I dont think I believe it either....to me this would imply that all one has to to is profess Christ and then can live like a heathen and expect God's grace to cover it

I believe that if we repent of our sin, we have nothing to be saved from, and if we don’t repent of our sin, the Lord will chastise us as harshly as possible to influence us to do so.

i dont believe in OSAS either... i believe that yes, we are saved by grace through faith, however our faith- true, genuine faith- in Christ keeps us saved.

those who fall away from sin or false doctrine forfeit what have been given to them... not because they didn't do enough works, or deeds.. but because they turned back to the world, or were led astray by the father of lies

A truly saved person will not fall away back into the world, and they cetainly can't be influenced by the father of lies. Jesus said, "all that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I WILL NEVER CAST OUT."
That is the hope the Christian has, our Lord will never leave or forsake us, even if we are unfaithful. He is faithful and cannot deny Himself. If anyone thinks their salvation depends on remaining faithful to God, they may as well give their Bible away and give up. We don't have the power to reamin faithful or do good for one minute without the Spirit's help. Jesus said, "without Me you can do nothing." Believe that people, otherwise you will become puffed up with your "ability" to keep yourself saved.
Some people think too highly of themselves, and too lowly of God.
God bless.

The blind are those living in darkness. They have eyes but they can't see and they have ears but they can't hear (Ezekiel 12:2). Once saved, our eyes are opened to the truth and we no longer walk in darkness. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30). It's not possible for a person to become saved and then deny their belief in God. This suggests they never were saved to begin with, because once your eyes are opened you know the truth and none can take this truth away from you. It's supernatural and from God. People sometimes backslide but it's only temporary and God knows they will return (prodigal son). Backsliding happens when a person is low in faith, did not grow as a Christian, they have pressures in the world so end up living in the flesh and leaving the HS in them as a quiet resident, for example. The HS sits there quietly but never leaves them.

Christ did not say we're saved until our next sin. He cleansed us of all sins, past present and future. (It was through his ONE perfect sacrifice that He did this). Some dispute OSAS by saying that this can't possibly be true as it would mean a person could live a sinful life, but this is not the case because once a person is genuinely saved they change and no longer desire to sin. We're not perfect, but during those times we might sin we feel incredibly bad about it, whereas most of the unbelieving world have not had this conviction of sin, so they continue living their lives in sin.

Salvation produces fruits (works) prepared for us in advance. Once saved we are given these works by the Holy Spirit, and we no longer desire to sin, but rather to walk in the Spirit. The works come after salvation, they don't cause salvation.

Grace is the gift and faith is the channel through which we receive it. Nothing else.

Suggesting one can lose their salvation is to suggest they earnt it in the first place, which we can't do. Nothing can replace His one perfect sacrifice on the cross for those that would believe in Him.

God wants us to become more like His Son, living by His example. Christ was crucified on the cross and likewise we are to take up our cross and follow Him (die to yourself/surrender).

When we walk more in the Spirit our light shines brighter and rather than approach others with the Gospel they won't be able to help but be drawn to us, because of He who dwells in us.

Matthew 5:16: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (again "works" of the HS after we are saved)

Excellent response. But you'd be surprised how many here do think that they have the last say in whether they're saved or unsaved.
I'm so glad to see some here, like yourself, who give all glory to God, and don't trust in themselves for anything pertaining to their salvation.
God bless, my friend. Keep up the good fight.

This is the way I see it:

The bible teaches us that we are not saved by grace alone but rather, by grace through faith and that faith is indeed a gift from God. In other words, a measure of faith is given to each believer upon salvation. However, scripture clearly teaches that our faith is small in the beginning but over time, as we experience the love of God for ourselves and His heart toward others our knowledge of Him grows. As our knowledge of His character grows, our faith in Him also grows. This is what is commonly referred to as spiritual maturity.

On the flip side of the equation, the bible also teaches that your faith can also whither. I can recall numerous cases throughout the scriptures where the disciples would see Jesus perform phenominal miracles, even to the point of controlling the weather, yet when it would come time for Jesus to perform another miracle, not only did some struggle to believe but they even doubted Jesus to the point that they forsook Him when He was finally arrested.

The simple truth is that our faith, just like a relationship, is something that we must nurture and grow in. God Himself, is indeed faithful. He will be their for you whenever you are willing to humble yourself and reach out to Him. However, just as you can lead a camel to water, you can can not force it to drink.

As believers, our role in salvation is that we continue to grow in the faith. I believe that their is adequate evidence in the bible to prove, in conjunction with my own personal experiences to believe when it comes to faith, if you are not moving forward and making progress then will begin to regress and fall back. There is no standing still.
Growing in faith is not nor has ever been optional. Jesus clearly teaches that it is better for one to be either hot or cold, that He is very dissatisfied with the those who are luke warm or 'cool'.

