Letting the "Power of the Ancient Texts Come Through"

"The Clear Word lets the power of ancient texts come through today. As the meaning of Scripture becomes more transparent, you see more of God's grace. His love shines through even in difficult Old Testament passages."1

Although Adventism lagged behind Mormonism, the Watchtower, and Christian Science in the publication of their version of the Bible, they have made up for lost time by outperforming these other organizations with numerous printings and changes. Since its first printing in 1994, The Clear Word Bible has been reworked into no less than seven unique versions of the Scriptures.

The seven versions are: The Clear Word Bible, ©1994,2 The Clear Word, ©1994,3 The Clear Word, ©2003,4 The Clear Word, ©2004 (Pocket edition),5 The Easy English Clear Word, ©2005,6 The Clear Word for Kids, ©2005,7 and Savior (The Clear Word version of the gospels, combined into one narrative), © 2008.8 The Clear Word Bible, original edition, has never been recalled or rejected by the Seventh-day Adventist organization. Although some changes have occurred to the text, the church has not publicly called for the original to be removed from circulation. Because the changes to the text in many cases are not directly doctrinal, recalling the early editions would not change the status of this work.

After receiving criticism for the title, the publisher removed the word "Bible" from the original The Clear Word Bible, and the words "An Expanded Paraphrase" were added to subsequent printings. These subsequent versions are not just reprintings with modifications to the title. They are different versions containing numerous changes to content throughout the books. Most modern publishers will be honest with their readers, indicating changes to content or revision of materials when books are reprinted. The Review and Herald Publishing Association, however, provides no statement to this effect, leaving the reader to believe that he/she has the same document in hand with only modifications to the title. In the publishing world, this lack of disclosure is tantamount to lying.

What is truly shocking, however, are not the changes, but the problematic passages that have remained. Although the back cover of The Clear Word indicates that the author/paraphraser is allowing "the power of the ancient texts [to] come through", he does not indicate that the texts are coming through a very strong Adventist theological lens, replete with quotes and paraphrases from the writings of Ellen G. White.

Clear Word Exposed
I never use the clear word I always use the KJV. People do not use all the same version, people use different versions.

"The enemies of God's law, from the ministers down to the least among them, have a new conception of truth and duty. Too late they see that the Sabbath of the fourth commandment is the seal of the living God." (Great Controversy, p.640).

The Great Controversy: Chapter 40 God's People Delivered -- by Ellen G. White

Ephesians 1 3 Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who did bless us in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 according as He did choose us in him before the foundation of the world, for our being holy and unblemished before Him, in love, 5 having foreordained us to the adoption of sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He did make us accepted in the beloved, 7 in whom we have the redemption through his blood, the remission of the trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8 in which He did abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the secret of His will, according to His good pleasure, that He purposed in Himself, 10 in regard to the dispensation of the fulness of the times, to bring into one the whole in the Christ, both the things in the heavens, and the things upon the earth -- in him; 11 in whom also we did obtain an inheritance, being foreordained according to the purpose of Him who the all things is working according to the counsel of His will, 12 for our being to the praise of His glory, even those who did first hope in the Christ, 13 in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth -- the good news of your salvation -- in whom also having believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of the promise, 14 which is an earnest of our inheritance, to the redemption of the acquired possession, to the praise of His glory.

Can I ask some honest questions Laodicea?

Do Seventh Day Adventist believe that the writings of Ellen White were inspired?

Do Seventh Day Adventist believe Sunday worship is the mark of the beast?

Do Seventh Day Adventist believe that Michael the archangel was Jesus?

I'm just trying to learn more about what you guys believe...

I like honest questions but not critical. Yes Ellen White was inspired But doctrine is based on the Bible. If Ellen White says something contrary to the Bible she would not be a prophet.

Read Revelation 13 & 14 and notice how many times worship is mentioned. No one has the mark of the beast yet people will be given a choice to worship God or the beast.
Revelation 14:7
(7) Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Exodus 20:11
(11) For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Jesus is God He is not a created being, Michael means one who is like God. Archangel means chief of the angels.

First of all, thanks for the answers. Now I'm just making an honest observation here....didnt Ellen White have a "vision" and stated that some people at a conference of believers in 1856 would be alive and remain upon the earth and be translated at the return of Jesus?

"I was shown the company present at the Conference. Said the angel: 'Some food for worms, some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus.'" Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 131

That obviously didn't happen...

Deu 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

I am SDA although I was not born a SDA.
I think the person starting this thread is trying to escape his own doctrinal errors by trying to point out others.
i started this thread.
which errors am i trying to escape, Laodicea?
i asked you to address the sabbath, but you pointed to 'other threads'.
feel free to go into what i have wrong. i may very well be, in many areas - but SDA is not one of them.
i'm willing to go through all the SDA teachings with you, point by point.

SDA doctrine is not based on Ellen White it is based on the Bible. While Ellen White is a prophet doctrine is not based on what she says.
that's not true.

