Answer - Only one, but the light bulb has to "want" to be changed first.

Question - Should a Calvinist change an Arminian's light-bulb?
Answer - There's no need to, because Arminians haven't noticed how dark it really is.

Calvinists don't change light bulbs, only God can change light bulbs. We believe in monergistic light-bulb changing, so God gets all the glory.

Question - How do you confuse a Calvinist seminary student?
Answer - Give him a multiple-choice exam.

Question - What do you call an Arminian killer whale?
Answer - Free Willy.

Are Arminians predestined to believe in free-will, and does anyone choose to be a Calvinist?

I just wanted to thank you, hhhlga89, because although I was familiar with the tenets of Calvinism and Arminianism, I had never heard of Molinism before this thread.

Always happy to learn new things! And reluctant to pigeonhole myself. Is that cowardice? lol
I do agree these matters probably will not be fully understood this side of heaven--can't wait!

i believe in total depravity and unconditional election...

i do not believe in limited atonement or irresistible grace...

i don't accept perseverance of the saints in the same way calvinists do...promises of eternal security should be used to reassure repentant christians...but the unrepentant need to be warned about the danger of falling away...

Interesting, I have heard people say if you believe in unconditional election it wouldn't make much sense to believe in unlimited atonement. "If God is choosing to save people, it would make sense that he would only let Christ die for those people." is what they say..

Also..If you believe in resistible grace, then how can he unconditionally elect someone? What if the person he unconditionally elected resisted His resistible grace??

i am not saying we should strive to be illogical...i am saying we should strive to be scriptural and sometimes that will result in doctrines that seem illogical...which we should -expect- since God is beyond our human logic...

we cannot deny any clear teaching of scripture...even if it seems illogical...

the belief that i called 'two and a half point arminicalvinism' is the only one that manages to incorporate everything scripture has to say on the matter...it does that at the expense of logic...but i would rather be scriptural than logical and i expect that not everything God does will fit into my logic...

I am a first century Christian. The Bible is my guide.

Calvin Arminius, Luther, etc., tried to turn the Church onto the right track. Unfortunately their followers saw them as the Protestant version of eternal popes and instead of continuing the good work they started, fought each other and the Catholics. Opportunities lost.

I concentrate on scripture and do my best to see scripture from God's point of view, never from any man's point of view. I have a hard enough time trying to clear out my own eyes.

the last time i was a candidate for the position of pastor in a congregational church was about 9 years ago. just before i came to china. i had preached there once and then been invited to preach again every sunday for two months. then, there was a dinner where the congregation could meet me more closely and ask questions. before the dinner the chairman of the search committee asked if i would fill the pulpit until the annual meeting. after the meeting things went well until one woman got up and asked:" are you a calvinist?" I said no, and told a story of a classmate at ashland seminary. he was a brethren in christ pastor and he was responding to the comments of a strict "double predestination calvinist" : "if i believed that god created humanity with the foreknowledge that 99.99999 however many nine percent of them, including children and babies were destined to eternal torture i would have to choose to go to hell to comfort them." i was not called to that church and i wasnt asked to fill the pulpit until the annual meeting. i told the story to a good friend and his response was: god was with you then ron, can you imagine what life would be like for any pastor in a church where that one woman could actually overrule the search committee?
