I've come to him with this too! He looked at it, and pointed out everything that was wrong. He told me, again that you have to dig really deep to find something that's actually true about the Mormons, because there are so many lies from people who haven't even seen what Mormons are like. They say they know it to be true, but they don't!
They use the Book of Mormon, second only to the Bible, as a mater of fact, I haven't seen this guy use the book of Mormon once... Not even when he's trying to prove to me that all of this junk on the internet is wrong.
He hasn't tried pushing me to read the book, I haven't asked, he hasn't even mentioned it. Every time I bring it up, he says "I'm not trying to prove the book to you, I don't need the stinkin' book to show you".
All this stuff about Joseph Smith was made by people who hated him, and would make up stories about him. The thing with the plates, was not that he would make up different ways he got them, but he'd hide them, so people wouldn't abuse them. The different stories, came from the different times he'd bring them out to translate them.
Other people did see the plates, there were at least eight others who saw them, and gave a written report on them, with their signatures.
So, if I truly believed that I should be Mormon... What would you do?
BlueAngel it concerns me that it seems as if you already have made a decision, despite knowing that you can't reconcile Jesus Christ with any other religion, because you can't simply compromise The Truth because it wouldn't be Truth anymore.
I reccomend that you check the website Ugly provided, since it has a lot of information about the actual teachings of the LDS Church, and I assure you the reason why most Christians don't agree with the LDS Church is simply because their teaching differ from those of the Bible. Just because someone is sweet and a good person, and is zealous for his faith doesn't mean he has the truth.
Paul was a very zealous pharisee too, remember?
I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. Galatians 1:14
What's funny is that before that verse he was speaking about people causing confusion with a different gospel (Gal 1:6-8). I won't judge the guy you are talking about, he may as well be very nice and sweet, but I can tell you that what the LDS Church is not the same gospel our JesusChrist or his apostles preached.
You said you are afraid of knowing God's answer, why is that? don't you think that feeling of confusion may as well be God telling you something?
I remember talking to a Mormon friend of my mom once, we talked for over 2 o 3 hours about religion, and I remember asking her about the differences I found on websites and books, and she kept on saying that it was all misunderstood.
When I mentioned the books they use : The Book of Mormon, the Covenants & Doctrines and The Pearl of Great Price ( all 3 of them written by Joseph Smith), she denied the existence of the latter two, which was rather confusing. But I looked into Mormon websites and I noticed something....they are not that mentioned, and even new converts ignore their existence, but they are part of the Mormon Faith and Joseph Smith( the ''Prophet'') actually wrote those books:
Book of Mormon | LDS.org <------LDS official website
I won't even tell you some of the stuff those books say, since you mentioned that you already did some research, and if you did, that concerns me even more because those teachings simply cannot be reconciled with who our God is.
I suggest that you time a time for yourself to read the Bible, pray, and seek God. Root yourself in the Truth, and God will bring everything to light. Jesus commanded us to love one another, but he also said that the loving the world shouldn't be above loving Him. God cannot be found where lies are found, no matter how good or how true the lies may seem.
With that said, I really hope you aren't being led astray, my intentions are not to demonize your friend or Mormons in general, but sometimes love involves correction. God bless you![]()
I know I have given this piece of advice many times, but now would be the time for you to stop seeing anyone.
Your confusion, Miss Angel, indicates that you are not yet solidified in your personal beliefs. Which is fine! You're 16, and should be open minded; though not so open minded that you let your brains fall out and have your heart jump from your chest.
Anecdotally, I was pursued by a Jehovah's Witness who tried to evangelize me. She was a nice lady who would do anything for me. This made the cult influence all the more difficult to handle. Her tactics were, incidentally, similar to those your prospect used. Here is the thing: when you are a heretic or member of a cult, the information you deal with is far more fluidic. As orthodox (lowercase o) Christians, we are at a disadvantage in the fact that we are not as free to "rationalize" as they are. They will have clarifications and explanations for everything you bring forward to the table, but to the trai\ned eye they are but one thing: distortions of their own doctrine.
I'll never forget when Glenn Beck, a Mormon, complained about Mike Huckabee's saying that in Mormonism Satan is the brother of Jesus. Mike was called "mullah" Huckabee in a derogatory fashion. Beck played the victim card with reckless abandon. Now, to the non-discerning individual the Mormon would seem to be the authority on what Mormon's do and do not believe, but Beck turned out either to be wrong or deceptive on that point of doctrine.
Suffice to say, Mormons are not Christians and it is clear by their founding that they cannot be, but they will use every justification to look like us in order to rope us in.
Be wise, spend some time away. Use this experience to reach him and others like him.
I have known a mormon lady for 12 years and we have discussed these things many times. She is only now beginning to understand. Very well said, kayem.
No offense, but this is very wrong... People make covenants in the pre-mortality, to find each other and marry on earth. One of my youth leaders and her husband, knew they were 'meant for each other' when she was younger than me. They just waited until she was 18 to get married... There is a such thing as being intended for each other.
Another thing, confusion stems from the conflict between God spirit, and the natural man. Natural man is an enemy to God, and if the natural man is avoiding the truth, God's going to try prodding it.
Kay, I'm kinda continuing this thread from another one, because I don't want to crowd the other one...
So,I met a Mormon dude, and he is perfect in every way, and I'm sure he is meant for me... But I won't leave my religion, and he won't leave his... What happens then? Would I have to leave the one God intended for me?
What happens if this dude is right, and God tells me to join this religion that so many are saying is a "cult"... what becomes of the friends that believe it's a cult, would they leave me alone because they don't understand?
So ultimately, if God tells me that it's right, I lose all the friends who think Mormonism is wrong.... I don't want that. I treasure all of my friends.
There are friends I have here, that think that Mormonism is from the devil. There are people all over the world who think that. There's so much stuff dissing Mormonism, it's hard for this guy to find any facts for me to go off of. He loves me, and I adore him, but this has been a problem for me, because I'm scared that if God tells me it's right for me to become a Mormon, my friends will think I've sold myself to the devil.
Honestly, I'm scared of Gods answer.
The guy keeps telling me that if my friends leave me just because of my religion, then they never were really my friends... But I don't want to lose any of them.
Whenever I get a friend, I make a place in my heart for them, and never want to let them out...
This is causing some distress, because I love God, and I want to ask him what's right, and I love this guy, and want to be with him, but I love my friends, and don't want to lose them...
12 years of discussing the same thing...you may have thought that someone would take shorter time to realize...sadly sometimes it takes a life to discover the truth...
Ok... so I finally got over myself, and prayed about it.
I was told no, so I called the guy, so he could come and talk to me. I told him how I felt, and he told me that he'd been doing some praying of his own.
So, we're both of the mind that Mormonism is terribly wrong, and he's being baptized this weekend...