To sum things up, our relationship with God is no different than our relationships with people. If our relationship is not growing and we are not coming together with God - abiding in his presence and, in the process, conforming to His image - then we will drift away from God and begin to pursue worldly desires, focusing both our attention and affections on other lovers. In beginning of the book of Revelation, in his messages to the seven Churches, Jesus reiterates time and time again the importance of regarding God as our first love above anything and all else. In my person opinion, real saving faith is not a state of mind where one can simply will themselves into right relationship to God. To me, saving faith is a condition of heart. Either God is sitting upon the throne of your heart or He is not and no amount of spiritual dead religious doctrine or confessions can change that.

Either you love God or you don't. Jesus Himself taught that a heart can not have two masters for whatever it is in this world that you treasure, there your heart shall be also. So, in ending, I have but one thing to ask you: just who or what rules in the throne room which is your heart? If it's not Jesus, then your soul could very well be jeopardy.

Well, we do have the security of being saved it's just not us that controls keeping or losing it, lol. Anyhow, just my thoughts, as have been shared also by others in the same camp ;)

Btw, my cat heard the mention of crickets and chirping :)

It almost sounds like a cop-out to people, Katyfollows, but it is Truth....

The Lord leads.

Crossfyre said it too, 'You either love God or you don't '

And, YES!, IF you have heartstrungingly (like that word?) repented and just done things that God obediently wants you to do (NOT works) in the life He has planned for you , sure, you fail, but the Spirit lets you know, it's called 'conviction,' and you DON'T stay that sordid path (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God)

Do that and....

you are not going anywhere but with Him when you die from this life.

Your words were powerful, milady, God bless all your work leading others to the saving power of Him wherever you go :)

And, yes, your cat heard the sound of music , symphonic, like thickets of wheat whistling in a quiet wind, enhanced with the power of 'crick-uh-crick-uh-crick-uh-crick-uh-crick-uh.....' :)

There are 3 steps to salvation not just one. Justification, Sanctification and glorification, as this text shows.
Romans 5:10
(10) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Yes, that's true. It's sad that so many put the repentance and sanctification first, as a means to become saved, instead of realizing that we are saved first and then repentance and sanctification follow. It clearly says, in the verse you quoted, that we were saved while still enemies of God. God must take the first step or we would not even have the desire to repent. We would want nothing at all to do with God if He doesn't first regenerate us. And that does not come from ourselves.

WELL OFM IFY OU TAKE A RIDE QUICKLY TO YOUR NEAREST PRISON YOU WILL QUICKLY FIND OUT HOW MANY AT ONE TIME RAISED A HAND TO ACCEPT THE LORD, AND ARE NOW HANDCUFFED BEHIND BARS. THIS IS THE RELIGIOUS MISCONCEPTION THAT TAKES ONE AWAY INTO THE WORLD LIKE A CURRENT , FROM TRULY HAVING A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD. WHEN WE DON'T WE DON'T GROW SPIRITUALLY, AND THE SPIRIT SOON AND QUICKLY BECOMES WEAK UNTO ALL TEMPTATIONS. YOU WOULD BE SURPRIZED HOW MUCH OF THE PRISONERS WILL TELL YOU THEY SAVED. A VERY UNPLEASANT SCENERIO OF A CRIMINAL WHO SHOWED HIS WEAPON THAT KILLED MANY, OF THE VIRGIN MARY ON IT AS AN EMBLEM OR JESUS ON IT, ONLY TO USE IT TO DESTROY LIVES,???????????
IT'S NOT MUCH DIFFERENT THAN HOLDING A BIBLE IN YOUR HANDS AND DOING YOUR OWN THING. THE WORLD THE FLESH AND THE DEVIL IN THE OTHER HAND.

Th Bible is very clear.

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

1Co 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
1Co 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
1Co 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Castaway - adokimos
From G1 (as a negative particle) and G1384; unapproved, that is, rejected; by implication worthless (literally or morally): - castaway, rejected, reprobate.

Rom 11:18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
Rom 11:19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
Rom 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
2Pe 1:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

2Pe 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
2Pe 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

2Pe_3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Heb 6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
Heb 6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
Heb 6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
Heb 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
Heb 6:11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
Heb 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Eze 18:26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

Jas_5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Joh 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

Abide - menō
A primary verb; to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy): - abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), X thine own.

Where does the godly sorrow come from??? If someone has godly sorrow for thier sins, it means that God has saved that person and put that sorrow for sin within their heart. IT DOES NOT COME FROM THEMSELVES. Why you can't understsand that is beyond me.
Give ALL GLORY TO GOD FOR YOUR SALVATION. Be like the publican and humble yourself. Your only contribution to your salvation is being a sinner. We must pray like the publican, "God be merciful to me, a sinner."
If you still want to rely on "your" godly sorrow, or "your" repentance, be my guest. But you will not stand before God boasting of your good works.
God bless.