Since I have been on CC I have never quoted EGW because doctrine is based on the Bible.
SDAs rarely quote Ellen White. that would make the foundation known to all.
the Bible does not say the seal of the living God is the 4th Commandment.

so? the organization has been caught in cover-ups repeatedly in their additions to scripture, and in other published materials.

why aren't you denouncing this?

Since we have someone of the SDA church maybe it is best to ask him what the actual beliefs are instead of accusing him of a false doctrine.
Laodicea is one of the most intelligent, and respectable men on this forum from what I have seen. I do not agree with the SDA teachings, but I also do not know enough about their belief to accuse them of certain things.
What better way to know of the teachings of the SDA church than to ask someone who is a member, and not an internet website.

I am Church of Christ, and I can pull up all types of info on my church. Alot of what I have read is wrong that people publish about us. I am assuming the same goes for every other faith out there. If you want to find something negative about a belief(even your own) then you will.

is "sunday worship" the mark of the beast?

is 'observing the 4th on saturday' ('sabbath') a sign that someone is among the people of God?

would you describe how SDA keep the 4th commandment, please?

be clear - if she was inspired (a word reserved for the prophets and apostles and writers of the Bible), she was a prophet. SDA refers to her as such.

she can be shown to say much contrary to the Bible, and is therefore a false prophet.

therefore, SDA has based their theology on the false doctrine of a false prophet.

excuse me young lady.
you are assuming i have an irrational, uninformed vendetta against SDA (or someone on this forum).
in that you are mistaken.

SDA apologists are notorious for evading 'critical' examination of the foundation of their beliefs, and sounding orthodox in their doctrine, until the hard questions come out.

if the poster here is honest, he will admit that what i have posted is primarily from SDA sources, and that the other posts are factual. he might not like having it publicized, but as i mentioned, i have friends who are still recovering from the harm done to them in the SDA system and am familiar enough with it to challenge anyone defending it.

SDA was formed as an ecstatic date-setting cult, famously out of the Millerites, and remains a cult, though cloaked more in orthodoxy than previously. SDA does not reform and conform to orthodoxy (as for example the Church of God has done in varying stages and degrees) by repenting and publically purging their errors. they merely cover-up.

oh my dear, personally attacking? please show me where.

he has no intention of changing his religion. if he does, it will be God's doing.

i have a right to discuss false prophets and their organizations. if you feel a need to defend SDA, or someone defending SDA that's your decision.

now the "inspired" prophesies of infallible Ellen White....

Do as you wish. I just always though the bible taught about love and understanding.

As far as him responding to you, it may be a while. He isn't ignoring you. He is offline.

ok i guess i was mistaken... i am guessing that is the fundamentalist group. the average 7th day adventists dont seem to think that way... at least the ones i know do not.
Yeah most 7DAs I've met take what Ellen white taught with a grain of salt. Basically they're average protestants that worship on Saturday instead of Sunday.

i didn't think he was ignoring me.
he needn't respond.

the Bible does teach love and understanding.
do you know any former adventists who have had their faith damaged? i do.
i love them and understand them.
i love those i know still in it. and i understand why they are still in it.

if teaching an entire denomination of millions that christians who worship on sunday belong to satan and have taken the mark of the beast is loving, well, ok.

if writing new "bibles" and incorporating false doctrine into it is acceptable for some, it's not for me. but i understand the examination of it isn't welcome here. so that's enough then.

i didn't realize false prophets and their pernicious doctrines were taboo here.
now i do.

Why are you so defensive because someone doesn't agree with how you are dealing with this? I I am not a threat to you, and I am certainly not going to argue with you. I do not agree with the SDA teachings. If I did I would worship with them, but I don't. I personally don't think harsh words, and an agressive attitude is the best way to "help" someone's faith.

I have also learned that you cannot assist someone on the "right path" unless they are willing to listen. So, are you here just to tell those who are SDA they are wrong, or do you really want to help them and lead them on the right path?
If your aggressive method has helped others in the past then by all means carry on sir. I am not meaning to disrespect you at all, but I as well have been told I believe a "false doctrine" by members here only to find out they had no clue what I actually believed. It's hurtful that fellow Christians are that judgmental.when they are so against something they know nothing about. I am not saying you aren't properly educated in the teachings in the SDA church. I just don't want to see others fall further away because people who want nothing more than to bash others beliefs without helping them. If that isn't what you are doing that I apologize. It just looked a little like you were.

my primary interest is in keeping people away from considering SDA as an option.

if SDAs take a second look at what they're taught, that's great. all glory to God.
i have posted a resource for those who are already considering leaving (and the list is growing):

here it is again, though there are many:

regarding Jesus being the Archangel Michael. Why would the author of Revelations call Jesus "Jesus Christ" 7 times "Jesus" 6 times "Christ" 4 times "Lord Jesus" once and "Lord Jesus Christ" once and then suddenly call the Lord Jesus by the name of Michael? as in Revelations 12:7

7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
