it is clear from scripture that we should be in one accord ( and that ain't a Honda Accord either ) but isn't the way things are going even in the Church, prophecised in the scriptures itself? itchy ears, following false doctrines, turning from the truth, even now when you show someone clear in the scriptures that God said not do this, we are told that that don't apply to today's time, we got active homosexuals being placed as pastors of christians churches, we got women placed as pastors in churches and are told it has to be that way cause a man won't do the job, so if we can't find a sober man to pastor a church do we go against the Word of God and Go get a drunk to pastor a church or do we wait on the Lord to place a pastor in our church? Look at the baby killer that just got killed in a church, He was a member of that church ( if we can call it a church ) but yet here is a person claiming to be a christian, church member, singing with his wife in the Choir, and takes pride in the fact that he has killed over 60,000 babies through abortion. this is where we have taken our churches, since we stop preaching hell and brimstone messages, which we are told we can't reach people like that no more, and started preaching our God is a God of love, who would never send anyone to hell. they are even Christians Churches that preach that Jesus is not the only way to heaven, that there are many ways into heaven, we have taken the fear of God completely out of the Churches. we call them Burger King Churches at our church just pull up have it your way and go your on way, there is no need to follow Jesus any more, His word is out dated, and just doesn't apply to the Church of today. so do what feels good, we can justify it in the end. I just have sent 20 letters out to churches in this area asking the pastors to join in a pastor's bible study. not to prove who is right or who is wrong but in hopes of understanding each other's doctrines, maybe seeing from scriptures where other pastors are coming from and in hopes of praying for one another instead of cursing one another, 3 letters were returned not deliverable as address so out of 17 letters I had 2 pastors to say they was real interested, for God had just been laying it on their hearts about us being one body and that there should be no schism in the Body, so God said if two or more are gathered in my Name I will be there, so off we go with pastors studying the Word of God. will we change anything? who knows, but we can't give up and let people keep sliding into hell without warning them.

Jude 1:17But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;Jude 1:18How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.Jude 1:19These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.Jude 1:20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,Jude 1:21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.Jude 1:22And of some have compassion, making a difference:Jude 1:23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.Jude 1:24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,Jude 1:25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.

i disagree with all of you on everything
Can you put a funny quote under your avatar or have your signature say "Thanks for letting me in... finally." ?? I know..I know.. go get my own avatar with a punchline.

Feel free to use it of you like that one or if you have another funny one. Course, one could change it out constantly just to keep things fresh.

But in regards to the topic of this thread, I would think the signature with your avatar would be kind of like a message.... that we are to be ambassaders of Christ reconciling man to God as well as keeping the faith so as to not move away from that which we just got out of the rain for...a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ..

We should be about God's idea of unity not man's idea......man says we should all just get along and if you believe such and such it's ok....so long as we don't rock each other's boat.....I don't believe God has the same definition ;)
No question about that. So, what do you believe God's definition to be? In HIS Grace.

Give an example of sowing discord among the brethren so that people can understand what you are driving at. Then give an example of unity (being of one accord) and the application of that unity in the body of Christ. There are several places in the book of Acts that demonstrates, 'being of one accord'.
Let's see. I see you are a senior member, so I suppose from that you have been around a while, and read a number of the threads and related comments to those threads - like the one on Bible Translations - creation and evolution - et al. What other examples does anyone need? As far as examples for unity, why don't we just use Scripture to help us out here? We can look at one which I already mentioned - Philippians 2:14-16 and then we can add 1Corinthians 3:1-4. I hope this helps you out.

Don't be so defensive and being a senior member doesn't mean anything except for the number of posts made. Many people do not know or understand what it means to sow discord among the brethren. Sowing discord is usually done in private and with no restraints. It is the practice of accusing, slandering or maligning your brother by exposing some kind of personal sin, fault or decision made, that will cause strife and contention involving issues of faith and doctrine and their practice. This is done privately with the brethren to gain acceptance from or to infect others with some form of evil that will culminate into a conspiracy later on. That is the ultimate purpose for sowing discord among the brethren and God hates it because it destroys unity and oneness in the body of Christ.

In Phil 2:14, murmurings and disputings are both private and/or secret. Murmurings is goggusmos, that means a secret debate or deliberation not open to all. Disputings is dialogismos, that has to do with one that dispute and deliberates with himself through inward reasonings of doubt and hesitation. Both terms have to do with inward motives and intentions of the heart.

In 1Cor 3:1-4, you have an issue of believers that were carnal (fleshly) and had a preference in leadership that came through personality rapport that even included Christ (1Cor 1:12), which they were to know no man after the flesh, not even Christ (2Cor 5:16).

Well, gee, it looks like we can just tear our brothers and sisters in Christ to shreds in public and be in perfect line with the Scriptures? Hmmmmmmmmm. Quoting Greek to a professor of Greek. Good strategy.

SoulSearch,

Did you forget to take your medication or something? If someone wants to sow discord to my face, then I have a perfect opportunity to tell them I don't want to hear it. I can't speak for others but I would hope they would do the same. If thy do it privately in secret with others, there is not much you can do about that until it comes around to you. If discord is sown on a public forum, such as this, then we have free course to nail that sucker and give him a piece of our mind and tell them to shut up or else (just kidding). What should happen on an open forum, is how it is handled here with warnings and if it continues, then they are banned. I don't support any believer attacking any child of God that has been raised up by grace to preach and teach the word of God and the gospel of grace. Most of the time people speak up for themselves on this forum and the moderators do a good job not letting things get out of hand. God knows I speak the truth.

The only person on this thread that I see tearing our brothers and sisters in Christ to shreds and causing discord is you! It all comes back to the old speck and log comment.....and I would question how effective it is to speak about causing discord among the bretheren by doing exactly that. To me, you would be much more effective in going about your business and sowing seeds of good will through your conduct and SHOWING others what being of one accord looks like rather than starting sarcastic threads and then attacking everyone who replies to you.

I'm also curious as to why you are so stuck on the bible translations thread....this is the second time I have read where you have used that thread as an example....perhaps there is some unforgiveness there you need to address, especially considering the people who had the disagreement on there have since forgiven eachother and moved on. Seems like a redundant point to me!

You are UNFORTUNATELY all too typical. It's no wonder the world at large has such disdain for professing believers - I suppose that's what you are. Jude says it like this: "These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words..." - verse 16. Quit pretending to someone you're not.

You and I were talking turkey, so don't be so reactionary. Before you get too carried away, how would you treat or deal with anyone that would sow discord among the brethren? You have the floor. Tell us what sowing discord is all about. You probably have some valuable understanding and experience. Some believers have strong convictions that are a result of what they have been taught and experienced in life. They may say things that appear to be discord to you, but they are communicating what they know with the capacity they have. Some have been sarcastic and quick to say things that later they regret, but they truely love God and hate to see people be decieved from their point of truth. You have to discern that about the individual and if you do not, then you will have a problem with them.

This one is easy! The spiritual definition of a body is a group of members (Matthew 5:29,30 - 1 Corinthians 12:12-27). If the body is the dwelling place for the spirit, than the house is the dwelling place for the body (Matthew 12:22-30)! The body of the "believer(s)" in God, must be kept pure, clean, Holy, & in harmony with the self (yourself, myself, himself, herself, themselves, ourselves - ALL THY NEIGHBORS)!!!
