept on saying that it was all misunderstood.
When I mentioned the books they use : The Book of Mormon, the Covenants & Doctrines and The Pearl of Great Price ( all 3 of them written by Joseph Smith), she denied the existence of the latter two, which was rather confusing. But I looked into Mormon websites and I noticed something....they are not that mentioned, and even new converts ignore their existence, but they are part of the Mormon Faith and Joseph Smith( the ''Prophet'') actually wrote those books:
Book of Mormon | LDS.org <------LDS official website
I won't even tell you some of the stuff those books say, since you mentioned that you already did some research, and if you did, that concerns me even more because those teachings simply cannot be reconciled with who our God is.
I suggest that you time a time for yourself to read the Bible, pray, and seek God. Root yourself in the Truth, and God will bring everything to light. Jesus commanded us to love one another, but he also said that the loving the world shouldn't be above loving Him. God cannot be found where lies are found, no matter how good or how true the lies may seem.
With that said, I really hope you aren't being led astray, my intentions are not to demonize your friend or Mormons in general, but sometimes love involves correction. God bless you
